at 1:00 the artemis, 72-foot race boat came apart doing a maneuver going down wind. we know andrew bart simpson was trapped underwater as much as 10 minutes before being pulled from the wreckage. the yacht known as big red was turning down wind in what is termed a fair away maneuver. the boat suffered a catastrophic failure. what happened, we don't know. >> andrew was a very good friend. >> today the race chairman struggled to get the words out as he described simpson, who just joined the team in february. >> he was doing what he loved. it was his passion. and andrew was used to having done at the highest level that

we could. >> the chairman could not say what happened to the hull yesterday afternoon. >> it nosedived and the point is that the boat ended up upside down, cap sized, broken in to many piece autos simpson was trapped under some of the solid sections of the yacht out of sight of the others, scrambling to find him. out of respect to the team the chairman and ceo are waiting to question crew members on board. >> we need to give the respect of the team, families and wile start details with the process with the coast guard and access to the people and equipment become available. >> this australian was at the
