>> katie: good morning to you all. it's 8:00 a.m. i'm katie marzullo. quick first look at the weather. here is lisa argen. good morning to you. the next hour or two. fog will clear and mostly sunny condition in oakland with highs to mid-60s to upper 70s. a warmup with 60 at our coast to mid-60s. even our cost. mostly sunny by the afternoon but still with the onshore flow and numbers inland today, near 70 to the lower 80s. that takes us above normal. today is not the warmest day of the weekend. i'll talk about that and return to the 90-degree heat that is coming up quickly right behind

us. we'll show it to you in next few minutes. >> katie: developing news in contra costa county, pittsburg police are using tracking dogs what i girl was abducted. the man grabbed the girl in broad daylight and released her and ran away. alan wang police fear may try it again. >> police officers comforted the distraught mother. earlier she saw a man snatch her two-year-old daughter from her front yard. it happened just before 2:00 p.m. in pittsburg. >> the way the suspect approached the residence, he would not have seen anybody else other than the two-year-old. >> the toddler's mother was just ten feet away but hidden by the family car. just as the suspect grabbed the child and ran, he realized her mom was right there. >> the mother was also in the front yard, begin giving chase to the suspect, yelling at him. also threatening she was going to call the pole.

this, we believe, frightened our suspect and he dropped the two-year-old in the bushes and fled on foot. >> child's father came home found police with search dogs combing the area. they have three children. >> that family is such a sweet family. they always have adult supervision. this is unheard of. this is unbelievable. >> a guy like this walking around, yeah, i would love to catch him. >> two-year-old girl was not physically hurt. the suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, clean-shaven with collar length dirty blonde hair. he was wearing a green shirt and blue jeans. if you think you know who this person is, call the tip line number. biggest concern he will try to kidnap another child. >> katie: new this morning, oakland police are investigating

a triple shooting that killed one person and sent two others to the hospital. it happened around 9:30 last night near 53rd and dover streets one block from children's hospital. its block away from 21-year-old person was shot and killed on wednesday night right in front of her four-year-old son. police are not saying what motivated the latest shooting. so far they have not made any arrests. >> we have developing news this morning, in the investigation into a boston bombings. f.b.i. bomb experts have reconstructed one of devices that exploded at the marathon. there are reports that it was likely triggered by a toy car remote control, cellphone theory is is off the table now. also government officials say the mother of the two suspects was put on the federal terrorism database 18 months ago. moscow wleartd the c.i.a. in 2011 that she and her eldest son were religious militants about to travel to russia.

she has denied any connection to terrorism. also just in, a man both of his legs blown off he saw tamerlan in the crowd and he stood out because he was so serious. >> i was having a great time. just that one guy, he didn't look like he was having a good time. >> he was the first give authorities a description of the suspect despite his horrific wounds. >> also the bullet riddled boat where dzhokar tsarnaev was found hiding after the shooting, has been towed through neighborhood streets to a secure location. volunteers will be hosting two fund-raisers this weekend for 11-year-old aaron hearn who was wounded in the bombings. today a pizza store will donate a portion to the family. you'll find details on the events at abc7news.com under see

it on tv. a piece of an airplane believed to be in the 9/11 attacks in new york city has been found three blocks from ground zero. they found part of the landing gear jammed between two buildings on wednesday. authorities are not ruling out the chance it was place there had by someone. one of the buildings holds a controversial islamic prayer center. the discovery is being treated as a crime scene for now. this morning, a red rdwood city man is still on the run after escaping from a san francisco's sheriff's car. he was arrested thursday night accused of assaulting his girlfriend. while deputies were investigating, he got out of the car and ran away. because he told family members he would not go back to jail, authorities consider him dangerous. he may be driving a silver 1991 acura with the license plate you see on the screen.

two people remain in critical condition this morning after a deadly crash in oakland. it happened about 3:45 yesterday afternoon on highway 13 near the lincoln overpass. the driver lost control flipping the suv several times. sky7hd shows the suv backwards in the southbound lanes. one person was killed. four more were injured and the crash caused heavy delays during the late afternoon commute. demonstrators in petaluma are calling for caltrans to tear down the bird nets they installed at lakeville highway. nets are supposed to keep migrating swallows from nesting at a construction project but they ended up killing many of them. workers have since modified the nets but protestors tell sergio quintana they continue to be death traps for the federally protected birds. >> take down the nets! >> about 20 people gathered near the freeway overpass against the series of nets installed under

the bridges. >> i don't see why birds have to keep flying they should take the nets down. >> as we reported, the nets are supposed to keep swallows from nesting. caltrans acknowledged that some birds were dying. >> the adjustments haven't been effective. they continue to be die and entangled. >> according to caltrans they have adjusted two nets and working closely with state and federal officials to fix any other problem. most evenings these birds return to these bridges and try and build their homes because it's the height of their nesting season. we noticed one bird caught in the net go, demonstrators a different material should have been used on this project. >> it would be plastic sheeting that would be flush with the structure and prevents the mud from adhering. >> biologists were on site to monitor the birds.

happen where you can't take action. >> chris owns a san rafael gun store. here families are a taught how to safely handle guns and stay safe in an emergency. >> since then, we heard in the first quarter of 2013 we have seen a 20% increase in the number of folks that have come into the training program. those folks i would say at least 25% of them have had some questions about how to better protect their young ones at school. >> jacob says parents are asking about bulletproof backpacks? >> we have to sort of work with the parents and educate ourselves about what their specific situation is and try to provide options and solutions for that specific situation. bulletproof backpacks are not sold widely in stores the in fact to get one, you have to look online. prices range from $200 to $300 and they weigh around three pounds. dan larson thinks anything to help keys them safe is a good

defibrillators after a player's heart stopped after getting struck in the pitch. they jumped in and used cpr to keep matthew henry until an ambulance arrived. matthew is now recovering. the santa rosa press democrat reports that several also leagues reports that they are already started buying them. lisa argen is keeping track of the forecast which is going to get better. >> if you like the warmer weather, things are going your way. especially for the latter half of the weekend but even today we are warming up. plenty of things going on across the bay today. here is a look at live doppler 7-hd where we're not picking up anything in the form of precipitation. we're going to stay dry and not only that, a warming trend begins today. temperatures in san jose beginning to brighten up. everybody has a blanket of low

clouds and fog. san francisco, 48. mountain view, 48. santa cruz, 51. here is a look at mount tam where you can see all the gray, much of the north bay and fact some fog in napa. we've had haze in santa rosa. it's getting sunnier in concord. 52, union city. we are talking about a sunny and warmer weekend. within the next hour, we will break out into more sunshine in our east bay and south bay. the coast will lag behind. we'll look for warmer conditions today. warmest day of the weekend will be tomorrow and then 90-degree heat on the horizon for monday. in fact several days next week. inland east bay will be in the 90s. 24-hour temperature change. cooler, low clouds and fog, 2-3 degrees cooler from napa to the airport and san jose and livermor

you are right, if you are thinking it felt cool this morning. here is a look what is going to happen in livermore in the days ahead. tomorrow once again in the mid-80s but take a look at monday, tuesday where 90-degree heat returns. then the coolest dates will be the end of the workweek. in fact, mid-80s with the sea breeze reaching our inland east bay by late on thursday. high pressure is still off the coast. it's keeping the storm track to the snorted but continues to build a little closer to the golden state. that allows for warmer days. today should be pleasant around the bay with temperatures in the south bay touching about 80 for san jose. upper 70s closer to sunnyvale. peninsula numbers, mid and upper 70s. 75 in the city and cool with the onshore flow from pacifica to the sunset district. mid-60s downtown and up in the north bay look for about 80, santa rosa. near east bay, low 70s today.

that is about 4:00 when we reach the expected high temperatures. 77 in fremont. inland east bay, talking about more 80s here. pleasanton, 81. we're warming up mostly tomorrow and return to some more 80s that will stay around the bay consistently right through the middle of the week. warmer inland east bay. low 90s and cooling trend thursday and friday. to dress as they head out today. thank you, lisa. >> a south bay starbucks has called in pest control that has to handle an infestation of bedbugs. >> i have never seen a bedbug infestation in a restaurant. >> she is with the santa clara of environmental holds. they received a complaint about bedbugs in furniture at starbucks. they confirmed that specimen received it was a bedbug. starbucks has been pro-active since it learned of the infestation. >> they brought the pest control company in, they have had several treatments and no evidence that it could be found that bedbugs are currently there. >> customer mike healy isn't concerned. >> i think they removed what they call all the soft

treading water eight miles from shore. they lost sight of the captain as the swell separated the group. they did the only thing they could is start swimming to shore. it was grueling 14 hours. >> you see land and started swimming. it was just as we swam but we had the wind behind us and used it as a gauge for direction. >> katie: you see some of the scarring left from being rubbed by a life jacket in salt water. they made it to a beach and spent the night eating mangoes and bananas. they spotted a farmer and they learned the captain and first mated were also rescued after 23 hours in the hour. >> it's been a big switch with

electronic tolling at golden gate bridge. any confusion seemed to have ironed itself out and perhaps too well. here is transportation reporter heather ishimaru. >> they zipped along as the $6 toll is paid through license plate accounts, one time payments or you pai bill you get in the mail and pay like any other bill. >> this project has been amazingly successful. it has exceeded our expectation. we do see traffic is moving more smoothly. >> they worried when human tolltakers vanished the uninformed would stop anyway but those indiana weighed time. fastrak usage of last year was just below 70% jumping to 891% this year. license plate acts went from zero to 3900 in march and one time payments from four to 3400.

enforcement will begin they are not saying but they do say they have a date in mind. >> katie: new this morning, san francisco's eighth utilityalk against rape to raise awareness takes place today. 11:00 event put on by women against rape covers a three and a half mile course from 18th street from the mission district to potrero park. funds raised will provide a safe place for survivors of sexual violence to heal. organizers say more importantly it makes a statement that sexual violence won't be tolerated. it culminates with a festival in the park at 1:00. >> today is the day to turn in unneeded prescription drugs. it's the sixth annual national prescription take back day. most state and local police stations will be accepting prescription drugs. you can drop them off with no questions asked. the idea is to get them out of

getting warmed up. all 3,000 of the people who are expected to come out to walk today. official march for dimes march for babies starts at 9:00. it was about 30 minutes from now. if you are no in the city there is march in pleasanton and san jose today. it's happening all across the u.s. right now. people are marching for babies. some people raised hundreds of dollars. some people raised thousands. since the walk begin in 1970 people have raised more than $2.5 billion. that money funds programs and research to help mothers to have healthy full term pregnancies. it helps to improve the health of babies born in our country. that means everything to one woman i met today. >> my son was premature. he came along seven weeks early. when he was born he weighed three pounds, nine ounces. now, he is a strong healthy

beginning to take hold. they passed a temporary fix, putting furloughed air traffic controllers back on the job. the president said deficits are shrinking and jobs are being created but congress knees to do more to help working middle-class families. >> there is one way to help fix the sequester. couple weeks ago i put forward, tax codes to close loopholes and invest in things like education, research and manufacturing that will create new jobs right now. so i hope members of congress will find the same sense of urgency and bipartisan cooperation to help the families still in the crosshairs of these cuts. >> katie: republican response by pennsylvania congressman says the faa could have made other cuts rather than furlough air traffic controllers. g.o.p. contends president obama

after five years of declining home values, bay area housing market is finally coming back. take a look at this map compiled by zillo. the areas in red, they are still hurting. home prices as much as 66% lower than peak values but a strong come back in the green zone. san francisco, parts of the peninsula, like san carlos and palo alto and areas of the south bay such as los gatos. laura anthony with more. >> this three bedroom home is about to go on the market. don't expect it to stay there very long. if recent activity is any indication, this house will sell fast and well over the asking price. >> this house here, it's like 975. we're expecting they will receive numerous offers. >> this house could go over a million. >> san mateo county is among the

hottest real estate markets, not just on rebound but prices like belmont, san mateo and san carlos are hitting new highs. >> the inventory is very down so less inventory, more people wanting to live here and people are willing to spend the money to be on the peninsula. >> that means stiff competition for buyers, even those that are well qualified with plenty of cash are getting beat out. >> all the high end buyers in los altos. there were 30 offers on the property. 20 of them were over two million. all cash buyers is about $2.2 million. >> the boom isn't happening everywhere. some houses are still languishing. at values more than 50% below their peak. >> i feel good about mine. >> but for belmont owner, the

at 52. here is a look at forecast then. we got a warmer weekend on tap starting with today. finishing tomorrow with temperatures climbing even more so anywhere from 2-35 degrees warmer and then by monday. we're talking temperatures near 90 in inland east bay. low clouds and fog peeling back. speaking of the east bay, here is how warm we're going to get. tomorrow in the mid-80s. we'll be looking at another five degrees of warmth but wednesday and thursday where it's going to get quite hot and cooling trend is the latter part of the workweek. speaking of 90s, sacramento and fresno 93 at our coast.
