but very windy and high winds along 101 at sfo and another south of highway 84. we had early backups but that now is cleared. the rest of the commute is looking decent northbound with a little tap on the brakes and there is diminished visibility along the great low so -- great highway so it is closed in both directions. >> at 5:04. the winds have been howling all morning waking up residents at the coast and part of geary is blocked with a downed tree.

the great highway, construction barriers and markers were blown over. sand from ocean beach is now blown all over the road and abc7 news reporter cornell will have more on the windy weather in the next half hour. >> the wind is creating headaches in pleasanton, downed trees toppled on to several cars and trucks parked. and the wild weather ripped plants from their pots along the boulevard. >> we talked to pg&e and the peninsula has 15,000 customers without power and 4,600 in san francisco and 3,200 customers in the north bay and the east bay has 7850 -- 850 people without power.

>> and the district attorney may have committed a serious civil violation and a possible crime. the "san jose mercury news" reports an e-mail from a lawyer is accusing him of giving the supervising attorneys extra vacation time off to make up for a pay cut. the attorneys are able to save a portion of their vacation and cash it in later. this could cost the county the money it was trying to save when it negotiated a pay reduction with the union. he says he has the authority to grant the leave. others say it is a misuse of public funds. >> the trash company that services thousands of homes and businesses in the east bay says a strike will not permit garbage pickups. voters voted to strike and will not say if they will show up. sky 7 shows waste management employees picketing after workers walked off the job. a dispute over workplace safety triggered that strike.

this time, the workers object to the latest contract offer and say east bay customers will get their crash picked up still. >> san francisco police say a misunderstanding nearly led to a confrontation with young filmmakers that nearly ended badly. police were called to an area near the chronicle at 5th and mission before 2:00 p.m. open reports of people carrying weapons. they had fake guns being used in filming of a rap individual just a moment. >> police officers were doing their job and the citizens were watching do not know it is a fake gun and they do not know it is a boy -- a toy bb gun. >> the rap video was about a bank robbery. police seized two fake guns and a pick -- bill clinton mask.

because. wind. >> lots of win. if we get through them we have a lovely forecast ahead. >> forecasting ahead, we could get wins up to 50 miles per hour along the beach which is why it could be dangerous in the surf today. this is 7:00. right now we are running around 25 to 40 miles per hour and by 7:00 we could ramp up to 30 in napa to 50 at half moon bay and a lot of 40's around the bay shore. we will be around 30 to 35 around the bay and inland with 40 to 45 miles per hour at beaches where we will stay in the afternoon and the early evening hours. overnight we could see them taper a little bit especially in the valleys but we are looking around 25 to 30-miles-per-hour gusts and by midnight 35 over the ocean and tomorrow morning it will only be around 12 in oakland and san jose and 29 at half moon bay considerably

slower. in the mid-20's in the north bay valley and a few 30's at the coast. it will not be so breezy this time tomorrow. as far as the bay planner, sunny by noon and stay sunny. the thermometer will stay warm, mid-to-upper 50's at the coast and mid-to-upper 50's for the rest of us. calmer and warmer tomorrow with the heat at the height on wednesday. the san mateo bridge shows a foggy picture but you can see the tail lights moving in the when direction toward foster city with a high wind advisory for the toll bridges across the bay area so be careful especially the high profile vehicles. we have a sig-alert and this is through the portola valley. highway 84 is shut down. this is between skyline boulevard due to downed branches and downed power lines, as well.

>> now more on the breaking news in san francisco where homicide investigators are looking at a death at a high-rise in pacific heights on vallejo street. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at scene. >> police have cleared the scene. it is back to normal and quiet at pacific heights. do you not see any homicide detectives here. that is very unusual for this quiet neighborhood. they were here last night with a call at 9:45, the fire department got here first to a high-rise building on vallejo street. they found a man, 47 years, who passed away. they called the medical examiner who decided it looks suspicious.

the homicide detectives are looking for a "person of interest" but not calling this person a "suspect" but this has been ruled suspicious and they have someone they want to talk to. unusual for quiet pacific heights but homicide detectives are looking into the possibility a murder happened here last night. >> north korea is again increasing tensions on the korean peninsula with their missile threats and their propaganda. a pro north korea group is showing what looks to be the white house under attack, from a movie, claiming hollywood made the moving showing the north destroying the enemy and three missile defense missiles are ready in seoul. the south korean authorities warn that the north could run a missile test by this week.

prepared to maneuver around a lot of damage caused by the high wins. abc7 news reporter is live with a look at some of the construction including a gigantic tree down. >> we are on portrero where a lot of damage has been caused by high wins. northbound portrero is closed between 24th and 25th. a large tree snapped. it has fallen on to a car. it is entirely smashed, the honda on the sidewalk. it has fallen on to this house. the tree crews from the city are scrambling to remove this tree and cut it down and get it out of here before the morning commute. bringing in a spokesman from the san francisco police department. this tree fell about 3:00 a.m. this morning. >> about 3:00 a.m. we got the report of the tree falling down

nine-year-old daughter. this morning at 10:00, a bench will be dedicated at the school, wood site elementary. the mother lost her daughter and husband when a driver hit them on their bicycles at more than 70 miles per hour on a residential streets. she gets by with the help those who attended the vigil. >> their love and support is quite strong. i wake up and start my day because of my friends and family. >> the 18-year-old was sentenced to seven years in jail for the crash but he was a minor when it happened he will be released after three years. >> two men are in critical condition after being shot by san francisco police at 17th yesterday morning outside the mission police station. investigators say a nightclub across the street closed when there was a dispute between two groups of people, a man from one group pointed what appeared to be a gun at the other group.

the associated press reports authorities have now recovered the bodies of two children from a north carolina home. the six and seven-year-old boys were playing in a trench at a home construction site yesterday. crews have been on the site since then when a man called 9-1-1 say he watched the dirt fall in. crews arrived in minutes but were not able to find either boy until this morning. >> a building in san francisco needs major repair after a car

windy and dangerous monday morning. >> we had rain with it earlier when the low came through and now that is passed to the south. it is dry. the winds are the big story. until 8:00 this evening, the whole area is seeing gusts up to 45 miles per hour possible from the north to northwest. we have an airport advisory until 5:00 and bumpy take off and bumpy landing is possible above oakland and san jose. it is there. also, over the waters, with gusts up to 50 to 55 miles per hour. so the gale warnings is in affect until 9:00 this evening. current winds are gusting fastest at half moon bay with blowing sand at 41 and from 23 in oakland and 24 in san jose but 30 to 31 miles per hour along the peninsula. 18 in santa rosa and up to 30 in concord and napa. in the afternoon, get ready for the breezes.

there is a lot of sunshine. temperatures in the upper 50's to low 60's along the coast and mid-to-upper 60's for the rest of us. leyla gulen has a look at traffic. >> blustery conditions in the east bay. can you look at our maze camera, bouncing around indicating high winds. traffic pouring into the bay bridge is starting to pack up. east traffic is not too bad. the sig-alert shows an update, one-way traffic control in affect so one lane gets by on highway 84 and it was closed for a time between skyline boulevard because of downed power lines and branches and one way traffic control is in affect. to the south along highway nine between skyline boulevard and highway 236 downed power line has toppled on to a car. no word if the car is occupied.
