>> this is make-or-break day for the city college of san francisco for fixing financial and management problems or cause a ripple effect that could result in closing. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom with more. >> city college sends in accreditation report today. if they get a failing grade the largest college of nearly 90,000 students could be forced to close. with the deadline ahead, students and teachers marched to city hall shouting and chanting in an effort to be heard. they do not want classes cut. teachers could be left without jobs. city college has been in notice since july because of serious problems with leadership and fiscal planning. the college has been making changes, tightening their belt, but the students and staff don't like it. >> more financial accountability more stream lined administration.

a closer look at how we manage our facilities. closer look at how we track student success. >> no one has been disappointed and quality of the education they get here. it has been mostly a financial management problem. >> a particular sticking point is the $16 million city college got from san francisco's proposition a. students and staff wanted the money to go to help the cuts but the school put it in a reserve fund. the accreditation commission will decide on city college in june. there is actually a second legal deadline impacting city college. the school has to pass out pink slips to employees today who might be laid off in the coming months. >> katie marzullo, thank you. a man responsible for keeping our borders safe is facing charges of distributing child pornography on the intent. we uncovered this story and you will see it only on abc7 news.

a homeland security agent and an investigation began two years ago into suspicions he was sharing child porn. the investigators went do his san francisco home and found 85 images and videos on a sophisticated computer system. >> i was at the house with a whole closet downstairs like he had his own independent server, several computers and hard drives and electronic storage devices. >> he was arrested while working at sfo security check point for passengers from overseas flights. he is held on $150,000 bail. >> tomorrow, it will be a year since morgan hill teen went missing at 15 years at the time of her disappears while walking to a bus stop near her home. the prosecutors have charged torrez with kidnapping and murder but the body has never been found. two events have been organized to mark the disappearance

including balloons released at the search center. a fundraiser will be held in fremont starting at 1:00 o'clock p.m. at the address on the screen. there is more on our site as abc7news.com. >> the archdiocese of san francisco will have a prayer service for a mother and her two sons killed in a horrific crash last week. the prosecution says that the suspect had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit when he hit and killed them on saturday night. this is video from the court appearance on tuesday. yesterday, the 28-year-old sobbed in san mateo county superior court. he did not enter a plea to three counts of manslaughter while intoxicated. the judge ordered him to return to court next tuesday. a memorial fund has been set up to help the family cover funeral confidents. >> 14-year-old junior high school student in fremont is in instead after police say he made two bomb threats. the late it call happened

woman and bars federal recognition of same-sex marriage. now, portman says he would like to see congress repeal that provision. >> in south dakota, the search if two people who went missing after jumping in the falls to save a boy is now called a recovery mission. the fire chief says the six-year-old fell in the water at the park yesterday, and a woman related to the boy and a man both jumped in to try to save him. as you can see the water is covered in folk from the falls and at some point the boy was able to get out of the freezeing water. the family says he is okay. but officials are still looking for the two people who tried to save him. >> two workers have life-threatening injuries after a giant screen fell on them in florida trapping them. two other workers were hurt after being struck by the falling equipment. this happened as the giant screen was hoisted in the air to be part of the stage of the

antioch. they approached the city of the expansion back in 2004 and the bigger store would include a bakery, produce market and enhanced outdoor living department. opponents claim it will produce more traffic and hurt local businesses. >> if you want to surf the web in downtown san jose you can do it super fast, the mayor helped to launch the new service yesterday. the city is offering super fast high speed wi-fi to the public if free. the network covers 1.5 scare mile area of downtown and connects san jose's existing fiber network and dozens of new antennas. the result is wi-fi speed up to four times faster than other public networks. the name incorporates "wickedly fast." it was so fast they had to swear special jackets when they had the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

>> the big apple has gotten bigger. new york city says the population has hit an all-time record with roughly 8.37 million people. people are moving into the city rather than out for the first time since the 1950s mostly in the last two years. the mayor credits lower crime rates and better job opportunities. >> the bay area is seeing growth. the census bureau estimates san jose population is around 96 967,000. that is up more than 21,000 from the 2010 survey. san francisco's population is 813,000 right now, up 7,600. oakland's population is just under 396,000, also up 5,000 from the year before.

traffic is looking good through livermore. >> breaking news from san francisco's presidio heights, police are on the scene where they have just taken a man into custody near jackson and spruce. this started with reports in the past hour we were telling you the man was vandalizing a taxicab. police say he stole the cab and led police on a chase. again, that suspect is now in custody. we have a crew headed to the scene and we will bring you new information as we get it. awe have developing in us in richmond, the shooting death of a man at the bart station during the height of the evening commute. sky seven was over the seen as officers canvassed the area. it happened on the top of the staircase that commuter use to go in and out of the station. two men are behind the shooting, witnesses told the officers they took off running after the shoot ing. bart service is running normally and the station is open this morning. >> develop news this morning a bay area teacher arrested on

charges of important pornography charges of child pornography is in the hospital after attempting suicide in a drug overdose. he was arrested on wednesday at the school where he taught in monterey. a search of his home turned up a thousand video clips and photographs of children who appear to be under ten. >> we didn't find any video cameras in the house that would make us indicate that he was manufacturing child pornography. however, we have not done a complete forensic evacuation to find out if there is child porn we can consider not known. >> he worked in san jose as a substitute teacher great 2008 until just a few weeks ago and the school district has notified parents. >> santa clara and monterey county crews joining the search for a missing santa cruz county man, a 20-year old matthew abraham last seen by the parents

tried to grab it from her home and the victim would not let go and was dragged east bus. the other two men are accused of blocking 9 path of anyone who tried to help the victim. >> an army spokesman says they did not prosecute a former soldier because there wasn't enough evidence on the rape charges and the soldier went on to kill two santa cruz police officers. goulet was accused in two rape cases in 2006 but the prosecution says the d.n.a. tests failed to link him to the victims. now let gunned down the santa cruz detectives. former defense secretary panetta and bay area members of congress demanded investigations into how the military handled this case. >> more officers will hit the streets in san jose during rising property crimes. this afternoon, 43 recruits graduate from the san jose police academy, the first graduation for the police department since2009. there were 28,000 property crimes in the city last year, a

30 percent increase from last year. the ceremony takes place in downtown san jose. >> this morning, san francisco crews will try to repair the damage caused by a natural gas leak. it forceed evacuation of five homes. we were over the leak minutes after a backhoe slice add 2" gas line around 7:00. department of public works crews had to punch two holes in the pavement to get to the leak. they managed to shut it off an hour later. everyone was allowed back in after that. >> the last part of the new downtown traffic look in hayward begins. this is provided by the city of hayward and shows how the loop works starting at mission and jackson street and designed to ease congestion and make downtown access easier. it is part of the 23 corridor improvement project, with construction wrapping up in time for the monday morning commute and the final towns are come

live doppler 7 hd shows it is dry this only. the lack of cloud cover is very prevalent here on the golden gate bridge this morning. temperature running 49 in san francisco and san carlos, and oakland is at 47 and 43 at half moon bay and santa cruz is 44. here is what i think for the forecast cycle, it will be brighter and mild today with high clouds and sunshine but not quite as dimming as they were yesterday. breezy but dry through the weekend and rain returns on tuesday and especially wednesday. here is a look at tahoe where we are not getting any snow not until tuesday into wednesday. at home it will be eight degrees warmer in san francisco, and oakland is at three and concord and santa rosa is two and san jose is 70 and fremont will be cooler at 68 for the high today. we will start down the south bay and san jose will be in the 60's and santa clara and milpitas and upper 60's in sunnyvale and

cupertino and everyone else in the mid-70's, and milbrae is 63 which is the cool spot. 68 in redwood city. and near 60 along the coast today, to mid-60's in downtown, and sausalito is at 67 and low-to-mid 70's through the north bay valley a wonderful time to head to the wine country with temperature at 60 at the beeps and upper 60's to near 70 for most of the east bay shore and headed to the wine country and live more it is 74. same in pittsburg and concord. tonight, the temperatures are pretty close to the morning temperatures, low-to-mid 40's inland and upper 40's to near 50 around the bay shore and to the coast but more cloud cover near the coast and a few of the clouds will spill in the day overnight. san francisco is 162nd st. patrick's day parade starts on sunday at 11:30 at 2nd and market street all the way down to civic center plaza you can see we have it highlighted in green, the parade route going

it better because it is not so foggy or cloudy. but a big change is creeping into our weather forecast. mike nicco will talk about that in a moment. >> you will have another option to get around the bay area because of a bike sharing program. there is an agreement, now, with the bicycle share, a $7 million pilot program. starting in august cyclists can pick up and drop off bicycles at 70 different locations between san francisco and san jose. the cost has not been decided yet but a similar program in washington, dc, charges $75 a year. >> the upcoming spring bake is leading san francisco muni system to reduce service while students are out of school part of a new strategy that they first tried over the holiday season in december when fewer were using the city buses and trolls. they will reduce frequencies on a dozen routes from march 25 to

>> we are at jackson and spruce. the intersection is closed. the san francisco police car is on the scene. this could be a car that was rammed by a suspect driving a stolen yellow cab. police say they responded to the area after reports a man was standing on top of the roof of the cab vandalizing the taxi. when the cab driver get out to confront the suspect and asked, what are you doing, the suspect then carjacked the taxi. the taxi was elected a few minutes later here at this intersection. that is where police say the driver of the stolen cab rammed one of their patrol cars. police fired shots. the driver took off. the suspect, we are now told,s with arrested, at the intersection of octavia and bay
