the area is still proposed -- ropethe off. it was so huge they had to fight from outside. people were sleeping and woke up to a huge fire around action this morning. >> i opened the door and i immediately choked on black thick smoke and it felt like the fire was pretty heavy. i tolden to get out. that was the only opening. >> he did not have time to put on shoes as he tried to evacuate the six people living in his apartment. >> no key. no phone. nothing. nothing. nothing. i was waried about my mom and brothers. >> firefighters heard cars were on fire in the carport. it is not confirmed that is where it started but it spread quickly. two were hurt, one with minor buns and one inviewed an arm. en got out because of thes g ea.

>> sleeping and, suddenly, someone is knock on the door and telling us to get out. >> it happened across the street from fair oaks almostty school. the school provided a place for evacuees to gather but the insurance pal assured parents that classes would not be interrupted. >> the principal left messages that there would be classes, don't worry, it is safe. so we came. >> here is a look at campus right now. evacuees are hang out waiting for word on when they can go home were getting help from the red cross. the neighborhood is disrupted today. you can see a.t.f. agents walking an the scene. everything is suspicious until it is ruled out, so at this point they don't know what caused it but they often rely on the a.t.f. because of their investigative tools but they

don't know the cause of the fire. >> thank you, another apartment fire this morning in san jose, you can see the intense flames. it started around 8:00 a.m. and smoke was pouring from the building. the fire is out but crews are on the scene. no one was hurt. they are trying to determine the cause. >> abc7 news was at a fire at lockheed martin facility in sunnyvale. an electrical fire started if a building used to research ballistic missiles and defense lasers. the fire was not hazardous and was contained to mostly office space. >> parents and neighbors of a san jose school demand safety improvements on a street they have long deemed dangerous. a little girl was walking and was hit and killed by a vehicle. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is at parkside

elementary school. >> it has been a tough morning for parents and teachers at park view elementary a day after a five-year-old girl was struck and killed here on bluefield drive while walking home with her relatives. people have been bringing flowers to the spot of the accident and police begin the investigation. >> extra crossing guards are on duty and there are signs to urge the drivers to slow. a memorial is growing across the street for the five-year-old preschooler, oscar aileen quiro, struck by a car struck by a car. >> it could have been anyone's child. >> today, this mother drove the kids to school. >> there will be fundraising to help the people, you never know what hardship a family may have. as a parent would has

starting this afternoon enforcing the 25 mile per hour speed limit. >> sky 7 was over a deadly pedestrian accident on the peninsula. a caltrain spokesman said one of the trains struck a person in san bruno after 5:00 a.m. it happened on the tracks at scott street and brought service to a complete stop this morning. caltrain is now tweeting that some trains are still running behind schedule hours later. >> the 12-year-old boy charged in the stabbing death of his younger sister will appear this court in the hour. the brother of 8-year-old leila fowler was charged yesterday with second degree murder and a special allegation of use of a dangerous weapon. attorneys want him released base on cooperation with investigators. yesterdays officials released the step mother's 9-1-1 call made after her son said he scared off an intruder.

we posted the call on-line at abc7news.com. >> new this morning, the family of a missing autistic girl will announce a possible reward this afternoon in the search for her. crews are hooking for the nine-year-old mikaela lynch who went missing on sunday on mother's day. miss say surveillance video shows mikaela lynch running up the street after she was last seen at a family vacation home. authorities say the video eliminates the possibility she went across the street and into the water. neighbors are asked to check their surrounding for any sign of mikaela lynch. >> several people are under arrest this morning after san francisco police swept out dozens of squatters occupying an empty building in the ocean view neighborhood. you will see this video only on abc7 news. our reporter joining us with the exclusive on this. >> the squatters have been living on the property for months preventing the owners from demolishing it to make way

for a new multi-use building. a large contingent of police descended in the early morning operation. >> swat team members and officers assembled at 7:00 this morning at 200 broad street. a police sergeant using a bullhorn ordered the occupiers to leave or they would be arrested. they appeared at the door where officers escorted them off the property. police say that various groups of trespassers were living there for eight months and we spoke with several of the squatters last week on said they wanted to create a community center in a safe place people in the neighborhood. the former church was bought by two families who want to demolish it and build a three-story facility. a lawyer for the families told abc7 news that the owners decided to invest in this district as part of the mayor's invest in neighborhoods initiative. this neighborhood was designate as one of 25 districts in the

program to help economically depressed areas of the city. two people were arrested today. one for resisting officer's commands and the other for parole violation. the deputy chief summed up the operation this way. >> we allowed everyone inside five minutes to get their property and leave if they did, and 28 decided to leave. >> the owners of the building were glad that police removed the trespassers but at the same time they believe that police acted too slowly in getting them out. the lawyer tells us that in the past month, they have asked list numerous times to take action. tonight, on abc7 news at 6:00, we will hear from the lawyer and the police response. >> attorney scene holder on the hotseat on capitol hill today. members of congress fired up over revelations that the i.r.s. targeted conservative groups. the northern california organizations that could be
