southbound 101 this morning. starting today, thousands of cops statewide will be cracking down on drivers texting or talking on handheld phones. last year police wrote 400,000 tickets for people talking while driving. about 21,000 for people who were texting. that has police concerned because it takes drivers' eyes off the road. many drivers we're talking admit they try to be good but not always. >> i use the phone in the car when i probably shouldn't. it's a course of habit. what kind of problems were they having in california. >> a lot of distracted drivers according to police. >> there probably once a year there is a serious accident. teenagers, mostly, right? >> i think people are becoming aware it's dangerous. it's a dangerous situation.

through the store front yesterday. witnesses say the man hit two cars and tried to run people over in the parking lot before driving into the store. officers ahe got out and started swinging a club at customers. four people were hurt, one seriously. the store will be open as usual today. oakland police are investigating three separate fatal shootings in a span of 11 hours. most recent happened after 8:00 last night at 70th avenue. follows two other shootings one on international boulevard after 4:00 p.m. and other at 68th avenue around 10:00 in the morning. they examined this car with a shot out window and looked for other clues. that victim died after being rushed to the hospital. also in oakland, tomorrow marks the first anniversary of the shooting massacre that took the lives of seven people at oikos university.

21 minutes from now richmond and 28 minutes from pinole could see an uptick in wet weather. widespread are falling right now during the morning commute. they will start to taper in their coverage as we head into the afternoon hours. dry and warmer and unsettled for thursday, friday and saturday and sunday. weak systems will try to bring some rain then. the low that approached yesterday brought us the thunderstorms and some of the small hail but we had in areas in the bay area. this is weakening and we won't see that repeat but still a chance of showers a once we get sunshine and energy in the atmosphere later this afternoon. here we are this morning, you can watch the showers as they move northward, scattered in nature to about 5:00 they start to fall apart once we lose the heating. we are waking up to a lot of fog. you can see some of the drier

francisco right over towards oakland and heading across 24. right now orinda and lafayette getting heavier wet weather. that looks to be the holt spot right now. some of the wet weather has worked its way over to pleasant hill, alamo and danville. that is going to head right up 242 and also at 680. watch out in places like martinez. downtown san francisco, light rain falling and temperatures are running low to mid-50s. walnut creek, palo alto and mill valley. here is san rafael, notice how dry it is right now. with the wet weather your commute is about to get wetter in the north bay. santa rosa, livermore and union city, los gatos between 51 and 55 degrees. i think we'll see a few will
