>> good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us on this sunday, may 5th. let's start with a look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi, everyone. cooler and windy. a wind advisory for the coast and also through the santa cruz mountains. winds have been gusting anywhere from 25 to 35 miles an hour. that's the sustained wind. they have been gusting up to 45 and 50 miles an hour. so drive carefully. we are looking at the cloud cover now. it should thin out throughout the afternoon, but definitely much, much cooler. we managed a couple of 90s yesterday. today not only the cloud cover, reports of sprinkles along the

coast. also in the north bay. we will see temperatures mainly in the 60s and 70s. the warmest locks or east bay. we will see highs just about 75 concord and livermore in the south bay look for around 70 in san jose. only 60s downtown. i'll tell you when the best chance of rain comes into lay and when we will warm up. it will take quite some time. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. this morning investigators are hoping four women who escaped a burning limousine on the san mateo bridge last night can offer key information on the fire that killed five of their friends. abc7 news reporter kira klapper joins us live near the bridge with the latest details, kira, on a horrific fire. >> that's right, carolyn, horrific indeed. the four women who you mentioned escaped the burning limo are this morning in the hospital being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. understandably when they were rushing and escaping, they weren't to provide clarity to the officers about what

happened. but the chp tells me this morning they are confident the women will be key in helping them glean information about the fire last night. these are photos by someone driving by the white stretch limo on fire. clearly it's on fire in the back of the limo. and sky 7hd shows the scene of the wreckage. it was after ten last night when they were carrying nine women from alameda to foster city. smoke started coming out of the back of the limo. driver quickly pulled over. as he got out to see what was happening, the smoke turned into flames. he was able to escape four of the passengers also escaped, but five women were trapped inside and killed. the chp tells abc7 news what happened right before those women lost their lives inside the limo. >> the driver was able to get out. good samaritans did stop and assist and try to pull people from the fire.

but it was a situation -- we have no idea what actually happened. everything is still under investigation. >> all the women survivors and victims included were in their 30s and 40s. the four survivors were taken to stanford hospital and valley medical center in san jose. again, for smoke inhalation and burns. the driver was not injured. the chp tells me he is investigating with investigators. they let him go home and get some rest. they will likely be questioning him, as with the victims over the next few days to piece together how the deadly fire happened. reporting on the san mateo bridge, kira klapper, abc7 news. >> and no official identification yet. we continue to following developing news in san francisco where firefighters are looking for the cause of a raging predawn house fire on pressure island that. fire broke out just before 4:00 this morning at a home on surgeon street. one person inside managed to get outside okay, but firefighters say a cat did not make it.

police and fire investigators are looking into how that fire started and how it spread so quickly. a 30-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after being shot in east palo alto last night. it happened shortly after nine on cooley avenue. the victim found on the street. police have been going door to door trying to gather information. so far there are no suspects or motive. antioch police are investigating the shooting death of a man in front of a hotel early yesterday morning. police respond today a 911 call and found a 38-year-old man on east 18th street. he had been shot numerous times. anyone with information is being urged to give detectives a call. in southern california that massive spring fire is expected to be fully contained by tomorrow. an area roughly the size of san francisco, 43 square miles, has already been burned by the wildfire in camarillo. it is now 60% contained at

28,000 acres. more than 2,000 firefighters remain on the lines, including several strike teams from here in the bay area. yesterday one of them suffered a serious head injury when he slipped and fell while fighting the fire. it's steep country. it hasn't burned in a long time. get a little water on the hillside, it gets slick. it's very tough going. some of our crews were operating with a five hour walk-in just to get to the fire line. >> the crews are making good progress now, putting out small flareups while helicopter crews battle the hotspots. all evacuation orders have been lifted so it appears the worst is now over. 15 homes and 5 businesses are damaged. 25 outbuildings were destroyed by that fire. a home in napa county, the owner sent us these pictures to show us how close the fire came to his property, a grass fire.

it was brought completely under control by firefighters. at least two homes were damaged but nothing was damaged. a homeowner was mowing and hit a rock and caused a spark that caused the fire. and 15 mile-an-hour winds did not stop crews from swift willing putting out a four acre grass fire. it closed the closer of an eastbound lane on highway 80 for a brief time. no injuries have been reported. back in the bay area a fire in san ramon destroyed one house and damaged another yesterday afternoon. as abc7 news reporter lisa tells us, firefighters there are still looking for a cause. >> did you see that? >> just about everyone on lexington place in san ramon saw this house burst into flames. huge plumes of smoke billowed out of the house. they could be seen for miles. that's where julia hall was when she spotted the smoke. and i said is it our house? they said yeah. the house she spent 25 years in was burning, quickly disappearing before her eyes.

as if that wasn't enough, the fire spread from her home to her neighbor's house. >> it appears that the fire started in the carport between the two houses, ran up the side of the house and then got into the attic of both house. >> her neighbor, who is on vacation, only had damage to the garage and attic. the brunt of the fire was focused here. at one point the house was so unstable firefighters were forced to pull out of it. they worried it could collapse. >> the attic space caught fire, and there was a series of explosions. i think the tires on the vehicle were popping. i think the windows on the house blew out. so it was pretty intense for a while. >> crews were fighting the fire from above, but they couldn't stop it. >> this is all that could be saved. >> i'm a diabetic. he saved my insulin, my needles and test strips. >> she quickly remembers what was lost. >> my parents just passed away

in the last few years and left me a lot of family memorabilia from 1642 on, and it's all gone. >> no one was hurt in the fire and no one had to be evacuated the firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to any more homes. abc7 news. >> coming up, today's cinco de mayo. the push to keep this year's celebration safe. and cell phone robberies, a growing problem in san francisco. what the d. a. says cell phone companies should be doing

>> welcome back, everyone. it's 9:12 on this cinco de mayo sunday. thanks for joining us. we have a live look from our exploratorium cam, showinga bit of the san francisco skyline. if you were enjoying that hot weather last week, you will have to make do with much cooler this week. windy, too. lisa argen will be here shortly with the full accuweather forecast. >> san francisco district attorney george gascon is calling on telephone companies to create new phone technology that takes away any incentive to steal smartphones.

it's not just a big crime problem in the bay area, there's a nationwide epidemic of cell phone robberies and thefts. the devices are selling like hot cakes in certain overseas black markets, so he wants phone companies to include a kill switch that would render the phones useless if stolen. more than 175 million smartphones were sold last year. and more than one in three robberies nationwide involves a mobile phone. starting in the fall there will be a data base to track cell phone thefts. [explosions] >> shocking video just released. a gunman jumping out of his car and unloading fire on two police officers on a traffic stop. the incident that happened last march was caught on the cruiser's dashcam raw. the gunman fired off 33 rounds from the assault rifle before the two injured officers returned fire, killing him.

they say they found inside his car more ammunition, a ski mask and gloves, and instructional dvds and books on how to make explosives. happy cinco de mayo. it's one of the biggest celebrations anywhere that take place in san jose. each year about includes food venders, activists, dancers all in the park. there's no city sponsorship this year because of budget constraints, but private sponsors have stepped up to make sure there is still a traditional downtown parade and other festivities that attracts about 350,000 people each year. there is stepped up traffic control for the huge crowds. they typically turnout downtown and in east san jose. while the vast majority of people enjoy a save celebration, police will add extra patrols to make sure it says that way for everyone. they will also be conducting

gang suppression with patrol officers and probation agents. downtown is going to be more congested this year than usual because the sharks have a playoff game at 7:00 at hp pavilion. milder weather for all those folks in san jose today. >> yeah, or cooler u can lighten up on the sun block, that's for sure. clouds around and wind advisory for parts of the bay area. it's gusting to over 40 miles an hour in parts of the north bay. the wind advisory is along the coast. i'll tell you how windy it will get and when we can see some rain coming up. >> also next the warriors prepare for the next round of the playoffs. we will tell you what the team is doing before tomorrow night's game in the hopes of a future move to san francisco.

>> several passengers and crew aboard a cruiseliner that docked in san francisco yesterday had to be quarantined after a suspected noro virus outbreak. 30 passengers and 8 crewmembers on board the crystal symphony started feeling symptoms of that stomach illness after leaving british columbia on tuesday. a spokesperson said all of them were kept on board while the ship made it's call in san francisco. the vessel left yesterday afternoon, bound for santa barbara. new this morning the golden

state warriors plan to release an updated design of their proposed arena on the san francisco waterfront. take a look at the artist's conception we are already familiar with. the proposed $1 billion arena project would be built on the site of an aging parking lot where pier 30 used to be. this morning at 11:00 the warriors plan to unveil a revised's plan that will go before a city hall hearing for scrutiny tomorrow. >> tomorrow the warriors tip off against the spurs. the warriors have lost 29 games in a war at that arena. a limited number of tickets go on sale to the general public tuesday morning at 10:00. for sports now, tonight the sharks play the vancouver canucks in game three of the playoff series tonight. san jose won the first two games of the best-of-seven series. at 5:00 p.m. a sharks rally will

be held across from hp pavilion ahead of the game, which starts at 7:00. again, lisa, we are telling people because of cinco de mayo and the thousands and thousands of people expected in downtown san jose, plan ahead. avoid the congestion. >> good advice. >> if you can. >> right. and also bring the jacket. although some people might like the switch from the very hot temperatures and the records to the cool-down for the runners and biker, perhaps. a lot of events going on around the bay today. log this is the 7hd. we picked up a few hundreds from the coast. not out of the question to see drizzle and mist right on through the afternoon. this is mt. tam. you see the wind, the gray sky and the moisture on the lens. certainly the higher elevations really feeling the brunt of the unstable atmosphere. 59 in san francisco. but we are managing some low

60s from san carlos to san jose right now. 55 in half moon bay with santa cruz at 59. here is a gray look out over the city from our sutro camera. it does kind of look threatening, but we are looking at some peaks of sun throughout the day today. we will call it partly cloudy in the next several days, but each and every day through the middle of the week we could see a sprinkle here and there. 59 livermore and union city. here are some wind gusts, 43 miles an hour at woodacre. 29 mile-an-hour gusts around the south bay from san jose to mountain view, and we are looking at a 40 mile-an-hour wind gust on top of mt. diablo. the wind advisory certainly warranted. it is for the coast and down through the santa cruz mountains, but pretty much everywhere anyone is feeling the breezy conditions and keeping the atmosphere a little unstable and feeling cooler than the actual air temperatures, which will continue to come down from yesterday. cool and breezy with the wind advisory at the coast and south

through 9:00 tonight. a chance of showers, maybe sprinkles today. better chance tomorrow right on through wednesday as this upper level low kind of sits over the area. 24 hour temperature change. look how much cooler it is from five degrees to nearly eighteen degrees with gusty winds toward the delta. there is the low as it continues to sit it will pull moisture up from the south. we are taking you through the rest of the afternoon tomorrow where we get the better chance of rain through the evening hours. you can see the shower activity along the sierra and the sacramento valley. we are looking at numbers just in the 60s and 70s today. loss gat toe, partly cloudy and breezily. 70 redwood cities and upper 60s on the coast. in the north bay low 70s. if you are lucky, more like upper 60s. 69 in oakland and out over the hills we've seen partly cloudy skies and 70s. that will be a push. tonight just in the 60s with

>> rock n' roll legends the rolling stones are coming to the bay area tonight. they kicked off their tour in l.a., performing for a third generation of fans. tonight they will be at the oracle arena in oakland, then they travel to san jose at the h.p. pavilion for a show on wednesday. about 1,000 l.a. fans got lucky when promoter a.e.g. found room to add more seats at the last minute.
