that. the aftermath of the two damaged cars. the darker gray car, the hyundai with damage to its side is a car the witness said ran the let light. the mercedes, the lighter car, silver one, had two adults and children inside. everyone in the mercedes was taken to the hospital to be with the two injured children. i'm told the other two children are okay. a witness saw one of the children bleeding out of their mouth. as that was unfolding, police tell me the man and woman in the hyundai tried to escape by loading all of their stuff into a cab. >> there was a witness who saw these people loading property from the hyundai, the vehicle on my left, into the back of a taxi cab. >> they were trying to load the cab you have and the officer that was present in an unmarked car, vehicle, cut them off, which is a good thing. save our city, save our

neighborhood. >> well, one of those people who tried to escape in a cab, this man you are looking at, his name isn't being released, he was put in a police car and he is being questioned right now. he and the woman who was also in the car are being detained until police can figure out what happened. but police do tell me that they are going to try to get the surveillance video from this intersection so they can determine exactly who hit whom, and they can figure out how to proceed with this investigation. reporting live in san francisco, kira klapper, abc7 news. and we hope the children are going to be fine. thank you, kira. passengers on board an amtrak train that derailed in fremont last night have reached their destination in vancouver, canada this morning. the lead locomotive jumped the tracts around 9:00 around mowry avenue. the train was able to continue on at 12:30 this morning. 164 passengers on board were stuck on the stalled train for

three and a half hours. >> according to the conductor, the train was going about 15 miles an hour and he, it was in his estimation that it was a track-related issue that caused the train to actually derail. >> they will continue to make track repairs and mowry avenue has since reopened. a candlelight vigil have take place fry for a student who committed suicide after being sexual by assaulted. she was attacked during a night of drinking in september. pictures of the assault were posted on line. the sheriff's deputies arrested three sixteen-year-old boys on sexual assault charges. two ascend saratoga high. they face a series of felony and maryland charges. friday's vigil will take place at the high school at 8:00 p.m.

a gun show later this morning at the cow palace is expected to bring out another huge crowd of gun enthusiasts. yesterday the line just to buy ammunition was two hours long. gun customers say despite what critics may think, they want the public to know they are rational, sane people who simply like to be prepared. >> they are more informed and understand the safety protocols that we have to comply with, you know, trigger locks, safes, mechanisms tested to make sure they are safe. they should be less concerned. we are good guys. we aren't the bad guys. >> in south san francisco, many gun owners exchanged their weapons for cash yesterday. $23,000 was handed out in return for approximately 250 guns. >> one person has died following a fiery accident in novato. a car burst into flames after overturning last night just before 7:00. it blocked the connector ramp to eastbound highway 37. from northbound 101. the chp closed the ramp while

crews cleared that scene. >> new this morning, 16 people are hurt after their tour bus crashed returning from yosemite last night. the highway patrol said the driver lost control of the bus about 40 miles south of the park on state route 41. the bus veered off the highway, over an embankment, throwing passengers to the driver's side. mostly elderly passengers were treated for minor injuries at three fresno area hospitals. driver was not injured. new this morning, the united states and china working together to try to discourage north korea from test firing a midrange missile. both countries are warning the nation's leader, kim jong un, that the consequences of such a move, would be dire. there have been weeks of persistent threats from the north. >> the america's top diplomat landed in japan as the standoff with north korea continues.

after i hopped the fence i heard my parents screaming no, no, please no. don't do it, no. >> no, please god, no, no. it was so fast and he was just in just like that. >> alex smith and his family had just hiked to the falls it when a 9-year-old boy fell into the merced river. alex jumped over the railing and held on to a rock and snagged the boy as he was going by in the swift rapids and then alex's dad came to help. i reached him and he reached me and he lacked up like the craziest look in his eye like please help me. >> then i have not only my son but my husband out there, as well. so that was -- it just -- terrifying. this is the only photo the smiths have of alex and the boy he saved. the little boy, nine years old, had been telling alex thank you.

the new exploratorium opens in san francisco in just a few days. abc7 is the official tv partner of the exploratorium. we are excited about the new location. it's at pier 15 on the embarcadero. here's abc news reporter wayne freedman with a preview. >> put a tv news reporter in front of a mirror and watch what happens, especially if it's a convex mirror reflecting back in three dimensions. >> that is really weird. >> it also reflects sound? >> yes. the same place faces blow up optically, you can whisper into each other's head. so began our tour on pier 15 in san francisco. >> also on our tour we met michael brown irrigating a blackberry bush growing on a 330-year-old tree stump in the east wing. he likes the new place. >> a lot more space and an opportunity to try things on a larger scale. >> so you were cramped in the old place? >> i would say we outgrew that space maybe about ten years ago.

>> new this morning a special benefit concert called sing fourth america take place tonight at san francisco's palace of fine arts. it is to singers what a marathon is to runners. it's a chance to raise money doing what they love. last year's inaugural benefit concert raised more than $100,000, benefiting some 40 organizations. with the help of sponsors, 100% of the funds raised tonight will go to various arts groups suffering from budget cuts. the concert starts at 7:00, and if you would like more information, you can check our website, abc7news.com under "see it on tv."

the second sunday streets event of the season takes place today in san francisco's mission district. the free event starts at 11:00 this morning along valencia street to 24th. and from 24th street on valencia to hampshire. streets will be closed to traffic so families and merchants can play and conduct business in a fun and safe environment. the food, music and family events go on until 4:00 this afternoon. >> they are out there performing. hope they can hang on. the wind is going to be blowing. >> the wind will be blowing and that makes things feel really cool. so there are microclimates even in the sunday streets parade. clear skies over the bay area. we've had some really cool temperatures this morning. a beautiful shot for you from the east bay looking out toward the bay area. it's nothing but blue out there. but the winds are going to pick up and i'll tell you a little bit about that in the middle of

my report. san francisco currently 51 degrees. oakland 56. san jose, 52 and still only 48 degrees in santa cruz. another beautiful shot for you from mt. tam. looking south towards san francisco. you see the tree tops blowing. in the last 24 hours one of the mountain tops near verness reported winds of 54 miles an hour. that gives you an idea what to expect today. napa reporting 52 and livermore 51 degrees. so definitely a cooler started to. you will notice that's going to be the trend that's going to stick around through tomorrow. here's some of the current winds report right now, as well. gusts, 26 miles an hour in half moon bay. sfo airport, windy conditions as well later on this afternoon. there are some flight arrival delays of over two hours but that's mainly due to traffic management. cooler and breezy today. a chance of rain.

more like sprinkles late tonight and tomorrow morning. cold and blustery tomorrow. temperatures will be well below normal. if you are headed to the coliseum for the a's game, grab a jacket. it will be pretty sunny and some breezes might cool you down a bit. temperatures in the low 60s for the most part throughout the game. here's a look at the pacific satellite image. this is what is causing the change in the weather. we have high pressure, low pressure. the cool air sliding south, bringing us colder temperatures. as we see a pressure gradient increase over the land and sea," we start to see the winds increase, as well. so this afternoon we could see 30 mile-an-hour winds easily along the coast, even 20 miles per hour winds in other parts of the bay area. windy condition will stay with us even into some of the overnight hours. it will relax a bit, coming down to 20 miles an hour. but tomorrow look for gusty conditions with gusts possible up to 50 miles an hour,

someone broke into the league's storage room this weekend and made off with about $1,500.00 worth of baseball equipment and other supplies. that includes umpire gear and the snack food the league would have sold to raise money. they worried two-thirds of this season's games would have to be cancelled. but the management at lefty o'doul's saw the story last night and decided to help the little leaguers. thanks, lefty o'doul for coming to the rescue. they are always doing things like that. let's get a check with the accuweather forecast. here's frances. >> all right. the weather word of the day breezy. 60s around the bay area. look for the cool down to continue tomorrow with more winds, as well. monday the cool air mass moves toward the bay area. then sunny conditions all week. we climb into the 80s and then we will be warmer than average by the end of next weekend. >> all right. sounds good.

over a seven-game stretch, including friday night, kobe tried to personally back guarantee he made the lakers to the recent playoffs. he averaged 46 minutes a game trying to keep the lakers ahead of utah for the final playoff spot in the west. that crusade ended when he made a routine end, but this time heard a pop at the bottom of his left ankle. we've got unanimity that kobe will play again. but, given the seriousness of this injury, one that defeats lot of great athletes. how reasonable is it to think that kobe bryant can be anything close to the great player we saw as recently as this week? >> michael, you have to remember, 22 years ago, i announced hiv. i had to retire. but i really didn't want to. i came back to go out my way. kobe bryant, jalen, it will come back from this injury because he wants to go out his way. >> if anybody can, i
