spin outs were the drive from the central rally is picking up, but, still, looking good with speeds at the limit. kristen and katie? >> 5:02. a big step this morning in the bay area bid to bring the super bowl to santa clara. the major players are gathering at the new stadium in just a few hours. amy hollyfield is there live. what will happen, amy? >> any sour grapes there were about having the stadium move to santa clara will be set aside today. we will see three mayors coming together, the mayors of santa clara, san jose, and san francisco, promoting the idea of having a super bowl right here in this new same. they are promising a dynamic super bowl where you do not have to worry about electricity. they promise you will thought see a power outage like the super bowl in new orleans. the new stadium will have two new electrical substations and solar panels to provide extra

energy. the new stadium is about 30 percent complete. it is set to open next year. it will cost about $1.2 billion to build. it is a finalist to host the 2016 super bowl. it is now between santa clara and south florida. this is the first super bowl here in the bay area since 1985 and 49er owner says the bid committee will present the bid at ownerss' meeting in may when the host city is chosen, so, today the mayors, the c.e.o., all will be showing off the stadium. they will give tours to the media. they will lay out the reasons why the super bowl should be held right here in santa clara. >> thank you. palo alto police have released a sketch of an armed robbery suspect. look at the man would robbed a public storage facility with a semi automatic gun on saturday and took catch and the land line 15 and ran off.

the victim described him as 6' with a thin build and they are investigating whether this robbery is connected to others that have been happening in palo alto since early december. >> an alleged drunk driver who hit and killed a teen in san francisco last weekend is set to make the first court appearance today. the 29-year-old woman faces manslaughter and felony d.w.i. charges for the death of a 17-year-old girl who was struck while crossing the boulevard at veil avenue on saturday night. she was a junior at a local high school and a member of the track team. there is a growing memorial in her honor at that intersection. the city has accepted a federal grant of nearly $800,000 to make pedestrian safety improvements on the boulevard. >> new this morning in the north bay, file fighters are look into the cause of a fire that destroyed part of a horse-training facility near santa rosa. it erupted at 8:00 last night on

the large property on crane canyon road near petaluma road. the flames destroyed a big barn and threatened living quarters. two families were displaced by the fire along with 65 horses kept in the site. firefighters from several agencies remained on the property over night. >> an arsonist is suspected of igniting a brush fire in the east bay. this fire started at 7:30 last night off highway 4 in martinez. witnesses reported seeing a man with a flashlight pulling some kind of -- pouring some kind of lighter fluid in the area. >> jewelry box from the oakland museum is back where it belongs after being stolen. oakland police arrested this man who may also be connected to a november 12 break in at the museum when three pistols and several gold nuggets were stolen. they have not been recovered. the gold and jewelry box was then off yesterday, it is worth

weekend, we have more sunshine and warm spring-like weather. here is a look at what is going on, you can see the north bay and the south bay at 7:00, the best areas for isolated shower or two and they taper during the afternoon and into the evening hours and the north bay will get some steady rain in the overnight hours. this will start to move across the rest of our neighbors, noon tomorrow through the afternoon and evening hours with a heavy batch of rain at midnight in the heart of the bay and by 7:00, it is sinking south and by friday afternoon into the evening hours we will have clearing skies and cool and damp conditions because of all the moisture hanging around. we will get another quarter or three quarters of an inch of rain in the lower elevations. the seven-day outlook shows it is going to be in the low-to-mid 50's tomorrow with the afternoon sun shine we will be 50 at the coast and 60 inland if friday and look at the 50's at the coast and low-to-mid 60's on

17 and 280 in the south bay where the rain ended 10 or 15 minutes ago and the heavy rain shows drizzle. it has moved from the santa clara valley and toward morgan hill and fall apart as it is down to gilroy right now. up in the east bay we have a light shower around san ramon and danville that moved to the higher ill -- elevations and the showers are falling apart but for a light shower in the north bay. we are getting quiet right now. as we head into the afternoon hours, when the sun comes up, it starts to reenergize the atmosphere and we could have another scattered showers. mid-to-upper 50's in the bay and inland and low-to-mid 50's at the coast. we will have more showers tomorrow and 70's if the weekend and next week. we will have that in the forecast. sue? how is traffic? >> we still have high wind advisory in the major bridges so

with a wet parking lot here at hamilton marketplace. we are in between rain cells but the big story this morning seems to be the wind and it is causing big problems in santa rosa where the crews have a downed tree blocking gates road and high winds took the street down but cable, phone, and power lines along with it and it happened at:15, fire crews still on the scene trying to figure out how to get the tree out and how to get power back to people. it is not known how many could be without power and 15 -- phone lines. the drive across the golden gate bridge was dicey. this video shows a heavy storm cell moving through. winds were gusting over the span, too. you have to really slow down if you are crossing the golden gate bridge this morning. this was our drive up through petaluma this morning on 101

northbound, rain hitting the windshield, and we did taught see any accidents but we called c.h.p. a short time ago and there have been spin outs, some minor accidents, no one seriously hurt, but if you are out there, the roads are extremely wet and you have to be careful on your way to work. we are live in novato for abc7 news. >> power outages are keeping people in the dark all over the bay area this morning, and the largest of the out aims is in near sea cliff state beach, with 1,100 without power, and 400 in martinez without power and out average in pleasant hill is affecting 370 and 300 people are without power in son -- southern cal. >> a stand off with a patient at san mateo general hospital has ended peacefully. a hospital spokesman said that

the man set small fires in his room before 1:00 p.m. and barricaded himself inside. the staff evacuated the patients in the surrounding room. police negotiators talked to the man and got him to come out at 1:30 this morning. miss have not made any arrests or given an estimate of the damage. we will update you further with details as we get them. >> new details of the man would shot and killed two santa cruz police officers. jeremy goulet lost his coffee shop job, sold the motorcycle, and told his house mate he was moving out. detective sergeant loran "butch" baker and detective elizabeth baker were at goulet's house to investigate a groping case and he opened fire on them february 26. a public viewing of the officers' caskets is held today at the santa cruz funeral home on ocean street from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. the public memorial for detective sergeant loran "butch" baker and detective elizabeth baker will be held tomorrow and it has been moved to the h.p.

pavillion in san jose to accommodate a larger crowd. a motorcade from santa cruz will precede the memorial. our live coverage begins at 11 a.m. right here. >> a suspected carjacker who was shot by san francisco police last night is expected to survive. the shooting happened after a chase through the city's bayview district, the driver of a stolen bmw was cornered in a deadend and police say he backed into an officer. >> the officer was knocked to the ground. the bmw re-positioned itself and about to agree forward. the officer was vulnerable. he could have been seriously injured or killed. two of the brother officers fired at the bmw striking the driver one time. >> it was it seems to men the day before and the carjacker had a shotgun. police are looking into whether the suspect could be involved

with a series of recent armed robberies. >> it is the latest in a string of officer-involved shootings, there have been six. two in san francisco, including last night. and one in guerneville, hayward, union city, and san jose. >> update at faith hayward shooting. police say they unintentionally shot and killed a 19-year-old passenger of a car that rammed a police vehicle and sped off. the suspect's car crashed a short time later. initially it was thought clear if the position jerry died from the crash impact or from the bullet fired. police want the d.a. to charge the driver with the passenger's death. >> a man shot and killed by police in san jose over the weekend was remembered at a candlelight vigil. family and friends gathered last night. friends say he had previous run ins with the law for petty theft. police say the shooting began with a chase after he rammed his car into a police cruiser. >> it surprised me that he was

is looking at 16", and virginia mountains are looking at 21" of snow. >> cardinals are electing a new pope and holding a public prayer service ahead of that today. this is new video of cardinals arriving at the vatican this morning where workers prepare the cistene chapel for the election of the pope. today, the cardinals will thank recently retired pope benedict for his service to the church with no indicate announced for the election. >> a richmond police k-9 is involving after being intentionally poisoned. an officer found the family dog, a two-year old black lab dying after eating meat laced with poison and rushed the dog to the vote and left his k-9 partner in the backyard kennel and burglars broke in and stole five guns and poisoned the k-9. >> both dogs involved in this were locked and secured in

kennels and of though threat to any burglar. it was obviously an intentional act. they could have broken into the house and committed the crime without doing anything to the dogs. >> police will not say what the dogs ate but the family lab dies from the poison given to the k-9. the department officials considered it an assault open one of their officers. >> the national against ship is leaving the bay this morning on the way to retirement. this is uss wichita deployed to support the vietnam war but it has been in benicia since 1993 when it was decommissioned and will head to next to be recycled. a total of 41 ships have left the national reserve fleet in the last four years. the bay bridge is now officially the world's largest l.e.d. light sculpture. crowds of people gathered in san francisco last note to watch the lights day lieu at 9:00 p.m. the new york artist switched on his

avenue southwest of santa rosa around petaluma, more than anything else, and you had light rain a second ago and now it has moved out. the radar has been updated and up to the northeast you can see irwin lane we have the better radar runs and jennings avenue and guerneville avenue and west college avenue. headed to the north, coffee lane, windmill circle, those are the areas that had some rain. now, democratting out to show you what is going on we have our best chance of showers in the north by as the south bay, that line is falling apart. here is a look at 680 and walnut creek, it is not raining right now. good news for you but residual moisture open 680 and the temperature in correct yes, 48, same in mill valley and palo alto is 49. here we are from our roof camera, you can see the ferry building and the bay bridge, and
