into the convenience store. the car knocked down counters and smashed into a case on the far wall. >> girls were telling me that they just heard a crash and just jumped over the counter. and that is all they d they just -- they were frightened. >> lucky they weren't hurt. next thing they knew, police were here. a guy was taken out of the rest room. and -- . >> was he hide something. >> yes. i guess so. >> the same car involved in a hit and run. officers said he behaved as though under the influence of drugs. a month later police were called to a house on lorelie avenue. police received a call perfect his cell phone someone was burglarizing the house. but instead of coop raigt he took off, leaving them on a foot chase, police said he appeared to be under the influence of drugs. neighbors said he had a history of erratic behavior.

connection of murders of a couple found shot to death in their home. their 4-year-old daughter was found unharmed. >> a young man received a 110 year prison sentence today. three teens died when a mazda plow nootd underside of a big rig. alameda county sheriff deputies suspected the driver in a series of robberies he was found guilty of second degree murder in december. sentenced today, the 25-year-old tested positive for alcohol and several other drugs after the crash. >> just released 911 recordings from a deadly northern california raceway crash reveal confusion about where crews should respond in moments after that horrible accident. george warren brings us audio tonight first on abc 7 news.

at the top of the 15th avenue and were at west portal and 15th avenue. >> the supervisor is concerned by eight minutes between first call and engines arriving. >> which is kind of slow. it's slow. >> it was a 16 inch water main that broke as a result, three homes are unsafe to live in and 20 more have varying degrees of damage. >> there is a break in the line on february 27th. that day... we realized that this was not a one-day issue. >> it will be months before the city repairs are done and months before engineers know if the red tagged homes can be saved. and then possibly months more of repairing and building for them.

francisco. 63 in san jose. on we go to live view from our high definition east bay hills camera. 62 degrees in santa rosa now. 66 in napa. fog along the coast tonight. warm inland tomorrow, highs climbing into upper 70s in spots but rainy, cool on thursday. so satellite image animating shows high pressure still in control of the weather. look at clouds headed our way. look at the frontal system. an interesting storm is approaching. this system brings us rain on thursday. we'll start at 7:00 tomorrow evening at which point clouds will be thickening already then later into evening rain arrives and rushes in.

hewlett-packard sufrdz a blow on wall street. warning the chances of a turn around may be overestimated. hp grappling with reduced demand and says a turn around will take a while. goldman says hp may not have hit bottom yet. tesla announced a financing plan almost like a lease. you buy the car then sell it back after three years and they guarantee the value will be comparable to a mercedes-benz s class. march was a good month for the auto industry. ford, chrysler and gm all reported increased sales.

suffering with a brain disease. mark is here now. >> joel panser is a brave guy who has been dealt a tough hand. dr. mitch berger spent his career trying to help people like panser, both tell me the president is proposing a big deal. the president says $100 million will help researchers find ways to treat and maybe prevent brain disease autos we study part cells smaller than an atom but have not unlocked the mystery of three pounds of matter that sits between our ears. >> dr. mitch berger says the challenge to scientists will lead to a better understanding how parts interaction yacht. >> so we know what areas work together in the normal function and then, when there is a disease like alzheimer's disease we can understand which piece of the puz jell not firing.

a san francisco couple overjoyed when they brought home their first baby then they had to dweel a billing error. >> you brought them their first days of peace. >> yes. well, as much as you can have. this couple supposed to be enjoying their first year with their first child but were dogged about i a collection agency all over i mistake. one that drove this new mom to tears. anar hooper could not contain joy the day she gave birth to her daughter we're in love. we brought her home. >> anar and her husband found their lives focused on this bundled baby girl. >> it was such an amazing experience and bringing home our daughter. and who you love. >> she the say the care was

exemplary. six months later they received a bill. $993. >> i'm going to pay this online. >> she watched the payment go through that. is why this... was so baffling. >> a letter from collections. saying that i owd this money. and i remember being in shock. >> a collection agency claimed she never paid the hospital bill. anar figured a mistake. she faxed her statement proving she'd paid however the problem didn't go away. >> i get a very nasty phone message to call back. and i did. cpmc denied proof of payment. i need to pay the full amount right now. >> it made no sense. so anar provided more proof. still, the collection agency sent more demands. >> it's like not only wowe this amount, you now owe
