business as usual today. yesterday was quite a surprise when chief jordan announce the he would be stepping down as chief oakland's police department. the announcement came a week after a federal overseer issued a report critical of the department leadership but jordan said this has nothing to do with the report but is stepping down because of a health issue. >> i was never forced out. i was talking to my physician for quite some time. >> i hope you hear my true affection for the chief and best wishes. >> the mayor announced the temporary successor as a press conference yesterday, a veteran at the oakland police department. he is the interim chief and she will launch a national search for the new chief.

>> thank you. you can see our entire interview with howard jordan on our website at abc7news.com. it is 4:31. a former cleveland school bus driver suspected of keeping three women captive for the past decade has the first court appearance. the 52-year-old ariel castro is charged with kidnapping and rape. two of the kidnapping victims, amanda berry and gina dejesus are waking up at home after being reunited with their families. a third victim, michelle knight, remains hospitalized. knight suffered several miscarriages due to alleged abuse at hands of castro. it is believed the women were bound with ropes and chains an only allowed outside device in 10 years and berry made a daring escape. >> she saw an opportunity, something clicked and she took that opportunity. she is the true hero. >> the women now in their 20's

and 30's vanished separately between 2002 and 2004. they were 14, 15, and 20. investigators say they do not believe was tremendous' two brothers were involved in the captivity but they still being held on other charges. >> developing news in california, residents of a small town are sheltering in homes while deputies seven for a suspect that killed his wife and two young daughters. the sheriff deputies found the 45-year-old miller's pickup truth. he shot and killed his wife, and eight and four-year-old daughters on tuesday in share home half an hour east of this area, with no word on a motive. >> in hayward police are searching for a man who officers say forced this tomorrow shoot at him. witnesses reported seeing a man with a gun leaving the hayward bart station yesterday

afternoon. sky 7 was overhead as officers swarmed the area and an officer spotted the suspect near dmv open jackson street and investigators say he pointed a gun at the officer. the officer fired a shot but did not hit him. police searched for three hours and evacuated several businesses but have not found the man. >> police have broken up the most sophisticated identity theft rings they have seen. police with help from the secret service arrested these three people. they created fake driver's licenses credit cards and money and checks, and one man was ripped off for $100,000 after his checkbook was stolen. police say they are still looking for two "persons of interest" in the case. >> police are investigating whether there are additional crimes related to a peeping and burglary suspect. the 38-year-old guzman is facing charges for two burglaries. he stole items while the people

inside were sleeping both times. last week, officers say they found a pair of women's underwear on the roof of a home and they say it had been taken from a laundry basket in the garage and had his fingerprints. detectives are asking the public to provide any additional information on burglaries guzman may have kid mitted. >> this morning, abc7 news will get a closeup look while caltran tests the rods installed on the new eastern span of the bay bridge and some rods have cracked when they were tightened. the testing is a day after they revealed the cost to repair broken beaumonts could hit $10 million. adding steel saddles to the support will fix the problems and the bolts are designed to keep the bridge safe during earthquake. caltran says it is not sure if the bridge will still open on labor day. >> today, bart staff will present directors with results of a new survey saying that passengers are more accepting of bicycles on trains. last month, bart test add

warriors is presented to the san francisco planning commission today. a supervisor's committee got to see the latest refinements to the arena proposal on monday. the plan reduces the height of the arena, pulls it back from the by, and adds more open space. the architect says it is in response to community concerns. opponents say the changes should trigger a re-do of the entire environmental review process. the warriors hope to on the arena on pier 30 and 32 by 2017. warriors fans got their faith returned after they beat the spurs last night, again building up a big lead in san antonio with thompson making 7 of eight three's, and warriors were up by 20 points but the spurs made a run in the 4th as in game one and got within six points but this time the warriors held on. steph curry hits with two minutes left and the warriors

look how quickly it moves from the east bay valley to santa clara valley and a few pockets of cloud cover law the golden gate bridge at noon but at 2:00 it will be back at the coast. with the clouds fading faster, it equals warmer temperatures today. in the south bay, we will show you what is going on, 73 in san francisco, los gatos and morgan hill, warmer at 75, santa clara and cupertino, 70 to 72 and mid-60's to upper 60's san mateo, and at the coast, a cool day upper 50's. low 60's around downtown and south san francisco. sausalito is 63. a jump to 69 in san rafael. low-to-mid 70's for the north bay valley. at the bones, it will be cool today with upper 50's. mid-60's to near 70 along the east bay shore with oakland and newark and richmond around 67.

crash with a school bus. the scene is southbound highway 101 yesterday afternoon. the highway patrol tried to stop a vehicle and the car hit a bus. the impact was so strong it caused the bus to spin. there were no children on the bus and the bus driver was not hurt. >> passengers are recovering after the chopper they were in crashed. a helicopter crashed on a busy street in honolulu. no one was seriously hurt. a witness put this video on youtube. the helicopter was on a photography light and lost power. it crashed upside down on top of a car which is why the rotor is bent. this happened outside a fire station so emergency responders were at the crash site in seconds. >> wrigley is taking a new caffeine gum off the market while the food and drug administration investigates the safety of added caffeine. the company says it stops sales
