the vehicle is described as a four door dark-colored acura. the officer is expected to survive. >> san francisco police are looking for a gunman who shot a man in the western edition. no word on the victim's condition. police say there was a report of a hit-and-run accident at the same time as the shooting. officers are investigating whether the two are connected. >> the parents of a saratoga high school student two took her life days after being sexually assaulted will speak publicly about the case. the 15-year-old audrie pott committed suicide after being sexually assaulted dug an unsupervised house party. three teens face felony charges accused of sexual assault and distributing pictures of the incident. we learn from the attorneys for the girl's family that they also will be filing a civil suit. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield will have the latest on that in a live report in about 30 minutes.

>> after a year of prep work, heavy digging begins to connect bart to the south bay. the first major project is in san jose where crews will start digging for new tracks. the route is ten miles long and will run from south fremont. the san jose bart extension is expected to be completed and opened in 2018. to avoid the construction we will go back to leyla gulen for a look at some of the routes. >> the bart extension in san jose will have alternates in place we south of the construction zone. if you want to head north, you will have to go to the expressway. capital avenue which runs parallel to 880, will help you get around the slow downs but the project will be around for some time. we have lane block averages in

place so detours and delays are to be expected. kristen and kira? >> work is underway this morning on another major bay area transportation project, on the interstate 80 rehabilitation project involving the repair and repaving of an 8 mile stretch of the highway. the work will include ramp and shoulder work and it will affect traffic in both directions. the $40 million project is expected to be completed by fall of next year. >> today in sacramento officials will hear challenges to building a new arena for the warriors in san francisco. the proposed waterfront arena on piers 30 and 32 faces stiff opposition from neighborhood and environmental groups. opponents will testify before the committee on natural resources that they want to halt legislation that favors the project and skirts environmental guidelines set by the bay conservation commission. the $1 billion plan calls forening a multipurpose arena, a

parking structure, a were showing mall, and hotel. >> the highway patrol says a chartered tour bus from the bay area was going too fast when it crashed outside of yosemite national park on saturday night. abc7 news got this graph of the crash that injured 15 passengers and a tour guide. the driver was nature injured. investigators say the bus veered off highway 41 and into a tree from an embankment. the tour group is based out of burlingame. a spokesman says that most of the passengers are from the bay area. the driver is from fremont. he told the investigators this was a steering problem. >> the push to ban plastic bags throughout all of california takes a big step forward today. state senator will have a bill that phases out the use of plastic bags by 2017. many cities and counties ban the bags.

a similar bill is moving through the state assembly. two previous attempts have been killed by lawmakers. >> a new report on the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion shows that the engineers warned pg&e years before the blast. new documents obtained by the "san francisco chronicle" shows peg slashed spending for inspection and pipeline maintenance three years before the 2010 explosion. according to the report, company engineers warned executives they were possibly endangering the public and risking fines. pg&e lawyers said that budget decisions by executives did not amount to wrongdoing. >> today, members of the community will weigh in on a controversial proposal to cut the number of liquor licenses in parts of san francisco. the community leadership alliance of san francisco is raising concerns about the high number of establishments serving liquor in the north beach and broadway neighborhoods. people living in the area say

ago. the $400 million improvement project includes widening the highway, the transportation authority board is scheduled to authorize the design portion of the project on wednesday. >> in this morning, young drivers are getting the message that distracted driving can be deadly but what could be more dangerous is driving alone. a study finds when young drivers have other people in the car they are less likely to reach for their cell phone or to not pay attention. drives between 16 and 21 were shown to be increasingly susceptible to distraction while driving alone. 95 percent of those surveyed admitted to talking on their phones while driving. they even posted to social media sites that e-mails and text, napped photos and watched videos while driving. >> there is good news this morning about summer gas prices, analysts say drivers can expect to pay less, according to a forecast by the u.s. government, prices for regular gas average $3.63 a gallon nation-wide this

mountains. mid to upper 60's for sacramento, and 73 in fresno and a pretty dangerous situation in the san ramon valley. leyla gulen? >> absolutely, busy in the east bay, and we are checking the drive along 680 southbound, bump bump traffic from signature more valley road due to a multiple vehicle crash and southbound 680 four or five cars are involved and two lanes are blocked. really a very slow drive from danville to san ramon. we also have a dump truck fire burning along eastbound 580 beyond eden canyon road but most of the traffic is moving westbound into castro valley. we will keep you updated on that. and northbound 880 at broadway, the crash is over to the shoulder and traffic is starting to alleviate. >> a group of lawmakers tomorrow will unveil their proposed

immigration bill, by florida senator rubio putting millions in the united states illegally on a 13 year path to citizenship. it would require immigrants do pass a rigorous background check and pay fines and application fees to receive a permit and would toughen border security requirements. authorities in indonesia are struggling to remove a crashed jet that went into the sea off the resort island of bali. all people on the jet survived saturday's crash when the plane slammed in the water. the jet liner remains afloat but is too heavy to plan on floating. they want to protect the delicate coral reef below. >> volscian is -- a volcano is spewing ash east of mexico city.
