good morning, kira. >> good morning, carolyn. as you said, security will be tight. it already is tight. police and highway patrol are already out this morning patrolling the streets and it's all just to make sure fans are safe. san francisco police chief greg suhr tells us there will be twice as many police out on the streets come paired to the typical sunday. and muni will run bus that is can be quickly rerouted so they don't get stuck in celebrationings like they did after the world series win. all buses on market street will be detour and most will switch. the f market street service will be replaced by buses all day today. all the plans are not to get in the way of any potential celebrations. again, leaders reiterate they just want everyone to celebrate responsibility. >> we don't want to arrest anybody, we want everyone to have a blast and celebrate the

any fundraising efforts needed to pay for the funeral. in fairfield, abc7 news. richmond and el~cerrito bart stations were shut down for a couple hours yesterday after a suspicious item was found on the tracks. stations were closed around noon after a package was spotted at el~cerrito dell norta. the object was harmless and service returned to normal. new this morning, the next about tenant to move into the san francisco palace of fine arts could spend up millions to renovate the 90-year-old building. the former home of the exploratorium is now vacant, although a private boys school will lease the space until the summer of 2014. today the san francisco examiner reports the next tenant will be responsible for upgrading the roof, the piling system and drainage and put in an energy

generator. it could cost as much as $15 million to $25 million according to sources familiar with that site. an architect durable study showed the is palace built for the 1915 panama exhibition is otherwise in great shape. there's a proposal to replace san francisco's entire network of parking meters by next fall. the city has about 23,000 older meters that accept only coins and muni payment cards. those, plus the newer sf park technology meters, would all be replaced with brand new equipment. the coin meters are about 8 years old. the newer ones four years old. city managers say they are supposed to be replaced every seven years. the city of oakland is cutting parking rates just in time for the chinese new year. parking garages, for instance, will charge just two dollars to park monday through friday. the rate reduction is part of a pilot program to bring more

chose it donate. >> that's beautiful. according to the hospital, there are 10,000 people in northern california waiting for organs. of those, an average of 18 die every day waiting for a transplant. a group of good samaritans helped save the life of a man struggling in the surf. it happened at stinson beach yesterday afternoon. abc7 news reporter sergio talked to witnesses and has the story. >> reporter: this is cell phone video of the helicopter dispatched to airlift a man after he was pulled from the surf at stinson beach. video was shot by eduardo. he said surfers came to the man's rescue. >> three people were surfing and one guy calling for help. >> witnesses say they pulled the man out of the water and started yelling for help. some people on the beach pitched in. in that group from the beach were two people, a doctor and a nurse, and they quickly started administratorring cpr.

>> in this picture shot by another person at the beach you can see a huddle of people around the man in distress. according to the marin county fire department, he may have suffered a heart attack in the water. the quick action by the surfers who pulled him to safety may have saved his life and the doctor and nurse who happened to be enjoying the beach this afternoon were also in the right place at the right time. >> a man and a woman in the bay doing cpr, very good cpr, and the guy, and they, he started to breathe. okay. >> authorities did not release the identities of the good samaritans. same goes fortmann who was pulled from the water. he was air notified doctor's medical center in san pablo. he was awake and talk when he was be being loaded into the helicopter. at stinson beach, abc7 news. and there's a warning this morning about sneaker waves on

northern california beaches. the national weather service has called them a has starred alert. sneaker waves can rise up out of nowhere and can sweep people into the surf. lisa, they are also called rogue waves, correct? >> yeah. at 10:00 is the advisory. by the afternoon they should subside. we have partly cloudy skies. numbers mainly in the 40s. it's not too cool out there. the winds are calm and a little fog is developing along the central coast. i'll have the rest of your weekend forecast for the super^bowl and a return of rain. we will talk about it coming up. >> thank you, lisa. also neck, if not for the 49'ers, the sharks might be the talk of the town. last night they tried to improve to a perfect 8-0, facing off against nashville. rick kwan has the highlights coming up in sports.

cloudy and cooler. elsewhere we will get into more 60s around the bay. 47 in mountain view and los gatos. 46 for san jose, 43 novato. 50 half moon bay and 49 in monterey. so starting out with the clouds around the bay, keeping us pretty mild this afternoon. we will look for a little bit more in the way of mixing as the system to our north begins to push to the east. that will allow for a little bit more sunshine and temperatures to come up into the 60s for most neighbors. although that fog along the coast keeping it cool. then much, much cooler air heads our way with some rain beginning on thursday. we talk about the rogue waves, possibility right on through 10:00. so still very dangerous here. so avoid the slippery rocks and never turn your back to the ocean because we are still look at the high swells right on through midmorning hours. here's the way it looks. satellite and radar composite, you will notice that much of the

serious -- sir russ clouds we had yesterday are heading to the east. as that continues to spin and gets closer to us should mix things out. we will more of a northerly component. you will notice that throughout the day today we should see more in the way of sun except right at the coast here it should stay on the gray side. that will keep the numbers barely at 60 degrees. the high pressure once again keeping the storm track to the north not only for the rest of the weekend but it looks like back to sunshine tomorrow, into the early part of tuesday and then by wednesday we are looking at partly cloudy skies and cooler air begins to head our way. back home mid-60s sacramento, 80 in calm springs with upper 40s in the sierra and back home 59 with the clouds around half moon bay. 64 in napa and down by the monterey bay it's been a little cool here yesterday and today still upper 50s. you head inland, 64 in gilroy.

standard at citibank. >> welcome back, everyone. are you ready for some football? super bowl xlvii is just hours away. fans and first responders are getting ready for celebrations in san francisco. abc7 news reporter kira klapper joins us live along the embarcadero. good morning, kira. >> good morning to you, carolyn. as you said, first responders are preparing twice as many police in fact will be on the streets in san francisco today. we all remember those destructive and violent celebrations after the giants world series win. it was a wonderful thing, but some rowdy fans ruined that, and they don't want that happening today. of course, there are some much lighter preparations going on, as well, across the bay area.

in the marina, police are expecting big crowds, in addition to the north beach communities. on chestnut street they are cranking out 49er cakes. they cost in the $60 range. people are buying them up along with hundreds of cookies and cupcakes at four dollars a pop. that will be a crucial part of one woman's super bowl party today, she tells us. >> surprise. whoever can get closest to how long the national anthem is going to be without going over gets a cupcake, a 49'ers cupcake. >> the game is also inspiring art efforts. it took a week and a half for one man to finish a painting of quarterback colin kaepernick. filled like to see it, it's on display at the main street cafe in. and more than 100 police will be on the streets and check points in effect across the area. mayor ed lee has asked bars to watch how many alcohol they are selling today. of course, when the giants won

oakland mayor jean quan is warning plant owners if they want the city's contract they need to treat their employees well. the comment made after a meeting of oakland recycle plant workers yesterday. they aired grief advancefs low pay and unhealthy conditions and bosses who retaliate. the mayor said that all has to change. >> you have a new contract coming up on garbage and we've been having a hard time getting competition going n the next two years we will be letting out a new contract and trying to get a little competition between the companies. private competition usually treats people well. >> we contacted all four companies who own oakland's recycling plants. none gave us a response to the workers' claims. coming up next, having trouble get to go sleep? the one thing you can to to help you get some zs. and take a live look from the san mateo bridge.

what is happening at night may be the key to why memories fade as you age. turns out it's not how much you sleep but what kind of sleep that may be crucial. it's called slow wave feet. nonwave deep sleep that occurs in in the first few hours of a sleep cycle. your brain waves are actually different with higher peaks and valleys. >> that sleep is transferring memories from one location in the brain, a short term location, to a long-term location. >> we all heard of retesting femmery by memoriesing dates and faces. but they ask them to memories ordinary words paired with nonsense words. the theory, that the ability to retain previously unknown information declines with age. doctors then tested to see if people could remember those word pairings after sleep. the older patients with less low wave sleep had a harder time remembering the words. >> if you had bad sleep your memory was a lot worse. if we can improve sleep,we can

with high temperatures well below the average. in fact, snow levels down to 2500 feet. when we see this area of low pressure head our way next thursday. that could bring some showers and a few areas of light snow on top of mount hamilton. we are looking at the dangerous waves continuing right on to 10:00 from the sonoma county coast all the way down to monterey. really be advised that it is still very dangerous out there. and by this afternoon those waves will begin to subside. here's a look at our satellite and radar composite. yesterday the cirrus clouds really filled the sky for much the morning. then they begin to clear out a little bit. notice today much of the cloud cover continues to push to the east. we still have the low clouds out there but the forecast, the computer animation shows that some of this is going to mix on out. so we are looking at a partly cloudy day today with temperatures should be rebounding on the other side of 60 today when we do get the sun. so high pressure in control the rest of the weekend into the

early part of the work week. we will see dry conditions right on through wednesday. then that low drops south and that will bring a big change to our forecast finally. 74 in los angeles with 62 on the coast. back home highs ranking from the lower 60s from san francisco. 59 and cloudy conditions half moon bay with 63 in fremont, san jose. down by the monterey bay we have the clouds and 58 in monterey. 64 in gilroy. the accuweather seven-day forecast shows that the temperatures not changing much through tomorrow, but a slight dip on tuesday. then by wednesday we are look at some mid-50s coastline. here comes the cooler air with the showers and that system on friday. we could see the low snow levels and then it looks dry, though, into next weekend. so not a big system but a lot of cold air packed with it. >> sounds good. you have a super^bowl party today? >> yeah. how about you? >> well, very quiet. my guy is there in new orleans so that makes a difference. >> holding down the for the?

>> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, february 3rd. let's get things started with a quick first look at our weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi there, carolyn. 49er faithful, we are looking, of course, at the embarcadero where it is all lit up. we are talking about another beautiful day around the bay. we had a good deal of cirrus clouds yesterday and today. things will change a little built. we will get more mixing. the clouds will be at the coast. there will be more of low cloudiness that stays banked up along the short line. inland we will see more sunshine w the mixes we call it partly cloudy. upper 50s around half moon bay. 60s san francisco with mid-60s east of the bay and south of the bay. more sunshine from san mateo to san jose where you had a lot of clouds yesterday. then for the evening hours we will get cool pretty quickly. we will get into more clearing and several dry days ahead and mild averages before we really get into a
