>> two people hurt, once transported in critical condition after a high speed accident that happened just after 1:00 p.m. near redwood dumps. investigators say one car believed to be traveling southbound rear ended another car. the free frae was closed in order to land a helicopter to transport that person. >> breaking international news. venezuelan president hugo chavez died after a two-year battle with cancer. the socialist leader known for his style and harsh criticism of the u.s.. chavez objected to the wars in iraq and war in afghanistan, and any united nations speech referred to george w. bush as, quote, the devil. today president obama reaffirmed support for the venezuelan people, and for a

constructive relationship with the government there. huggo chavez was 58 years old. >> the incoming storm has residents in one san francisco neighborhood worried. >> but the city says rain won't increase the risk of more sink holes. you can see the view from sky 7 which flew over the neighborhood last week. unstable soil caused serious damage. >> three homes are now red tagged. is that right, heather? >> that is right. still three as of yesterday and today. three yellow. the city not expecting that to change. in anticipation of rain they did inspect roof tops of the water-damaged homes. otherwise they're not expecting the rain to do anymore damage. it will be months before they're fully recovered here. >> this hull is supposed to

have water in it. it helps compact the soil around a freshly-repaired pipe. it's one of six that the story will be repairing here. they were damaged when a 16 inch water main broke, and flooded the neighborhood a week ago. a two-foot river of water roared down 15th avenue damaging 23 homes. the pipes are just one of many projects that will take months to complete and will be an agonizing wait for owners of the three homes. that st how long the city says it will have to wait and watch the unstable soils underneath them. one large sink hole spread underneath the three red tagged houses and threatening other yellow tagged homes. the city says it will take tle to six months of waiting to see how the soil settles and dries out. only then can engineers decide if the homes can be saved. sfpuc says the rain storm is not big enough to make

blast of wintery weather from montana to virginia. minneapolis could see the biggest snowfall this winter. the storm is barreling through illinois head together nation's capital. it's expected to arrive tonight. people there have dubbed the storm snow quester. >> western wisconsin dealing with the affects of the storm, take a look at the semi that slid off the interstate then into a river. the dive and rescue team recovered the body. crews searched for a second person believed to have been a passenger. a foot of snow forecasted today for parts of wisconsin. >> an engine fire forced an alaska airlines flight carrying 53 passengers and crew to make an emergency landing this morn. the flight took off heading to boise, idaho about 11:00 a.m. but just 20 minutes later an indicator light showed there was a fire this the plane's right engine. so the plane returned to san jose for a landing where it was met as you saw there, by crews on the ground.

property crimes, like theft. narcotic autos police have an important piece of evidence thanks to someone at sausalito yacht harbor. >> the instinct said they don't belong. and so that person took it further and said, well maybe i should take a picture. >> didn't know the value but for us, it's huge value because it places them at the scene of the crime. >> the yacht ran aground monday morning. police don't know why. the boat was stuck in the sand for hours and took quite a bit of maneuvering to free. it took about four hours to tow it. once on land, damage was evident. the man who will be doing repairs was actually pleased. >> better than we thought it would be.

rain. by 5:00 in the mosh morning there will be wet spots out tlchl the pattern continues through the day tomorrow, overnight, into thursday. by 11:00 rainfall totals up to two inches in the north bay mountains as much as half an inch to one inch throughout the central part of the viewing area. now, overnight tonight with rainfall developing we'll see lows in the mid 40s to low 50s so it won't be cold but rain makes you feel colder, tomorrow, a chilly day with periods of rain and high temperatures only into mid to upper 50s. next three day lbz that way.

mouths and noses. some with gas masks. they have been told to walk away from that gas leak. i talked with battalion chief about what pg&e is doing in terms of the natural gas leak we're having pg&e come over, we're walking to see if there are pockets of gas. we're on lock down, not letting people leave until we can ascertain the extent of the gas leak. >> there is a shelter in place they are still trying to keep people from going in. chief thompson said woe smell a strong odor of natural gas. we're seeing people heading out of here, covering their faces. but they say that no one has been sickened.

and we're looking at breaking news we've been following at st. luke's hospital in san francisco. encouraging news about that natural gas leak. crews capped the leak just minutes ago. you're looking at people leaving the hospital after the shelter in place was issued many covering mouths and noses because of the smell of gas this, is on san jose avenue and duncan street.

we're able to see people coming out covering their faces because of this strong smell but that leak has been capped. firefighters went throughout the hospital to check if gas pockets accumulated in the building again. the gas leak has been capped. >> it was a historic day on wall street. dow jones closed at an all-time high. the blue chip index climbed almost 90 points higher than the previous record ni october. the standard and poor's index rose more than 14 points today. >> wall street traders are taking these numbers in stride. >> you don't see champagne bottles because there is still a very big disconnect between what the market is telling us and what the economy is telling us.

conditions at heavenly right now from lake tahoe tv. the area is expecting 10-20 inches of snow coming up in just 15 minutes we're going to have a live report from blue canyon. the storm is welcome news for skiers and operators. >> emergency crews lifted a lock down at st. luke's hospital within the last hour. cruise ordered a shelter in place because of a natural gas leak a block away in duncan street. the smell permeated the air and reached the hospital. firefighters then locked down the building. abc 7 news was there. firefighters and pg&e crews began checking to see if pockets accumulated inside of the building. >> it was alarming because the smell kept getting stronger. to the point you kind of start getting dizzy and your head hurts. we decided to leave early. >> many were still wearing
