>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> you are hearing it for the first time right here on abc7 news the name of the new 49ers stadium in santa clara became official. it will be called levy stadium home of the san francisco 49ers. we will have details in a few minutes in a news conference just getting underway. >> good morning. first, we have developing news in oakland. firefighters are demanding better crime protection after a fire station came under gunfire. this picture tweeted by the oakland fire department shows

windows shot up at a fire station, fire station 17, close to the scene of a fatal shooting. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at oakland police headquarters. amy? >> the firefighters at station 18 in oakland just returned from a fire, had just parked their truck in the garage when suddenly they had to duck under the truck to avoid being hit by gunfire. >> they dove under the fire engine with firefighters diving under the desk and upstairs they could hear the bullets zinging by. >> they hit two window panes coming from a murder on melrose avenue where a 19-year-old was killed attending a vigil before 9:00 last night. >> no firefighters were injured and the only thing damaged was the door so we are fortunate.

>> it is a sad commentary on state of crime in oakland when the firefighters are not safe in the firehouse. what we do is help people and we put our live on the 39 but the firehouse is our safe haven. >> the union president says fire stations is been shot up before. the problem is so bad at station 23 they are working on making it safer. >> i have had incidents with bullets coming through the dining area into the kitchen area so we are trying to get them to mutt a safety wall for lack of a better explanation rather than just plants protect the firehouse. >> that was amy hollyfield reporting. law enforcement expert will release his recommendations in the next couple of hours. what do the others do? part of the report will be

zeroing in onries and burglaries with oakland with the highest robbery rate in the unlast year. oakland is paying $250,000 for the report. >> surprise announcement right now to officially unveil the name of the new 49ers stadium. a news conference is underway at levy plaza in san francisco. abc7 news reporter is there. >> they are calling it a perfect fit, levi strauss and san francisco 49ers teaming up for the new stadium. the 49ers' new home is going to be called levi stadium. the facility is now under construction and it is scheduled to open in time for the football season next year, 2014. terms of the naming rights deal which they are announcing in this press conference, $220 million over 20 years. that will certainly help defray the owners' $1.2 billion cost of building the state-of-the-art

facility. levi is san francisco's oldest company with roots going back to the gold rush when they out fitted miners in 1849. now, the brand is heading south. back here i will tell you i have been told the conversation between c.e.o. of the 49ers and the c.e.o. of levi's caused this to come together. we will have more details from the news conference and bring you more tonight on abc7 news. >> happening right now an embarrassing problem with the broken bolts on the new portion of the bay bridge will cost a whopping $5 million to $10 million. caltran is briefing partners on the project right now. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard joins us from treasure island. cornell? >> when it comes to ideas on how to fix the bay bridge, it look like we have a winner, but

fixing the broken bolts on the span will not be cheap and caltran will try but this morning they say they cannot commit to opening on labor day. caltran's announcement moments ago they have chosen a steel saddle system to reinforce 3 dozen bolts that snapped this year after being installed on the new span. the cost of the fix? between $5 million and $10 million. it could take months to complete. as far as opening the bridge on schedule... >> open by labor day? >> that is an outstanding question. there will be a very close race either way. >> caltran will work with the contractor to firm up an opening date but ultimately we are told the governor will have the final say on when the new span opens. there is money available in the budget for the bridge for cost

overruns like this one but it is a big setback and we are told that there is simply no quick fix to getting it done. we are on treasure island this morning for abc7 news. >> and a familiar site has disappeared at interstate 80 and pleasant hills. crews have demolished the arts theater on monument boulevard that were oned in the 1960's. preservationists fought to have it call add landmark but the city council rejected the idea on monday. the theater closed at end of april and the owners will replace it with a dick's sporting goods. >> firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze at the merritt bakery in oakland just before 3:00 a.m. it burns the first and second floors leaving serious fire, smoke, and water damage to the kitchen and the utility room.

merritt bakery has been open for more than 60 years with loyal customers. it has also survived money problems and several fires since it opened in 1952. >> it is an icon and here for some time. we have had several incidents in the past and it has changed ownership twice in my 23 years as a firefighter. >> in 2010 the city of oakland loaned the cash-strapped bakery money to stay open. no word how this fire will impact the future. >> just ahead after a decade, two of the missing cleveland women have finally made it home. >> coming up the emotional arrival and new information about what may have happened to them over the past 10 years. >> a fight over medical miles an hour juan in berkeley pitting city council members against the federal

>> two happy homecoming for women held hostage for 10 years in the cleveland home. three brothers accused of the crime. this is the picture of the crowds outside the home of gina dejesus, set to arrive home any minute now. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo joins from the newsroom. >> neighbors, friends and media waiting across the street from two homes, still waiting at gina dejesus' house but amman -- amanda berry arrived and it was

pure joy. [ applause ] >> police escort amanda berry do her sister's house, balloons, and flowers piled on the porch, a giant sign rides "welcome home." the caravan pulls around back a helicopter catches the quick view of amanda running into the house carrying her daughter. her sister addressed the media. >> it is time that we request privacy so my sister can have time to recover. we appreciate all you have do to us throughout the past 10 years. >> she mentioned the six-year-old born to amanda during the 10 years she was missing, police say three brothers were holding amanda, gina dejesus and michelle knight captive. a police source tells abc7 news all three women became pregnant while being held by the brothers and there could have been as many five pregnancies. one of the women miscarried two or three times because of malnutrition. neighbors say they had seen ariel castro with a girl who called him "dad."

investigators found ropes and chains. >> right now they have completed the searching of the home as far as that goes. investigators entering the suspects and gently interview the women as the women reconnect with their families. amanda had this emotional conversation with her grandmother. >> i am glad to have you back. i thought you were gone. >> the third woman, michelle knight was still in the hospital this morning but is expected to be released today. police have not filed charges against the castro brothers and they have unlawful this evening to do so. >> in the newsroom for abc7 news. >> the parents of the bride killed in the him sign fire on the san mateo-hayward bridge are speaking publicly for the first time since the tragedy. the parents of neriza fojas did an interview with a philippine tv station saying that it is very hard if them to accept what has happened. they say bride pride was scheduled to return next month and get married there. she had been married in a civil

authorities are expected to give an update today on the investigation into the measure defer 8-year-old leila fowler, her family laid her to rest yesterday. she was stabbed to death 12 days ago inside her family's home in the small town of valley springs in calaveras county. the sheriff dive team resumed their search of two wounds by the home. f.b.i. agents confiscated several items from the home including a large tv. there is no word on why. >> four members of berkeley city council are gathering in an hour to protest a federal lawsuit filed against the largest medical marijuana outlet. the "contra costa times" says it is aimed at seizing the property claiming the landlord of berkeley patient groups is breaking federal drug laws by ahouring the sale of marijuana, even though medical pot is legal under state law. it claims the business is too close to two schools. they say they plan to stay in business and join the lawsuit as a defendant. >> c.h.p. officer will be honored tonight for saving the

life of a man who planned to jump off the golden gate bridge. sergeant briggs will be reunited with the california man who went to the bridge to kill himself in 2008. briggs spent more than an hour gently coaxing the man off the ledge, and that is the lat time the two saw each other. tonight he get as chance to say "thank you." the american foundation for suicide prevention is honoring sergeant briggs at an event in new york. >> night to have a reunion like that. >> mike nicco, what is up with the weather? >> the drizzle? >> the gloom. >> trying to keep everyone happy. not everyone likes sunshine and warm weather so today we get the clouds, drizzle, and cooler weather and mother's day we will get sunshine and warmer weather. first, live doppler 7 hd picking up a few radar runs. the eastern section of alameda county from contra costa county headed to livermore, with the windmills running most of the

summer. you can see a few radar runs there and through the altamont pass, as we head toward the tag low rain a few sprinkles on mount hamilton are possible to the east allen rock. you can see these are sliding from northeast to southwest on the back side of an area of low pressure. the weaker side, typically, so all we have seen sprinkles. if you watch this, you can see a fading of the radar returns as the system starts to fall apart and you can see it on the visible satellite. the finer detail i will use during the summer, because it is taking an actual picture of the clouds opposed to assigning the color table to what color the cloud is or what temperature the cloud so you get a visible picture from 23,000 miles out and a clearing trend developing and that is the case so it will be partly sunny but it is so late if the day we have missed a lot of the heating so cooler conditions, cloudy and cool

tonight and no clouds do worry about hanging around for mother's day with a lot of sunshine and warmer weather. downtown oakland headed up on 11:30, the temperature is 356 and we are still in the 50's around san francisco and mill valley and low 60's to mid-60's in walnut creek and san jose and speaking of san jose you can see the clouds over you as we take a look at downtown and temperature in santa rosa, napa, fairfield, concord, upper 50's and mid 60's around los gatos and gilroy. from mount tamalpais this is an idea of why low clouds go away we will still have filtered sunshine and temperatures two to seven degrees cooler than yesterday. back down to the south bay there will be a struggle but we will get to the upper 60's to low 70's and same on the peninsula, near 70 with a lot of mid-60's in millbrae. low 60's along the coast including daly city and south san francisco, 65, and sausalito, and upper 60's to near 70 in the north bay valley and the benches are low 60's and mid-to-upper 60's along the east

bay shore and sunshine comes out warmer in the east bay valley and upper 60's to low 70's. headed to the game, at 12:45 first pitch increasing sunshine and temperature is 58 only warming to 62. temperatures tonight with the cloud cover are low-to-mid 50's and a few upper 40's in napa and santa rosa and upper 40's along the coast. you can see the rain is staying mainly to the north, that is where it will stay, and you can see a little bit of a clearing trend headed overnight for the low clouds filling ban in and tomorrow afternoon, we will see more sunshine and we are locked in the cooler-than-average air mass. by friday, we start to see a little bit of a warming trend and saturday, sunday, monday, and tuesday, mid-80's inland and mid to upper 70's around the bay and some sunshine at the coast and 60's. >> i am not seeing that i am only seeing dollar signs. >> i am seeing a lot of sunshine in the dollar signs. >> happening right now, $222 million is how much tonight's
