racing confirms the tragic death of andrew bart simpson. we want to show you where it is right now. we did tow it. the boat overturned in choppy conditions. the crew based in alameda that is where mark matthews is there tonight. mark? >> the team is now arriving back here at the compound. these were team members out trying to rescue the crew on board that stricken yacht and to recover the yacht. the 72 foot yacht cap sized while practicing. the boats are very stable until they are not and these america's cup yachts are overpouered, their sail is 130

feet high and it's solid wing this afternoon, 13 crew were on board. andrew simpson, nicknamed bart for obvious reasons. the remaining 11 all uninjured about 45 minutes ago the ceo gave a very brief statement to reporters here at the compound. >> we had a tragic day on the bay and our thoughts and prayers are with bart simpson's andrew simpson's family, wife, and kids. and also with my teammates. shocking experience to go through. and we have a lot to deal within the next few days in terms of assuring everybody's

well being. >> reports are that doctor was the team on the water worked on simpson for 20 minutes. the gold medal sailor was 36 years old and won the gold in china in the star class then took silver in the london olympics. san francisco fire chief had this to say about simpson when she was on the yacht club this afternoon. >> it's a tragic day someone who is well known and well regarded as an expert racer. and our hearts go out to the family of the member of the team. >> now, the ceo is the head of

the team but he is a san francisco native. i covered him when he was the skipper. he crewed on the bay grew up with legend tom blackaller. he is a member of the st. francis yacht club. he was the first american to do that. the crew bringing up the sail from the cap sized catamaran and into the compound this, is a very difficult day for the crew and i was racing on the bay in 1994 when the rolex yachtsman of the year, larry klein died during a race when the hiking rack he was on broke. i was on the st. francis yacht club dock as the paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive

a major victory tonight for san francisco in efforts to renovate soccer fields. the state commission says the city should be allowed to move forward with the plan to refurbish the beach chalet soccer fields. today's hearing lasted for hours with opponents signaling their feelings with fan gestures as well as testimony. >> what about kids? >> how many do we have? >> there are toxic issues that need to be seriously considered. >> there has been passionate debate about the soccer fields in golden gate park. san francisco recreation and parks department plans to partner with a nonprofit on a multi million dollar renovation calling for synthetic turf and light

tonight the state public utilities commission looking into the horrific limousine fire. we've learn there'd is not a lot of oversight to make sure the industry is as safe adds it can be. vic? >> the regulations deals almost exclusively with making sure companies have insurance coverage. it seem as parent having been to the p.u.c. meeting today that the agency swril a hard time enforcing change autos one issue is to look at where there are gaps in coverage and examine whether there is something that needs to be done there.
