conclusions. 45 degrees and by this afternoon, lunchtime is when we expect rain to hit the north bay first and spread south through the bay area with temperatures mainly in the 50s. we will see the heaviest rain during the afternoon hours. things start to taper off for the evening as temperatures drop down below 50 degrees tonight at around 7:00. then we have showers continuing into tomorrow. but i will tell you exactly when you can expect the rain to hit your neighborhood this afternoon and how much rainfall we expect by tomorrow evening. katie. >> all right, francis, thank you. a tsunami warning that was issued early this morning for parts of southern alaska and parts of the canadian coast has been cancelled. a wave generated by an earthquake overnight is not posing a threat. tsunami warnings were triggered when a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit just after 1:00 our time near craig, alaska. it included coastal areas from cordova, alaska to the northern

tip of vancouver island. the seam warning was cancelled around 3:00 this morning. this weekend hundreds of friends and relatives are sharing their grief and affection for a 19-year-old petaluma woman who was found dead in south lake tahoe yesterday. alyssa burns' body was found in the snow with no apparent signs of trauma. abc7 news reporter john alston takes us to the high school where alisa's brother thanked everyone who helped find her. >> for more than an hour the crowd of 100 stood there and barely said a word. toward the end alyssa burns brother got up to thank everyone. >> all we need to focus on is moving forward and just healing. we need to focus on the healing. so from the bottom of my heart and from the bottom of my family's heart, i just want to say thank you.

expressing her affection for her. >> she's a loved and valued individual in this building and we wish her family the best and we are sorry for their loss. >> the manager said they are planning a fundraiser for the family. an organizer said alyssa burns father wants the money to go to other families who have to go through the torment of a missing child. in petaluma, john alston, abc7 news. it appears alyssa may have taken a wrong turn the night she disappeared. she left a musical festival at lake tahoe community college on foot and was presumably headed for her hotel room at a resort about five miles away but her body was found in a spot in the opposite direction. two utility workers in south lake tahoe found her body on pioneer trail on the other side of a snow bum. investigators say she was fully clothed and there were no signs of foul play. hundreds of leaving condolences on her face book page. you can join that conversation

on facebook.com. all lanes are opening on northbound interstate 880 in san jose. a crash last night just before ten caused a massive backup for more than 3 1/2 hours. three lanes were blocked. you can see what happened after that. the chp had to actually issue a special advisory to avoid the area. lanes were not fully cleared until 1:30 this morning. officers are still trying to determine what caused the crash. part of 101 in san jose was also shut down after a pedestrian was hit and killed on the freeway. it happened in the northbound lane just about 7:30 last night. there was no disabled vehicle near where that pedestrian was hit. officers shut down three northbound lanes to investigate, causing a backup in that area. that reopened around 1:00 this morning. two elderly people have died in the north bay following a severe outbreak of noro virus. more than 60 others have come town with the bug, which is

often referred to as the stack flu. it's happening at the redwood retirement community in mill valley. more from our reporter. these signs warn of a noro virus outbreak at the retirement center in mill valley. >> a lot of people have come and brought their family members home so that they won't be exposed. >> marin county public health officer said of the approximately 250 residents at the center, 63 have fallen ill. six were hospitalized and two died. but he says the deaths will not be attributed to the virus because both patience had serious diseases and neither wanted life-saving measures in the event of an illness. noro virus is contagious. the center has been cleaning constantly to stop the spread of the virus. >> i'm completely confident that not only will it be done correctly, but it will be

friends went home after a party. the boyfriend left after the woman fell asleep and she woke up to find someone was having sex with her. she demanded the man stop but the man continued. his attorneys claim he should be acquitted because she impersonated her boyfriend, not her husband. >> the law requires that that person be someone who i ipersonates her husband. >> impersonation of anybody with rape should be a felony. >> they plan to close the loophole in the california rape law. an evacuation order triggered by a gas leak in brentwood has been lifted. pg&e crews are work to go fix a two minute inch line on saint andrews drive. they evacuated several nearby homes. ten customers are still without gas service.

abc7 news business and technology reporter david loui gives us a preview of what the future holds and wham be unveiled next week. >> for two and a half years engineers at cisco in san jose has been working on what they call smart, connected vehicles. they are cars that can talk to each other using wireless networks. by doing so the goal is to avoid collisions and to alert drivers of danger ahead. some of those issues are being addressed by a new breed of self-driving car. google has been test driving them in the bay area and nevada. next week toyota and audi will unavailable theirs there. is a quick look at the toyota self-driving car. but cisco said there's more to be done. >> the self-driving cars, if it's only a segment of the cars and not all cars really doesn't solve the problem. but if we unable all cars to be connected and have the self-driving mechanisms built into them then the future surf report much closer. >> they have been collaborating with automakers, parts suppliers and government agencies both in the u.s. and europe.

temperatures there hit 108 degrees yesterday. each summer searching temperatures and high winds drive huge wildfires across southern australia. not an issue here. we've seen the clouds rolling in last night and we know what that means. >> it means rain. right now under partly cloudy conditions. we show you this live shot from emeryville looking out from the bay bridge in the background. live doppler 7hd is picking up on the cloud cover. this means rain later on today. the clouds are moving in from the coast. no rain yet falling around the bay area. in fact, it's looking pretty dry through the morning hours. i'll show you how the rain plays out this afternoon. temperatures right now in the 30s and 40s. so still pretty cool in santa rosa. freezing there at 32. 33 in fairfield and some 40s around the bay and into san jose. because of the extra cloud

cover, we are seeing some temperatures a little warmer compared to yesterday at this time, especially in fremont where we are 7 degrees warmer than we were yesterday. so expect the rain to hit your neighborhood today. showers will continue overnight into sunday morning and then we get another nice break. warmer and sunnier monday and tuesday. so that's something to look forward to. it's not a total washout for the weekend. i'll show you what's happening with our satellite radar image. so we have this cold front. we will get the south end of this cold front and that's going to bring us the rain in the pm hours. the forecast models shows it pretty quiet through the morning hours. 9:00 is when we start to see some light to moderate rainfall mainly off the coast coming in toward santa cruz. lunchtime still fairly safe except for parts of the northern bay area. we start to see the rain move in, possibly a cell moving over the bay. the bay bridge into

san francisco. but the cold front makes its way through the afternoon hours. so 2:00 this afternoon most of us under rain. it will start to spread into concord and livermore where it will get cloudy and then as the front pushes through by 7:00, that's when we start to see things change and then turn into showers overnight into tomorrow. but look at sunday. it's actually looking pretty good. after 10:00 shower chances diminish and then we will see some sunny conditions even sunday afternoon into sunday evening. when all of this is over, rainfall totals not too much. mainly half an inch at the most. but look for up to .6-inch in the north bay and possibly up to.eight-inch along the coastal areas on the peninsula and the south bay and east bay .2 to .4-inch. a high of 53 in san rafael, 55

the sierra foothills east of sacramento is desperately trying to save a deer that got stuck in a bashed wire fence. melanie discovered a big buck with its antlers stuck in a blue tarp on her ten acre property. she made calls to try to get help for the animals but no agency has agreed to come. sheriff's deputies say they aren't prepared to rescue an animal that large so they could only put it down. >> we don't want it destroyed, we want him rescued. he's beautiful trophy buck. i'm going to cull in eldorado. >> she said the buck has a mate and that they have produced several fan over the years. she's hoping someone will step up and save its life but so far no agency has been willing to do it. bay area native americans who belong to the cherokee nation have a chance to morning to get a new photo i.d. card. starting in october the nation's

largest tribe started issuing citizenship cards for their members from coast-to-coast. today the mobile group is in oakland on international boulevard. they will issue photo id cards starting at 10:00 this morning until 5:00 this average. there will be a general meeting from noon to three. cards are similar to driver's licenses and qualify as photo i.d.. california is home to nearly 20,000 cherokee citizens. he seems to be unstoppable. a serial con-man who prays on drivers along the embarcadero in san francisco. abc7 news first reported on him in 2011 after an arrest, but he's still on the streets. now with the america's cup coming and more possible victims, the question is how can he be stopped? abc7 news reporter vic lee with the story you will only see on abc7 news. this is maybe the most prolific petty theft criminal in

san francisco. police have arrested or made contact with him more than 50 times. this is his wrap sheet. twelve pages long. almost every time he's arrested he spends a short time in jail, then he's back on the streets doing what he does best. he goes to unattended parking lots with pay stations along the embarcadero. he poses as an attendant and collects money from drivers as they pull in. making things worse, the drivers often wind up with a ticket on their windshield from parking monitors who check the lots. he was caught on a kgo security camera as parking attendants grabbed him while he pretended to be one of them. again, he was arrested, but back on the streets just a few days later. >> this type of activity is be absolutely unacceptable, it's criminal and needs to stop. >> the supervisor's district includes the embarcadero. he is worried from him and other imposters will pray on the

prosecution. he was arrested again on november 17th. chances are it won't be his last. vic lee, abc7 news. no more freebies when it comes to parking on sundays in san francisco. starting tomorrow you will have to pay to park from noon to 6:00 everywhere. the city says this will ease congestion and raise revenue. about $2 million in the next year. the city won't actually begin ticketing until later this month. drivers will be issued warnings for the first three sundays. climbing yosemite is a popular goal but the park has approved a plan that permanently limits how many people can do it. a maximum of 400 hikers a day will be allowed to make the trek. that's the same number as an interimlan that went into effect in 2010 as a way to reduce congestion. it's 5:38 and coming up next a new messaging service from facebook that could some day allow you to call your friends

that's also where we are seeing limited visibility at three-fourths of a mile. livermore also reporting some fog and visibility reported at 4 miles right now. novato also dropping down to five miles. so today you can expect the rain to return to the bay area mainly after lunch for most of us. then showers continue overnight into tomorrow morning. warmer and sunnier monday and tuesday. we take a look at the satellite radar image. the pacific satellite image shows the cold front moving through. the tail end will bring us the rain this afternoon. doesn't look like a ton of rain but enough to slow down some outdoor activities. 9:00 this morning possibly some rain along the coast. light rain. then lunchtime we are still mostly dry but it's after hundred of that the cold front moves through. 2:00 this afternoon into 6:00 is when we see the heaviest rain with some locally gusty winds as well.

then 7:00 tonight things start to dry out. turns into showers overnight into tomorrow morning. tomorrow, by 10:00 we will possibly see a lingering leftover shower, mainly in the south bay, san jose, morgan hill and then sunshine by sunday afternoon. not a total washout for the weekend. now totals, up to.eight-inch along the east and the peninsula. up to .6 in the north bay. east bay, south bay, .2 to .4 and not as much rain there. this means snow in tahoe but not until late tonight and tomorrow. today it's mostly cloudy. you should be safe driving to and from tahoe with a high of 46. snow showers expected for sunday with a high of 30 degrees. so travel could be a little bit difficult getting back home from tahoe tomorrow. highs today in the 50s. 55 in san francisco. even some upper 50s in san jose and livermore.

the worst year in six decades for whooping cough in the u.s. doctors report bad 42,000 cases last year. the centers for disease control and prevention is still collecting data so that number could increase to as many as 50,000 cases. the disease killed 18 people last year. health experts think doctors are getting faster at doings and treating the disease. it used to be a bigger problem until a vaccine became available in the 1940s. >> san francisco's rare river otter is turning into a big attraction. sutro sam, as he has been named, took up residence near the old sutro baths and brought in big crowds to the bay area yesterday complete with cameras and video recorders could catch him frolicking in the water. he's believed to be the first river to ther to make san francisco his home in decades. sam has a twitter accounts now. one tweet reads, yes, i am the cutest, don't forget that. sea otters have nothing on me.
