kristen and eric? >> this morning at 10:00, the highway patrol is expected to update us on the deadly limousine fire that left a new braid and four friends dead on the san mateo bridge. we hear from the limo drivers who points to a possible misunderstanding. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard joins from foster city. >> the driver of the white stretch says the fire that killed five of the passengers began with a lot of confusion on the san mateo bridge on saturday night. the driver orville brown says passengers start the banging on the glass partition saying "smoke, smoke" and he misunderstood thinking they were asking if they could smoke cigarettes. moments later the limo was on fire. he tells the chronicle this morning that there were so many flames in 90 seconds the scar was -- car was fully engulfed. video shows how intense the fire was. four women survived, including

the driver, but the new bride did not. her friends cannot believe she is gone. >> she was a nice person. friendly. so just...a wonderful soul. >> 31-year-old pride pride was recent -- the 31-year-old neriza fojas was recently married and on the way to a foster city hotel where her news husband was waiting. she mayoror never made it. we hope to learn more how the fire happened from c.h.p. later this morning. >> the brother and sister who shot the cell phone video say they had no idea how bad, how tragic the fire was. the siblings did not think anyone was inside, it wasn't until they much wad the news on

two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. two cars were burned. several melted. about 200 people live in the complex and were evacuated and getting word, now, the san jose fire officials say a firefighter had to go to the hospital for medical issue that came up after putting out the blaze. we will keep our eye and continue to work the story for you. >> two san francisco pg&e workers are recovering from burns when a transformer failed. look at this home video. >> [blank] >> that flash hurt the workers as they repaired the transformer and severely damaged the equipment and caused a power failure yesterday afternoon in the bayview area. an employ i suffered serious burns and 2,600 were affected by the outage. >> the san francisco giants are digging into their pockets not

to pay their big stars but to pay clubhouse attendants and other workers. the team has agreed to cough up $700,000 in back pay and penalties after a federal audit shows the team salary practices to be improper. the giants paid support workers a flat rate, $55 a game, for bat boys but state and federal law require an hourly rate. >> the warriors take on the spurs tonight in san antonio in the second-round playoffs. in the bay area san francisco officials are getting ready to take a close look at the proposed waterfront arena. abc7 news amy hollyfield joins from piers 30 and 32, the scene of the arena. >> this is where the team wants to build, the architect is now come up with a revised land to try and keep opponents happy. the new plan would scoot the arena back further away from the

water so they could build a park around it and they are calling for fewer packing spaces than before with the idea to keep a significant amount of pier space open and accessible. they are also trying to have a minimum impact on waterfront views. reducing the bulk of the building so the impact is lessened, we are very interested in providing more meaningful access to the promise nod and the pier to promote more outdoor activists. >> the players right now are thinking of the game, not the new arena, right now, the watt yours are in san antonio for the first game of the second round of layoffs playing the spurs tonight but at home there will be a hearing set for this afternoon to take a look at the new revised land, a committee from the board of supervisors looking at it and the team is hoping to play here in san francisco in the new arena in 20 17.

>> covering san rafael, south bay, pleasanton, and all bay area, this is abc7 news. >> good morning monday morning at 6:13. a beautiful golden gate bridge shot as seen from the sutro to youer camera. it is cloudy. we will have a cooler day and a cooler week. we will check with meteorologist mike nicco and the chance for showers. >> now the southern california wildfire that charred 28,000 acres. today, firefighters are expected to fully contain the springs fire. the fire started last week and quickly spread. crews are now creating a -- whether, crediting the weather for getting it contained.

arrest son was ruled out. 15 homes have been damaged by the flames. at one point, 4,000 homes were threatened. >> a 17-year-old soccer player could soon face new charges after the referee he punched in the face, died. the 46-year-old portillo called a "foul" on the goalie over the weekend and the player sucker punched him in the face when he wasn't looking. the father of three died on saturday after a week in a coma. the teen is in juvenile detention and authorities are trying to decide whether to file homicide charges. >> the senate will pass a bill to make it easier for states to collect sales tax for online prepares. 45 states have requested but retailers do not charge it and consumes do not pay it. some of the largest onbehind retailers are rejoicing but not everyone is in favor of the idea. small business owners worry they will be swamped with new restrictions that could vary

from state to state. california is one of a few states that began requiring online retailers to collect sales tax last year. >> congresswoman gabrielle giffords is the recipient of the "profile in courage award." they received the honor yesterday at the john f. kennedy library in boston for her push to work reforms aimed at reducing gun violence. gabrielle giffords was seriously wounded in a 2011 shooting when a lone gunman opened fire at an arizona shopping mall. she was the congresswoman at the time. caroline kennedy presented the awards to gabrielle giffords. >> president obama is daring the class of 2013 to do better delivering the commencement address at ohio state university in columbus, an upbeat speech and asked graduates to honor community responsibilities and referenced his own record and cited the improving economy. >> where we are going should give you hope because while

showers off the coast, more showers in the sierra, and spilling toward the sacramento rotating away from the high country. we will watch all of that right now. if you are headed to san francisco, 58 in the ferry building and to the south in the mission district, 55 in the upper market and glen park, and 52 in sunny side, and christie feed, 58, and ocean beach is 57, and the temperatures are representative of what we are having across the entire bay area, and we are cooler in saratoga at 51, and 52 at palo alto and petaluma at 51, half moon bay is 52 degrees. from mount tamalpais this only you can see the clouds opening over the bay water, and i still believe scattered showers are possible today and tomorrow and sunny spots with temperatures close to average. we will have a brighter, warmer, and more dry weekend coming our way. here is the area of low pressure we talked about how it would retrograde back across california from east to west and it has done that and it is as

far west as it will get. with the rotation, the santa cruz mountains, the east bay hills, the north bay mountains, will get the scattered showers in the afternoon and early evening. overnight, quiet for the most part and maybe drizzle at the coast for the commute and tomorrow, again, cruz mountains and to the diabolo range with the best chance of a scattered shower. on tuesday morning it is moving on and everything is over. the game, specifically, we mentioned but i wanted it show you, philadelphia is in town at 7:15 dropping down to 57, and dress for the cooler weather than the possibility of a scattered showers. the seven-day forecast shows temperatures like yesterday so if you enjoyed being outside yesterday you will enjoy it today. if not, tuesday and wednesday to get through it before the sun shines starts and on thursday and by friday, we are at 80's inland and low-to-mid 70's at the bay. >> good morning, everyone, we did have an early delay along

the nc muni transit because of a medical emergency which now is cleared so muni is now running back at top speed. as we head to the toll plaza, the metering lights are on. you can see heavy traffic moving out of oakland and toward the tolls into san francisco but you are looking at a 15-minute drive from the maze to the toll plaza. as we take it over to the maze if you are driving out of berkeley and albany, the drive coming up to 580 in the westbound direction those are the tail lights and remark is funneling supportly and the eastbound commute is not looking at any delays and a check of the golden gate bridge a beautiful site with a nice clear commute coming from sausalito and to san francisco. >> cinco de mayo gets rowdy in the south bay and ahead at 6:30

but it is in the area of fairfield so well watch this. sky 7 is on way and will bring us more details. to the south, along eastbound highway four we have this crash and it sounds like one lane is still blocked but we don't have delays. the driver in san jose away from the julian off-ramp those are the headlights and traffic is smooth going. mike nicco has the forecast. >> good news, live doppler 7 hd shows it is more dry here over the bay area than over the central valley and the sierra. the storms are rotating from southeast to northwest and probably goes to the north of us. we will watch that for the north bay and watch the showers as we look offshore from the peninsula chest -- coast and 62 and mainly

the glass saying there was smoke in the area but he misunderstood and thought they were asking if they could smoke cigarettes. moments later the limousine was fully engulfed and he tells the chronicle "i wish i could have done more. it is something you never imagine will happen." video shot by a witness shows the limo on fire and how expense the -- how intensity was. we were overhead of at crash, after the five died. they were on the way to celebrate a recent marriage. a co-worker cannot believe she is gone. >> she was nice, always smiling, just worked on friday night. walk right in, so hard...on sunday morning. it is unbelievable. two co-workers...nice girls.

>> 31-year-old neriza fojas was recently married and died. she was on the way with friends in the limousine to a foster city hotel to celebrate her new husband waiting for her. c.h.p. will hold a news conference this morning at 10:00 and we hope to learn more how this fire on the san mateo bridge started. >> in the meantime we now know the names of the women who escaped the limousine fire, mary grace guardiano and nelia rafael of oakland land and amalia from san francisco, taken to valley medical center in san jose and stanford medical center if treatment. the limousine company owner tell s abc7 news that the company "will do everything possible to

reservoirs located near the home an 8-year-old murder victim. kira klapper is in the newsroom with more on the search for legally fowler's killer. >> it has been a week since legally fowler was stabbed to death in her home. investigators spent the weekend scouring the area surrounding the family house and yesterday divers from the calaveras county searched two reservoirs. also, yesterday, investigators knocked on more than 300 doors asking neighbors if they saw anything suspicious around the time she was killed. family members are being questioned but only as witnesses. as for the search of the reservoir, the sheriff will not say why they are zeroing in on the waters but it is another technique in their need for evidence. >> black water diving and searching the bottom bonds with their hands. obviously, the dark water they

cannot see where they are going so they are guided by tenders on the shore who will guide them the. >> legally fowler died two saturdays ago. on friday, the investigators took knives from the home but will not say whether they were used in her stabbing. her 12-year-old step brother found her and described her killer as being tall with long gray hair and a witness would said she also saw a man run from the neighborhood has been taken back those claims. >> it is 6:36. east palo alto police are expected to reveal more of a shooting near mcdonald's restaurant that left five people wounded. the victims include a six-year-old girl and her grandmother and it happened close to 101 at university avenue and bay road. the shooter aimed at people waiting for the bus at the curb. four victims went inside mcdonald's for helps and officers discovered other victims outside. investigators say it appears

>> we are back. we are looking at live doppler 7 hd as you can see the last three hours showers rotating toward the coast and falling apart before they get there. clouds and drizzle along the peninsula and you can see there is more developing to the south so that is what we will keep an eye on to the west. this area shaded in purple, pink, or lilac, that is a small craft advisory so it will be choppy over the ocean. from mount tamalpais temperatures are close do where they should be for this time of the year, from a degree or two. so we are around 66 in san francisco, and 72 in san jose and concord and 70 in santa rosa and 62 at half moon bay. as we move forward we will see

new york stock exchange. >> gas prices in the bay still are much higherren that the rest of the country but they are lower than this time last year. $4.02 a gallon for regular according to aaa, a couple cents lower than last week and 28 cents lower than a year ago. now the nation-wide average has people paying only $3.52 a gallon on the average nationwide. the dow closed at a record high on friday and we traded above 15000 briefly the first time we have been above that. this morning is mixed and quieter. the silicon valley index is trading higher this morning. youtube could launch pay channel subscriptions this week is a platform for some of the special video channels you would have to pay if. the financial times is reporting 50 channels could be involved in this. the cost would be $2 a month per

saratoga is 54, and 54 in sunnyvale and most of us are in the 50's this morning. brentwood is warmer at 60. novato is at 49, a bit cooler. beautiful picture from the exploritorium looking bat at the ferry building to downtown san francisco another gorgeous site. now, in this forecast cycle, scattered showers are forecast, and we will see sun, and temperatures are close to average and brighter and warmer weekend. here is what will happen, low pressure here is off to our west and spinning counterclockwise and the higher terrain will have the best chance of rain and a clap of thunder. diabolo rain and santa cruz mountains and into the north bay mountains in the afternoon, and overnight it quiets considerably and clouds open just a little bit but we wake up to the same

conditions and as the low passes us to the south, it is the santa cruz mountains and diabolo range that has the best chance of any wet weather. tuesday evening the low is gone and so is our chance of precipitation. if you look at a coating, most of us below .1", and around mount hamilton we could get more measurable rain. seven-day forecast shows temperatures are the same tuesday and wednesday but you will not more sunshine on wednesday and the temperatures will start to spend to that sunlight on thursday and over the weekend where we hit the low 80's inland and low-to-mid 70's around the bay and low 60's at the coast. have a great day. >> unless you are sharing the ride you are sitting in stop-and-go traffic along 280. the far left lane is coming away from 17 headed to cupertino the car pool lane is moving smoothly. as we move to cupertino, and

head into the east bay we have a report of a crash out here with a car that hit the center divide, and this is along westbound highway 24 at college avenue and it is blocking a lane and we are seeing two miles of backup coming away from 13 so the drive to claremont will be sluggish and the drive time traffic, 101 to the airport, short 12 minutes and 101 from highway 37 to san rafael is under ten minutes and the east bay, 880 from hayward to the south bay freeway is 27-minute drive. >> ahead, five things to know before you go. >> the morning news
