workers at the uc medical center protesting the decision to cuts nearly 300 positions at the medical center. the "san francisco examiner" reports that the medical center says the staff reductions are made to prepare for costs associated with the affordable care act signed into law by president obama in 2010. a report last week by the workers union claims that there are documented problems in the medical center ranging from preventable infections and skyrocketing executive pay. >> new crime stats are out and it is not looking good in san jose where there is a significant increase in property crimes. police figures show there were 1307 more burglaries the first two months this year compared to last year same period. there was 53 percent jump in vehicle theft. police blame staffing cuts. most of the burglary unit has merged with the patrol decision which is still too small. many residents are having burglar alarms install.

mike about how long the rain will be with us. mike? >> a great question. steady rain is through the morning commute and then it becomes scatter showers and you can see how much rain is falling as you head to the toll plaza we are getting ponding in the one area, the little dip before you get there that gets a pooling of water. we have had up to .2" rain in oakland and from alameda through oakland, and berkeley and albany to hercules and that whole area is seeing light-to-moderate rain with the yellow. if you are coming off the bum -- dumbarton bridge it is tapering and the heavy rain is moving over the city to milpitas and toward 880 where it hooks to 101 in san jose. broadening the picture you can see the entire flow coming at

shot and wounded an remain ad robbery suspect after the suspect refused to stop. the armed robbery was reported shortly before 10:00 last night on clay street near 10th street. officers say they spotted three people matching the description of the suspects a block away at jefferson and 10th. police tried to stop them and an officer shot one of the suspects. his injuries are not life threatening and the officer was not hurt. >> an east bay pre-school under investigation for a teacher taping the hands and feet of a student who wall street not take a nap is facing more trouble. the website reports that the administration at the christian preschool sent a substitute teacher pinched and squeezed a chide's arm. the incident happened in february before the more recent taping incident. the school confirmed that the incident occurred in an e-mail to parent that read and i quote, "it is unknown when the incident occurred but it was alleged to have happened in the month of february of 2013 and the staff member was if longer employed as

of late february 2013." the man accused of plowing his car in a san jose walmart store over the weekend is due in court later today. the 33-year-old hamid zaid will be arained in santa clara county court this afternoon, and police said he rammed his car through the double glass doors at the story road walmart on sunday and began attacking customers. he was out on bail for a similar incident that happened last year. new video shows the car being driven by zaid crashing through the front of a car wash in san jose in december. police say he was high on methamphetamine. two months earlier documents show zaid tossed a chair through a window at an irish pub. >> east bay drama teacher accused of molesting two underage girls will appear in court this morning. he was a teacher at walnut creek when the incidents occurred. he was charged in february with abuse involving two girls students at the school.

arrested. >> new report being released later this morning is expected to shed new light on why an oil tanker hit a tower of the bay bridge. the san francisco board of pilot commissioners will release findings from the investigation. the january 7 collision occurred when the vehicle collided with the tower of the bridge on a foggy monday morning. the hull of the vessel was crushed but the inner hull stayed intact so no oil leaked from the tanker but the crash damaged a bridge fender. ntsb is investigating. >> the cal women's basketball team takes off for the final four in new orleans with a send off at 10:30 on the berkeley campus. they take on louisville in a national semi final game on sunday the first final four appearance in the history of cal women's basketball. congratulations, ladies! >> are a safe trip.

>> the debated over how much it would cost to rename sfo has land back where it started. airport officials said it would cost $4 million to change all the airport and highway signs if the facility was named after supervisor harvey milk. he was assassinated after becoming san francisco's first openly gay elected official. caltran then claimed they could do the work for $350 to $720,000. the airports spokesman is telling abc7 news that the figure is $4.1 million. >> the rolling stones are bringing their 50th anniversary tour to the bay area

north of the or one we have been talking about northbound 880 at 29th still blocking a lane. right now we are starting to approach that area at 55 miles per hour and speeds are down to 24 miles per hour the closer you get to the wreck and up ahead, a new accident occurred so it is busy and plenty of blue in oakland and that is making very trench -- treacherous drive with flooding in the roadways so stay in the center lanes and avoid the areas that could cause high -- hydroplaning. >> some called it shacking up and now you can call it "commonplace." nearly half of young women say the first time they lived with a guy they were not married. the results are a change from 1995 when only 34 percent moved in together ahead of a wedding. experts say people are living together as a "testing" ground

toward treasure island and that area. it will head over to oakland. watch out for that. as we slide down you can see to the east of portrero district 280, that area is getting light-to-moderate rain. that is starting to head further to the south. if you are on 101, the rain is pulling away from burlingame on 101 headed out, airport boulevard, and to the water so that is going to head over toward the east bay, so from oakland and alameda to san leandro and hayward you can see an uptick in the rainfall rates the next 20 to 25 minutes. the green means light rain, steady rain, and you can see the yellow is in the embedded areas of moderate rain with ponding on the roadways. we will see if it is causing any accident. >> as we take you back to 880, that is the hub of activity, and that is due to a couple of

crashes and flooding. we are getting a report of heavy rain in that area, the blue on this map, that means we are seeing heavy downpours and the green means it is raining and affecting your commute and we have two accidents along northbound 880 at 29 and one ahead at high and that is causing heavy backups and you are looking at 55 miles per hour slowing down to dow and more as you get closer to the accidents and as you creep up just a little bit further toward the macarthur maze that is where we are seeing flooding almost causing a big rig to crash so be careful. as you take your drive to the altamont pass, we down to 29 miles per hour crawling as you make it down towards livermore and we do have a report of an accident out there, as well, on the eastbound direction and that is before you reach livermore so be very careful out there. >> our storm watch coverage continues from the thought bay now, showers falling this after midnight, and abc7
