>> stay with us for "good >> stay with us for "good mornin captioned by closed captioning services, inc. good morning from the land of the giants. i'm eric thomas. and i'm kristen sze right now crews are putting finishing touches on today's parade honoring the giants. we gave you a quick live picture. we are going to have live team coverage this morning of the celebration. >> we start with mike nicco and the parade-day forecast. good morning. streets are slightly wet that drizzle we talked about developed overnight hasn't been measurable, enough drizzle that we're dealing with those slick streets. here's a look at live doppler, all is quiet now. we are going to remain cloudy

towards parade time 10:00 people gathering, mid to upper 50s towards 1:00, a few breaks in the clouds, breezes pick up, upper 50s to low 60s. rain will hold off in san francisco until about 7:00 this evening when the heaviest and steadiest of the rain is most likely. dry for parade, dress for upper 50s to low 60s. crews are racing to put up balloons and complete floats. it looks like die-hard fans are getting an early start. terry mcsweeney is live at the staging area south of market. >> reporter: good morning. what a morning it is. everything is heading towards getting ready for this parade. i'm at mission and stewart, market street one block that way. take a look down that street, wide open down to market. before too long the cars are going to start lining up from here that way for several

blocks. over there in that nonscript rv is where they are setting up we'll hear from them. as you long down stewart you see the port-a-potties also trucks, people getting ready, driving up market a few minutes ago i see people sleeping on the sidewalk which is not uncommon in san francisco the ones there on market are wearing orange and black. they are sleeping overnight to have the best possiblewcñ(z location for the parade. also see some people who are not sleeping, they are standing around some appear to be doing something you cannot do at this parade, have alcohol. behave, enjoy. how many people? a million, who knows. more later. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. if you want to be among

the first to see your heroes you want to gather at the foot of market where the parade will begin that's also where katie marzullo is live. any further sightings of floats or fans? >> reporter: no floats, but fans. you have to look this way along market at the foot at stewart, folding chairs have appeared not within the last five minutes i would say. we will talk with those fans in a moment find out why -- well we know why. they are going to be sitting out here for a long time, parade not getting underway until 11 a.m.. other than that you see the police presence, wet roads, barricades going up, banners overhead. in about an hour we expect floats to start creeping along this location they are going to hideout on the side streets

until the parade gets underway. floats being put together since game three. on the floats you will see the giants community fund board members. the players are going to be in convertibles, so the fans can get a better look at them. there are 100 entries in the parade, san francisco police department number one, most valuable player pablo sandoval, number 99. we want to show you the parade route. we have a map the parade starting at the foot of market at justin herman plaza. the route is straight up market, to the civic center no side roads, no detours to make it easier for police to patrol. getting started here where i stand at 11:00 this morning. katie marzullo, abc7 news. the team will dismount at

civic center plaza and speak to their fans that's where amy hollyfield is live with preparations going on. >> reporter: good morning. they pulled off a miracle here in civic center plaza they've transformed it. in just two days, they've put out 3400 square feet or feet of barricades, they've built a bandstand, stage, balloons on every lamppost, orange carpet, it is completely different than the normal plaza we are used to seeing they started working on it 7:00 yesterday morning. here's video from the 2010 party. there are predictions that this year will be bigger than that year. you gotta wonder how, because the plaza was packed. we'll see how many more they can squeeze in this year.

officials did make changes based on what they learned. they are going to have a jumbo screen and speakers on the far end of the plaza for those gathered as far back as the asian art museum. they didn't expect that many people last time. if you find yourself at the very back end of the plaza, you will have a screen to look at. let me show you the schedule of what they are tentatively expecting. parade will start at 11:00 they believe it will take an hour and a half for all cars to get down market street then the party will start here around 12:30 then the speakers will begin and then a party and they expect it to wrap up at 2:00, keep in mind that is tentative, sometimes speakers run longer or the route goes slower this is a rough estimate in case you want if get in front of your television. the main theme of the day is

just about 4:45. breaking news overnight from new jersey a neighborhood is on fire and firefighters are unable to respond. these are live pictures from new jersey on the jersey shore you can see the flames burning. this neighborhood is on a barrier island we are hearing reports firefighters can't get there because the bridge to the island has been washed out by superstorm sandy. the fire is burning out of control. you can see that in multiple spots. stay with the morning news, coming up we go live too new york city for an update on the recovery efforts following sandy's landfall. >> back in the bay area, standoff in santa clara between suspected bank robber and police s.w.a.t. team ended in the best possible way, the suspect surrendered it happened at an apartment complex 3:00 yesterday afternoon. police say they tracked the man from a bank robbery in

san jose to one of the apartments in the complex. s.w.a.t. team was called if and managed to talk the man into giving up. >> they will have two-way dialogue until he surrendered. >> with the suspect in custody, six families who were evacuated were able to return home. contra costa county sheriff's office investigating the death of a man in their custody after he was tased. the death forced officials to close the jail for five hours. deputies were taking a 58-year-old man to a holding cell when they say he became combative. they used a taser to get control of him and say medical staff checked him out after the incident. a deputy found him unresponsive he was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. haunted halloween for more than eight million still

several smaller ones spreading out from it. the roads are impassable as it is in many of the towns on the east coast the town was under mandatory evacuation order ahead of the storm that is the good thing that nobody is there. burning now hard hit by superstorm sandy. >> president obama will head to new jersey today. new york, stock market and two major airports reopening laguardia remains closed. mark greenblatt joins us live from lower manhattan. >> reporter: good morning. right now the power remains out in lower manhattan. as you just mentioned there is a big sign of life because this morning mayor bloomberg is going to be out ringing the opening bell on the floor of the new york stock exchange resuming normal trading after a really devastating storm. it was another night of no

new york city will ring the opening bell at the new york stock exchange to mark reopening, two days after hurricane sandy closed for two full days. mike is following the forecast, what do you have? >> there's sandy moved towards buffalo as we talked about yesterday overnight the radar returns are still diminishing in size and intensity. scattered showers, snow showers higher elevations are going to continue for the better part of today still looks like three airports going to remain closed for another day or so, if you have to fly in best chance to fly into a smaller airport around and take a bus, train, something if you need get up towards new york. here at home you can see the embarcadero center, the orange lights, looks good, don't see much drizzle here but it is out there. check out radar and satellite
