unbelievable. >> as the tribute grows with cards, candles, and flowers from the community we have learned that the suspect goulet was discharged from the army back in 2006 following two rape charges in hawaii. the investigation is still unfolding. we are live in santa cruz for abc7 news. >> the memorial for the officers will be held next thursday at 11 a.m. at the kaiser permanente arena with overflow seating at santa cruz civic auditorium. thousands are expected to attend which is why they are planning for the overflow. the event begins with a motorcade from the county fairgrounds in watsonville. >> the scholarship fund is established. we have a link at abc7 news under oh see it on tv. we will have continuing coverage on the officers killed with updates on facebook.com/abc7.

>> we are learning more of the abduction and chase that resulted in a suspect being fatally shot by sonoma county sheriff deputies. it ended with shots fired in guerneville. use reporter, amy hollyfield, is live with more on how social media helped crack the case. amy? >> amazing story. she was texting with her cell phone. you are not going do believe how she helped police find her. we are here at the santa rosa police department to ask more questions. the department is still investigating and cannot answer the questions and have not said why a deputy shot and killed her attacker. the kidnapping suspect was slot and killed in a rural, quiet area of guerneville. the scene of the shooting is tough terrain, roped off by investigators and unreachable. >> half a mile down the road off

to the right is a community back there. they have a fence, a members' only thing with a against and the guy allegedly ran through the fence. >> a man was asleep when the activity passed by his home but he did not quite realize the seriousness of what was happening. >> i was in bed and i heard the sirens coming up the street and i didn't think anything of it. and my wife woke me up to say my daughter came home and needed to get and there were cars all over the place. that is all i know. >> it started in san rafael at 10:45 when a man kidnapped a man. she texted a description of the car to a friend from her cell and the friend called police. officers saw the car and tried to pull him over but he kept going and drove around two spike strips police put in the path. he finally crashed in

guerneville and deputies helped the woman escape. a deputy trying to arrest the man shot and killed the man. police have not said why. >> it is normally peaceful back there. one of the last things you expect up here but welcome to today. >> we asked the police if this woman knew this man and we have asked who he is, why they shot him, and they say those are answers they are still trying to put together themselves. hopefully more information will be forthcoming later today. >> thank you. a 6 a-year-old new mexico man and his 38-year-old son from colorado are extradited for a triple murder after killing three people in the rural community when a marijuana deal went bad. they were trapped with another suspect in custody traveling through several states in

february. police arrested the 46-year-old last month during a traffic stop in mobile, alabama. >> the fog is lifting, but it is dill extension and it is hanging stuff in other areas. >> it is clearing but it was a foggy morning that made driving difficult and dangerous. >> shut down san jose international if a couple of hours early this morning and it is still causing delays at sfo. >> well start with live doppler 7 hd and you can see that fog is still thickest along the coast and sitting over the bay area. that is the key, the cooler water, the air does not rise off the cooler water so we are seeing the fog. we see the land in emeryville right now just if the last five minutes start to clear and the same thing as we look at the bay bridge, here, at least coming to the toll plaza and here, looking from emeryville you can see most of the fog sitting right on top of the water but because there is a breeze out there, the air

is rising and pulls in the cooler air from over the bay so one or two of the fingers of fog moves ashore but mostly we are quiet in the south bay, this is 87, near h.p. pavillion and san jose is the first to clear out of the east bay valley never had the fog and north bay is cleared now. in the last five minutes oakland has gone from 1.5 mile to three miles and sfo from quarter-mile visibility to nine miles. the fog is just about over. the chances of cooler weather and a couple of chances in the seven-day outlook. >> the st. mary's is being punished because of recruiting violations with march madness only three weeks away. >> the basketball team can play in the tournament but starting today, the team is paying a price for recruiting violations. the infractions committee finds

a former assistant coach acted unethically if recruiting international players. he provided them with improper travel, transportation, and host family accommodation. there were incidents of trainers not employed by the college working with the players. the committee finds head coach randy bennett failed to monitor this and the chairman says there were plenty of wreck flags. >> the head coach was aware of the previous employment as a professional sports agency, and his termination from a two-year college because of improprieties. the punishment? the team is on probation for four years starting together. coach bennett cannot recruit off campus next season. he will be suspended if five games next season. also, the program is losing scholarships. 11 rather than 13 for the next two reasons. they held a news conference on campus and the director says this is about two prospects from

>> we have developing news from florida. this house sitting on a massive sinkhole could collapse at any moment. 36-year-old jeff bush is presumed dead after the sinkhole swallowed him up while he slept. the bedroom floor gave away and the brother tried to save him but he almost went in, too. he and four others got out. the hole is estimated to be 30' wide and 30' deep the. >> developing news from southern california.

large brushfire continues to burn in riverside county. palm trees have been going up like torches and embers are flying making for dangerous conditions for the northbound by homes. some neighborhoods are under voluntary evacuation orders. flames broke out at 4:45 yesterday afternoon. overnight it grew to 200 acres. right now, crews have it 30 percent contains. >> deadline for congress. massive federal spending cuts will go into affect at midnight at a meeting between the president and congressional leaders went nowhere. >> we should not be making a series of dumb cuts that businesses and workers depend on. >> president obama says he cannot convince republicans to do the right thing. but g.o.p. leaders argue that the $85 billion in spending cuts about did kick in are the president's fault for insisting that increased taxes be part of the resolution. the president also spoke for the first time about the legal brief the administration filed

this is westbound 24. don't know why the chase began but the car was headed westbound toward the tunnel and it appears that the lanes to the right are blocked while they remove vehicles. the middle area is getting through but they are squeezing everyone in so expect delays. we will have more on the story as the information unfolds. >> lift off of the falcon 9 rocket and dragon. >> the spacex dragon is on the way to the international space station with a payload including special items from the bay area. the rocket launch from cape canavaral shortly after 7:00 this morning but there was an issue with the thrusters. flight controller have partly resolved the issue. there are a dozen experiments on board designed biological high school students. it will arrive tomorrow morning. >> two dolphins were found stuck in wetlands off the pacific

coast highway. the dolphins have been in shallow water near the wetland across the highway from the ocean. you are looking at live pictures. it is hard to see but in the middle of screen you can see what is going on, it is not clear how the dolphins ended up there or how long they have been there but the pacific marine mammal center is coordinating the rescue. >> we will turn over to mike nicco with the weekend ahead of us 69 warm? >> i think so, warm today, warm tomorrow, cooler on sunday and monday and next week. we will save money on water bill. now, live doppler 7 hd shows it is starting to clear out as we overlay the clouds. the coast will be last to clear but you will have more sunshine than yesterday with a northeast wind that is blowing offshore. you can see where the storm track is, look at this it comes way down to the south and it heads up to the pacific northwest. this whole area of cold air is coming our way for next week and

we will see it changing with the season. it is clear across the bay with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 50's and check out pleasanton at 68 in mill valley 69 and palo alto is 60 but you are coming into the sunshine. here is a look at san mateo bridge, the foggy area in the bay right new. temperatures are running 55 in fremont because of that fog, low-to-mid 60's in santa rosa and napa and fairfield and gilroy. today, it will be mostly sunny this afternoon and we are still going to have our warmest afternoon especially in the east bay valley today. that is where it will be warmest. clouds tomorrow and evening sprinkles and the wet weather for tuesday, especially wednesday, and lingering on thursday, a beautiful picture of tahoe this morning and you can see temperatures are back here at home, with the snow contrasting the 60's and 70's we will have to the cooler weather there up in the mountains and check out our temperatures inland, low-to-mid 70's and mid-60's to low 70's around the

bay and low-to-mid 60's at the coast. tonight, clouds roll in keeping the temperatures up, mid-to-upper 40's inland valley and upper 40's to low 50's for the bay neighborhood. we have dangerous surf today and tomorrow and a lot of sneaker waves throughout as you try to walk around to get from one beach to the other and you try to time it between the waves this is not the time to do that. here is the high pressure that is bringing the storm track well to the north, and right now it is holding on but it is going to loses its grip starting tonight with the overrunning of high clouds. you can see it tomorrow morning and watch the clouds increase through the day, because the winds are stilling from the southwest it is a immediate flow and by 7:00, notice the sprinkle developing hanging around through midnight, and the cold front, the dry cool air comes in for sunday, and we will see more sunshine, temperatures are probably going to be cooler then. if you are headed up to tahoe it will be 58. evening showers tomorrow and winter mix for sunday and 49
