petaluma to 74 in brentwood. leyla gulen? >> we have construction on the maps in the south bay if you are traveling along 237 eastbound and westbound connection to southbound 880 will be closed and that is until 6:00 a.m. caltran is out there working to repair the connection at this hour. as we take you to the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a report of an accident, a solo accident near the toll plaza at five or six, so to the center left area and that is where we will be seeing some delays from oakland to san francisco. kristen and eric? >> happening now, a big step this morning for the long planned san francisco central subway connecting the south of market to china town. the first tunnel boring machines arrived on site and abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is there. >> the first parts of the giant

tunnel boring machine arrived here shipped over from china in the last couple of weeks. a construction worker told me there is nothing "boring" about it. more pieces will arrive later. when it is assembled it will be 300' long and now comes the hard part, lowering them into a hole at the starting point for the excavation, the launch box. two of the tunnel boring machines will dig their way 1.5 miles to north beach to create the central subway project. the project could take six years to complete. >> this is an earth pressure balance machine and they have a rotating cutterhead for soft ground and we anticipate drilling into soft ground. >> working, when you work on a major construction project you

have to remember you are working with your neighbors so that is always a challenge each day. >> the part of the boring device that does all the work is called the cutterhead and when it is all up and running it can dig 40' a day, we are told that is very impressive, at least that is what a construction worker told me. total cost for the project, not cheap, $1.6 billion. >> 5:03. there are major new clues as investigators try to put together evidence in the boston marathon case. agents found a stash of fireworks not far from the shootout. now over to abc7 news reporter in washington, dc. >> good morning, authorities are now confident the suspected bomber did not have any other planned attacks but officials say they may have had plans to party in new york city.

>> the surviving suspected boston bomber this morning has gone silent. officials say dzhokhar tsarnaev agencied 16 hours of questioning but stopped talk after being charged in boston. in russia his father will travel to the united states today. his mother still refusing to accept her son's guilt. >> no, i don't. i won't. never. >> the dramatic new photos show the brothers in a gun battle with police, a shootout that left the older son, tamerlan tsarnaev, dead in the street. officials say he was on two terrorist watch lists and the system had insufficient information to raise alarms. >> we contacted the russians on three different occasions to ask for more information and nothing was forthcoming. in boston, more signs the city is trying to move obligate crowds visited memorials at the bomb site and local businesses repaired scars. 34 wounded victims are still

we saw f.b.i. agents in gear outside the city tower apartment building at 7th, and oakland police officers were also on the scene. witnesses say they raided two other apartment buildings in the complex and evacuated residents. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield will are an update from oakland the next half hour. >> this morning, oakland police and crime stepers are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the shooting death of a young mother. officers arrived at 54th around 8:45 to find the woman in her 20's dead and her toddler near. investigators say it is not clear if the child saw her mother get shot. her identity has not been released. police say they do have information about the suspect. this is oak's 31st homicide. >> investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in the east bay. the fire broke out near the yacht club before 7:00 last night and it spread to a second home as file fighters got to the

scene. there was video of firefighters working on the home and everyone inside the two burned g h out. authorities in santa cruz county arrested a man accused of exposing himself to female high school students. the sheriff deputies said he exposed himself at the high school east of santa cruz on monday and tuesday morning. authorities say the man was hiding in bushes near the school and exposed himself to girls on their way to class. he is being held in the santa cruz county jail in lieu of $50,000. san jose police will launch a new high-tech type of neighborhood watch later this morning, and the program is virtual launch through a neighborhood social networking site called next door and it will allow police to alert specific neighborhoods about crime friends or ways to protect themselves. the department will have four next door pages one citywide and one for each the three pa trillion stations. >> we saw patchy clouds but did

close to 200, jumping overnight to 194. authorities say many are still trapped and rescuers are working around-the-clock to reach them and police ordered the building to be evacuated the day before the collapse because of huge cracks that formed in the walls. that order was ignored. officials say 2,000 people were ordered to keep working. >> people living in a small next it is town will gather to honor 14 victims of the devastating fertilizer plant explosion that leveled the community. president obama and governor perry are scheduled to speak at service at baylor university this morning. the explosion wiped out most of the town of west, texas, and killed several firefighters and first responders. flags at federal building in texas were order half staff. they planned to be in texas for the dedication of former president george w. bush's presidential library. >> the dedication marks the younger president bush's

start to become less and less overnight with marine layer fading and that will on the door to the summer warmth sunday and next week. clouds are still filling in most our neighborhood through at least 9:00. by lunch the east bay valley and the santa clara valley cleared out and everyone else has clouds with flight arrival delays and by 2:00 or 3:00 we get rid of most of the clouds around the bay and the north bay and we will call it partly cloudy but the coast is cloudy so you will be the coolest. in the south bay, upper 60's if most neighborhoods and to 70 in los gatos and morgan hill and 66 in milpitas. 62 in millbrae and mid-50's along the coast and upper 50's in downtown and south san francisco and get ready for the breeze like yesterday, sausalito is 60 and petaluma is 62 and everyone else is in the mid-to-upper 60's and north bay valley with mid-50's at your beach and low-to-mid 50's along the east bay shore from 60 at

berkeley and 59 at richmond, the cool spot jumping to 68 in fremont for the warm spot, and low do mid-70's around the east bay valley of the tonight, you can see the cloud cover coming back in and temperatures in the mid-40's to around 50 again, we will get the sunshine and an hour or two quicker tomorrow so that means two to six degrees warming and we will have morning clouds on saturday but it will not last that long with temperatures near 80 inland and around 80 for the bay on sunday and near 90 inland and 60 at the coast and we will stay steady through next week. >> thanks. i will tell you about the travel times looking at cheer conditions on the freeway if we do not see crashes and not too much congestion, headed along 101 away from 380 to redwood city, coming out of san bruno at 13 minutes and 280 to san francisco, northbound, that is a quick drive and 12 minutes along 880 to go northbound from 238 to

>> in maryland fire crews are battling a mulch fire that is used to cover plants and enrich soil with lots of fuel for flames shooting as high as 50' in the air using bulldozers to smother the flames with no structures in danger but shifting winds are making the job miserable if firefighters. >> royal news this morning, two people are facing charges for publishing topless photos kate middleton. the images which the palace called a grotesque broach -- breach of privacy were snapped when they vacationed in southern france and appeared in a magazine and now the publisher and a photographer are facing criminal charges for invasion of privacy. abc7 news reporter is in london with the details coming up on "good morning america" at 7:00. that is a crime in some places. >> especially when it pertains to the royals.

and now what will happen this morning, you can see the clouds lingering as we look at downtown oakland, 59 to 68. around the coast, it will be clouds with mid-50's and sunshine inland and 74 in the east bay valley. >> if you are thinking of saving your gas we do have mass transit updates and we do not see delays. if you are hopping on bart, muni or caltrain, no delays and good conditions between the east bay to san francisco so you are in good shape. as we hook at 101 in central san rafael, we have a few extra tail lights toward 580. northbound, we do have a construction project through novato and northbound 101 from atherton to the sonoma county line. we will learn more about dramatic raids carried out by the f.b.i. and police with armored vehicles and s.w.a.t.

officers. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at oakland headquarters. >> police worked into the early morning hours and did not wrap up until 1:00 o'clock this morning and released new details . members of the f.b.i. and swat tomb served 16 narcotics and weapons-related search warrants described add high risk. one location was the city tower apartment building in oakland, and resolution democrats say they heard we grenades going off and saw several officers. they say it was confusing and chaotic. >> when i got to the lobby, there were so many police in the lobby they put me up against the wall and asked if i had guns. guns? guns? i was looking for my kid. they never told us what was going on. >> police say everyone was okay, no one was hurt in the operation and they did make several

arrests and confiscated drugs and weapons. they did not just tick to oakland they served warrants in hair, san leandro and antioch so how could crime in antioch tie together with crime in oakland? police promised they will release more information today. developing news here as investigators wrap up a light night in san jose after a car plowed into a house sending a mother and her daughter to the hospital. two teen drivers were street racing and one crashed and slammed through the front door of a home injuring the 40-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter inside. neighbored rushed in to help. >> she was lodged between the living room and kitchen with a small hole 2.5' in dam they are.

she got in. >> it is a miracle it was a perfect spot for her body in between the cabinets and a wall. the front portion of the car, the bumper three people in one car were injured with no charges filed. >> a major turn of events for investigator whose have been questioning the surviving suspect in his hospital bed. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo is in the newsroom with that. >> during questioning so far we understand dzhokhar tsarnaev has admitted to investigators he played a role in the bombing. specifically, he told them his older brother had only recently recruited him to take part in the bombing. that was before he was read the rights. the associated press reporting that zach -- dzhokhar tsarnaev stopped talking on monday, after a judge came to the hospital and read dzhokhar tsarnaev the

rights. right now, the parents are talking to the media in russia. the father says he is traveling to the united states today but he doesn't have a plane ticket and it does not appear the mother is coming. she is still denying her son's involvement in the bombing. >> i do not want to believe this was my sons. i don't believe. i don't believe. >> overnight law enforcement discovered what could be more evidence of how the bombs were built, a stash of fireworks that was emptied of the gun powder was discovered in a used clothing bin in watertown and officials believe the older brother bought fireworks that may have been used to help make the bomb. also, we hear from russian president putin this morning that he says the boston bombing proves that the west was wrong this supporting militants in chechnya. the senate will be briefed dead on the bombing.

>> bart officials will review safety protocol to better protect passengers. the "san francisco examiner" reports they will talk about new communication strategies, training programs and improving relationships with other agencies. bart is concerned about the increasing number of people who camp out in the stations as well as a lack police officers. >> there is an arrest in the vallejo shooting that ended a little league season. investigators say the 24 -year-old was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder. he and another were attending a t ballgame last wednesday and they got in an argument. police say he followed the man into the parking lot and fired at him. some bullets hit the man's car but no one was injured. parents and employers are asking the city leaders to provide police protection for the games. >> man is custody in santa clara after a tense stand off with

police in a residential neighborhood. this is video from sky 7 the scene last night. police tell abc7 news they were called out around 7:00 after shots were fired. no one was hurt. investigators say they don't know what led to the shooting. the suspect surrenders peacefully before 10:00 last night. >> in the east bay hercules is the latest bay area city to see a rash of home burglaries. the police department says 11 residential burglaries have been reported this month compared to two in april last year. they are concerned because five happened on monday between 1 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. usually burglars knock to see if anyone is home. in no one answers they go in. police think the same suspects are behind all of the burglaries focused primarily in east and southeast hercules. >> a 78-year-old woman is being treated for smoke inhalation after firefighters rescued her from her burning home.

the woman was trapped on the 10th floor balcony. cell phone video shows smoke pouring from the unit of the city towers market building after 6:00 yesterday. the woman screamed for help from the balcony and firefighters quickly put a ladder to the balcony to carry her down nine flights of stairs to safety. >> south bay woman is recovering after her son jumped into action and saved her from a house fire. according to our media partner, the fire broke out last night in south san jose in the bedroom of the house. the woman was smoking in bed when the fire started. she could not get up on her own. her son heard the smoke alarm and came to her rescue. >> happening now, the first part of the new tunnel boring machines for the central subway construction project are being lowered into place below 4th street this morning. the two tunnel boring machines

will be assembled piece by piece and they will take aim at this wall and excavate their way 1.5 miles beyond china town for the new subway. the municipal trash photo show the machines with a cutting head 20' in diameter. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard will have more next half hour on the drills. >> the weather has been a roller coaster ride. >> and it will be a slow, click, click, click, roller coaster ride to the top. >> we will hang to the top early next week well above average but today we are down at bottom. we have done, or we have descended into the depth of this cooling trend today. it is not that foggy but cloudy. clouds are up to 3,000' and it

will be hard to get rid of the clouds and they will be stubborn because of the thickness of the marine layer. off to a great start, mid-40's to upper 40's at 7:00 and we will stay in the 50's at the coast, no getting out of it, in the low-to-mid 60's by noon with increasing sunshine by 4:00 and the clouds will thicken as we head toward 7:00. if you are planning your day around 4:00 we will have the most sunshine and mid-60's to mid-70's. the weekend shows baby steps tomorrow and saturday but upper 80's if sunday, near 80 around the bay and 60 at the coast. >> the san francisco drive coming from daly city along 280, looking at speeds out there, a little bit of a slow down headed in the southbound direction and if you are headed along 101, that drive is nice and clear as you make it into the city as we take a jump down to san jose we

all four ex-presidents and president obama, all five, will be there this morning for the opening. >> new developments in a volatile situation unfolding in alabama this morning after a string of dangerous barge explosions. look at this, one explosion on mobile bay was caught on camera. we just learned in the past few minutes firefighters have put out a huge fire triggered by the explosions almost 11 hours ago, and at least three people are in critical condition this morning, and the barges were said to be empty when the first exploded. investigators are saying little but it now appears to be some sort of accident. ships are still not being let in the area and a no-fly zone remains in affect. >> frightening video from china that plays out driver's worst fears. this truck bears down on a freeway tollbooth and it looks as though the driver does not try to stop or swerve and the passenger in the drunk was severely injured. the driver was just bruised. the tollbooth was crushed.

no one was in it. no word on why the driver did not slow down. >> major effort to clean up bay area highways will get underway. c.h.p. is joining forces for clean up and enforcement day. starting at 9:00, the crews will pick up trash on 101 in san francisco, 280 in san jose, and highway 92 in hayward to name a few. the c.h.p. will look for drivers who toss liter from the cars. during the event last year crews collected the equivalent of 10,000 garbage trucks of trash. >> love is in the air. virgin america airlines hopes the new inflight love connection will be taking off. virgin america airlines founder branson is promoting the idea, providing photos of how it is supposed to work. passengers can use the screen in front of them to find a seat number of a love interest.
