>> from new york city, this is "nightline" with terry moran. >> hello, everyone. and thanks for joining us today. more trouble aboard the carnival cruiseship called "triumph of" a vessel that two months ago left thousands stranded at sea and living in squalor for days after an engine failure resulted in

widespread power outages. this afternoon, that same ship was blown away from its alabama mooring by high winds while it carried 800 people aboard. abc's matt gutman has the latest on the cruiseship with the course as wayward as its luck. for the second time in as many months, all aboard the triumph of were left adrift. storms with 70-mile-an-hour winds. 800 crew and contractors were on the kol las sus as it bounced off of other boats while it was undergoing months of repair. >> due to high winds, the carnival triumph of broke its morings. it had a small collision with an army corps of engineer boat and a deck barge. during that collision, it took a few scrapes and scratches. >> reporter: and an eyewitness described the slow motion chaos

as the ship drifted in the bay. >> someone said oh, my good, look at the carnival. we turned and look, and you could see the carnival coming sideways. there was a tug boat trying to keep it in center of the river, but it just bashed completely sgoo the banking and pinned the tug boat against the bank. the result? this giant gash. tug boats had to lassie the triumph of and slowly ease it back into its dock. it's been a rough ride for carnival the past two months. adrift for five days in february in the gulf of mexico. after an engine final, it was finally home in plo beel and the 4,200 aboard came pouring off. >> worst experience we ever had. we thought we were going to die for a little while. >> and in some cases kissing terra firma for the first time in eight days. >> you can talk to us, come on over.

>> finally back in america and on land. >> some angry. >> the doctor on the staff can, excuse my french, kiss my [ bleep ]. >> reporter: others, relieved. >> i'm just happy to be alive and glad we're here. >> reporter: equipped with every amenity and the 4,000 aboard could only communicate in snipets of text messages. 36 hours into the crisis, no hot food, no hot water, no ac and the ship was listing. >> when we were leaning one way, it was kind of nerve wracking. >> reporter: worst of all, backed up toilets. sewage everywhere. >> one flush, in five days. >> reporter: for toilets, the ship handed out these red bags. >> people were using the restroom in little plastic bags and throwing them out into the hallway. >> we were shocked. i not using a red bag. >> just don't eat.

control the colon. just don't eat. >> we met a couple that we were talking to sna that said her husband was laying in bed and just the ceiling fell down on him full of -- >> urine, feces, all of that. >> yeah. >> reporter: it drove people to camp out on decks. they built tent cities and inventions. >> ship wrecked for, i guess, three days now. >> reporter: abc news was the first to fly out over the crippled cruise. >> you can tell how powerful the wind is, gusting at 25 miles an hour. those conditions bringing out the worst in some people. >> they open ed the bar one evening and gave away three drinks. that was a bad idea. people were throwing things over the side of the ship and acting unruly. >> reporter: the passengers did receive updates, but rob thinks

that was another mistake. >> they were using power to supply printers instead of toilets. >> you had to stand in line for three hours to get a meal. and the first couple of days, it was the onion sandwiches. >> reporter: but at least they were steadily, if slowly, being tugged back to the u.s. that's when mike padilla finally got through to his wife on the phone anxiously awaiting her return. >> they think the tug line might have broken. >> reporter: this is the late nest a string of incidents involving cruise smips last year the costa concordia capsized in italy, killing 32 passengers. and in 2010, another carnival shep, the splendor, was stranded for days after another engine fire. i know you can't talk to me, but is there anybody who can?

thing isn't so eeasy. rose had a shot at pinterest when they were only three employees old. he missed out on a multimillion dollar hit. >> i don't want a clone of something else. i want original thinking. i'm not going to go do 100 deals per year. i'm going to do one every four to six weeks and provide enough space in my life to help these companies out. >> reporter: for the young and ambitious lucky enough to get a meeting, rose is a rock star. >> i actually wish rather than talking about myself, we could have talked about kevin and his experience, you know, at other start-ups. >> reporter: in the start-up world is he kind of a hero? >> he's definitely to be -- yeah, kevin is one of the heroes of the start-up world.

>> some people like them on spaghetti, others wedged inside a bun. no matter what the meatball vehicle, everyone believes they have the secret recipe for perfecti perfection. but there's one place where the humble meatball has become high ark. we met chef daniel holtsman at the meat shop here in brooklyn, new york, to see for ourselves. tonight, a classic "nightline" plate list.

>> every single culture celebrates meatball. everyone has a meatball from their childhood. whether you're from southeast asia or italy or northern europe or africa, you have meatballs in your culture and you've had meatballs in your past. so that's exciting. you say meatballs and people smile. it's incredible. you're smiling right now. >> we're here at the meatball shop. welcome. we've got ground chicken, preferably chicken thighs. cellry. we're trying to get all the flavors of a classic buffalo chicken wing into meatball form. i have a frying pan and a little bit of heat. i'm just going to throw about a quarter of a stick of a butter with about a quarter cup of spice. a pound of ground chicken, two stocks of celery.

going to crack one egg, which will help it all hold together. a healthy teaspoon of salt. about half a cup of bread crumbs. and then frank's red hot right over the top. going to give it a mix with my hands. and we're going to go ahead and roll them and roast them. roll them up, line them up, and pop them in the oven. i also felt like there was something rude about how much people were charging for food. there was really great food for a lot of money. and not a lot of really great food at an affordable price. really simple blue cheese dressing at the restaurant. one part sour cream, one part mayonnaise, one part blue cheese. two tablespoons of milk, salt and red wine vinegar to taste. going to whisk it and bring it together. we have our meatballs ready from the oven. i like to add a little extra hot sauce just over the top.

there you have our buffalo chicken wing minimeatballs. if i heard of a restaurant called meatball shop, i wouldn't think of much. i feel like when you come here, you get a little bit more. you get your bill at the end of the meal and it's a lotless than you would have paid. so you feel like wow, that was awesome. we're here for our second plate, which is our spicy pork meatballs. it is the simplest recipe we make in the restaurant. about two pounds of ground pork. and we have five ingredients. so for this recipe, we use some fresh bread diced up. about a quarter cup of bread crumbs, two teaspoons of salt. we use hot pickled cherry peppers. not terribly spicy, but they give it a really grate briny flavor. two eggs. i'm going to go ahead and give them a mix. and i'm going to pop them in the oven for about 17 minutes at 375

degrees. i'm extremely proud of the fact that i am able to keep it simple. i think that's the hardest thing to do. some of the greatest things in life are the simple things. and you can be best in class whether you're a meatball or, you know, whatever you want to make. our meatballs are ready. the spicy meat sauce, which is my favorite pairing to spicy cooked meatballs with a healthy grading of pardon me -- parmesan cheese. >> mama mia, that's a spicy meatball. now it's time for tonight's "closing arguments." today, rutgers university announced that it has fired men's basketball coach mike rice after a public release of video footage where rice is seen pushing, berating and yelling really vicious slurs at players. rutgers administrators first learned of the tape back in november, suspended him for three games and fined him
