given an estimate of the damage that was done. we will update you with further details this morning as we get them. >> new details about the man would shot and killed two santa cruz police officers last week. deputies say jeremy goulet lost the coffee shop job and sold the motorcycle and told the house mates he was moving out. police say sergeant loran "butch" baker and detective elizabeth butter were at his house to investigate a groping case and he opened fire on them february 26. a public viewing of the caskets is held today at the santa cruz funeral home on ocean street from 3:00 to 8:00. the public memorial for detective butler and detective sergeant baker is held tomorrow moved to the h.p. pavilion in san jose to accommodate a larger crowd. a motorcade from santa cruz will precede the memorial. our live coverage begins here at

11 a.m. >> a suspected carjacker who was shot by san francisco police last night is expected to survive. the shooting happened after a chase through the bayview district. the driver of a stolen bmw was cornered. police say he backed into an officer trying to arrest him. >> the officer was knocked to the ground. the bmw re-positioned itself and about to go forward and the officer was vulnerable and could have been seriously injured or killed. two brother officers fired at the bmw striking the driver one time. >> he says that the bmw was stolen the day before and the carjacker had a shotgun. police are looking into whether the same suspect may have been involved with a series of recent armed robberies. >> this is the latest in a string of officer-involved shootings. there have been six the past week, two in san francisco including last night, and one in guerneville, hayward, union

city, and san jose. >> we have an update on the faith hayward shooting. police now say they unintentionally shot and killed a 19-year-old passenger of a car that rammed a police vehicle and sped off. the suspect car crashed a short time later. initially it was unclear whether the passenger died from the crash impact or from the bullets fired. police want the d.a. to charge the driver with the passenger's text. >> a man shot and killed by police in san jose over the weekend was remembered as a candlelight vigil. family and friends gathered last night saying he had previous run ins with the law for petty theft. police say saturday's shooting began with a chase after he rammed the car into a police cruiser. >> he was being portrayed as violent maniac because at home he was a regular kid brother. bugging he and my kids and playing with us.

>> the cell phone video captured the gunshots as the officers fired at the 27-year-old police have yet to find a weapon. >> the sheriff department is notifying neighbors aboutç a h risk sex offender who will live near an elementary school. the 68-year-old served time for sex crimes against children and is being released but cannot find a place to live. two attorneys have offered him a cottage on their property. the cottage is near willow coffee elementary in bay point. a judge agreed to let the defendant live there saying it is better than releasing him as a transient. >> new this morning, the mayors of san francisco, san jose, and santa clara are meeting at the new 49ers stadium site this morning to boost the bay area bid to host the super bowl in 2016. the new state-of-the-art high-tech stadium in santa clara is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the 2014 nfl season.

the three mayors will join 49ers c.e.o. to look at the progress of the stadium construction and provide an update on the bid to bring the super bowl to the site. abc7 news reporter, amy hollyfield, will have more in a live report in the next half hour. >> the rain is here as forecast by mike nicco. i wonder how that will impact the stadium tour this morning. >> and can we still see showers? >> nice observation, we have some of our best radar runs down around the grade coming through the grade where 80 and 84 and 68 to stevens boulevard and mission roads coming from the hills and slide into fremont. you can see we are seeing our better radar runs. headed to the south, you can see light to moderate rain right now headed back to lafayette street across 237, over toward mountain view and sunnyvale we are seeing a little bit of a decrease in

the intensity of your rain and you can see from cupertino all the way down to saratoga over to campbell pretty good radar runs right there on 85 and also on 17 coming into downtown san jose where we are seeing light-to-moderate rain. this is all headed to the northeast. the east bay valley is ready to get another round. mid-40's, to low 50's outside, and as we head into the afternoon hours, we are going to have scattered shows throughout the forecast with temperatures hanging in the mid-50's. we will get a low tonight and more showers tomorrow when the snow level dips to 3,000 feet, and friday and saturday increasing sunshine and warmth. still unsettled. sue? >> speaking of tahoe, we do have chain requirements on highways 80 and 50. if you are headed to the sierra you need four-wheel drive or chains. on the san mateo bridge we have high win wanting for the major bridges with the exception of

on the richmond police force and someone tried to kill him. but what makes this so personal is the police say it was all a set up. >> we do think this officer was intentionally targeted. rich monday police say an officer came home and found his two-year-old black lab dying after it ate meat with poison and he rushed the dog to the vote and left the k-9 partner of nine years in a kennel in the backyard. that is when the burglar struck. >> the house was ransacked. five firearms were stolen. as well as numerous personal possessions. >> here is what really bothers the officers in richmond. both of the dogs involved in this were locked, secured, in kennels and of no threat. >> the police won't say what the dogs ate but the family's lab died from the same poison. the k-9 and the trainer are not being identified but an officer,

another k-9 officer was with the trainer at the vet. >> it didn't lock good for his k-9, his partner, for it quite some time. he got the attention that he needed immediately. >> if the dog was on duty, the poisoning would have been considered a felony assault against a police officer. instead it is just being considered a misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge, this is now a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction. >> a national defense ship is leaving the bay this morning on the way to retirement. this is a u.s. wichita deployed in the 1970's in support of the vietnam war but it has been in benicia since 1993 when the navy decommissioned it. after stopping in san francisco it will head to texas to be recycleed, with a total of 41 ships leaving the fleet in four years. the bay bridge is officially the

world's largest l.e.d. light sculpture with thousands gaffing to watch the debut at 9:00 p.m. when the project was switched on consisting of 25,000 l.e.d. lights attached to the western span of the bridge. locals were excited about the temporary addition to their view of the bay. >> it will be on for two years. maybe we will get sick of it. i don't think so, it looks pretty cool. >> you can see more of the light show. over the next two years it will burn through $11,000 worth of energy. you can check it out starting each night at dusk. >> after two years it will be hard to take it away. >> we will be addicted. >> we still have shows, though. >> absolutely. we will show you what is going on with live doppler 7 hd.

normally you would thing they are going from northwest to southeast but because we are on the bottom of this low and it is a counterclockwise flow you can see the showers moving from the east to northeast with the best radar runs in the south bay and in the north bay we have a few radar runs up here and it is where we receive most of the rain, three quarters of an inch in santa rosa with the pinks showing a winter mix and the white is actually snow. the snow level is in the not bay at 3,000 or 3,500 feet making it to the south bay more likely tomorrow. here is the south bay, 87, near h.p. pavilion and it is raping -- raining right now. temperature is 49. mill valley is at 48. palo alto and oakland are at 50. 51 right now in san francisco. as we look at the toll plaza you can see the streets are definitely wet. the highway is. temperatures elsewhere, santa rosa is 47 and fremont is 48.

fairfield is at 50 degrees. we are going to see about another quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain moving back through our neighborhood as we head from today all the way through friday morning as the unsettled weather rolls through. the temperatures are in the low 50's along the coast and the rest of us are in the mid-to-upper 50's. tonight we see temperatures cooler, with still scattered showers possible and the best chance in the overnight is in the north bay with mid-to-upper 30's inland and low-to-mid 40's headed through the rest of the day. now, a look at the appropriations committee seven-day -- accweather seven-day outlook they will taper in the evening, the showers and the best chance is tomorrow morning with the commute in the north bay spreading south with the colder air and that is why we have hail in the forecast if thursday afternoon and evening and a snow level down to around 3,000' in

all neighborhoods. the showers will linger through early friday morning, and friday afternoon you can see clearing taking place with sunshine and temperatures starting to warm a little bit. by saturday, we will have sunshine back and seasonal temperatures. we loss an hour of sleep. spring forward on saturday as we set the clocks for daylight saving and look at the 70's on monday and tuesday of the temperatures are above average with a lot of sunshine. not out of the woods yet. sue? >> so far, so good, we have slick road conditions with high wind at san rafael, south 101 where it was gusty this morning. you can see traffic is moving nicely but the roads are wet with speeds and wet roads could make for a tricky commute. toll plaza is no metering lights, obviously and no problems on the upper deck headed into san francisco and light conditions and to san jose, highway 87, this is the julian exit with light traffic conditions. it is raining.

the wet roads can easily be seen. >> the family of a man who died at a nursing home say they don't blame the facility after a nursery fused to perform cpr on her. the family of of the 87-year-old said she knew or they knew the staff wasn't trained to provide medical care. the company that operates the home says the employee who initially identified herself as a nurse to the 9-1-1 dispatcher was a resident service director. the death has sparked investigations by the city and the state and policy reviews by senior living facilities on how staff should handle emergencies. >> federals are loosening a grip on carry onitems on the airplane. the t.s.a. announced new rules will allow foldable knives with plaids 2.36" long. passengers can carry on novelty baseball bats less than 24"

>> is she far enough long? >> she probably knows, you could at that stage but she is not telling. >> mike nicco knows the weather and very important this morning with the rain coming down. >> absolutely. in the south bay, you can see the east foothills, the key road, story road, 101, all those areas, 880, 680, wet with light-to-moderate rain. right now the wet weather is moving to los angeles for the afternoon hours. if you are traveling you are find scattered showers. in the mountains, have the chains. the snow is falling. the wind is blowing. we will get 10" to 20" by 10:00 this evening on the western slope of the sierra and half of that, maybe two-thirds of that, say, 8" to 15" in tahoe and local white out conditions through the mountains today.

>> we are going back to the golden gate bridge where traffic is slowing nicely. we watched the crews headed out to configure your morning commute making the four lanes southbound, two lanes in the north direction, to the san mateo bridge just a few brake lights making the town westbound toward the high-rise up and over to foster city. otherwise we have light conditions but we still have high wind advisories for the major bridges at this hour and in south san francisco, reports of some sort of a traffic sign in the right lane, northbound, 101, with cars possibly swerving to avoid that. c.h.p. will try to get it out of there as soon as possible. >> the city of berkeley is considering taking a different approach to dealing with drivers would vie hate parking restrictions at bigs of the under the plan, property owners would be allowed to site the vehicles. it is an effort to discourage drivers from parking in spaces reserved for specific businesses and not patronizing the

businesses, which frustrates the business owners. some say they don't want to hand out tickets. >> i don't necessarily agree. >> how so? >> the parking is bad enough without getting a ticket. >> the only recourse is to call a tow truck. >> a bay area congressman is proposing a big hike in the federal minimum wage which now stands at 7:25. east bacon man george miller introduce add bill along with iowa senator tom harken to raise minimum wage $3 to $10.10 an hour. that is just over the $10 minimum wage now in affect in san jose. but less than san francisco where it is $10.55 an hour the miller and hacken say raising the wages will lift millions out of poverty but republicans argue that it would hurt employers and, therefore, hurt job creation. >> ike a is recalling chocolate

cakes weeks after their famous meatballs tested positive for horse meat. this time, officials in china say they detected fecal bacteria in the cakes. china destroyed two tons of the cake. they say this happened in december but they only learned this week about it and food sales make up 5 percent of their total revenue. >> a restaurant in downtown san francisco plans to serve their last meal this month. they have been serving for 27 years claiming to be the first fine dining chinese restaurant to introduce asian fusion food to san francisco. the restaurant says that it will close march 31 when the lease expires. >> it is 4:57, and football season, long gone, but, still on the minds of leaders in several bay area cities. what they are doing this morning to try to bring the super bowl to the bay area. >> firefighters battle flames in sonoma county with details of

and we are getting a little bit more rain to coyote and morgan hill, right around butterfield boulevard we have better radar return with rain through san ramon and danville right now. this is moving to the northeast at 30 to 35 miles per hour. brief, heavy shower is possible this morning and through the afternoon but it will taper as we head into the afternoon hours with temperatures low-to-mid 50's and mid-to-upper 50's for the rest of us. >> so far, so good, we have slick roads though, with the rain. high wind advisory for the bay bridge and golden gate bridge and san mateo and dumbarton so all the major bridges but traffic is light at the bay bridge with no metering lights and walnut creek the tail lights headed in the southbound direction moving toward the 24 junction you can see traffic is moving well and, again, you can see by the reflection, they are wet and cannot emphasize enough
