do you recognize this guy? well police hope you do. police say he is responsible for a violent carjacking that began at this denny's where he was captured on surveillance video. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. 2* all happened at the denny's at blossom hill road. the victim managed to jump out of the moving car. sergio is live in san jose for the latest on the hunt for the carjacker. sergio? >> reporter: police are hoping surveillance pictures will catch this man. that's because just before the carjacking he walked into the denny's and security camerass

inside got some really good images of him. these are photos of the man police say attacked a customer as she arrived at the denny's restaurant at 4:30 this morning. >> runs up to her driver's side door and forces his way into the car and pushes her into the passenger seat and basically flees which is a carjacking. >> reporter: the man sped down sanchez drive, but the victim jumped out of the car at 40 miles an hour. she was pretty banged up. >> road rash from hitting the ground and rolling. these are significant injuries, and you can imagine the emotional fear and the damage that was done in addition to the physical damage. >> reporter: she made it back to denny's and called police. one regular customer of the restaurant tells us he is surprised to hear that this happened. >> my son has walked from here to oak ridge all the time. they cut through here all the time. that's quite alarming to me. >> reporter: police say the man ditched the victim's vehicle in the neighborhood. the suspect is described as about 18 to 25 years old standing about 5 feet seven

inches and weighing about 150 pounds. anyone who knows this man should call san jose police. in san jose, sergio quintana, abc7 news. >> new details at 11:00. we now know the names of two men shot to death on 880 in downtown oakland. relatives provided us this picture of terrance marx and christopher deardon taken hours before they died. he owns season tickets and took marx as his guest. several bullets struck the porsche. investigators believe they were targeted. detectives want to know if something at the game perhaps triggered this shooting. they are reviewing surveillance footage from oracle arena and 880 as well. developing news out of connecticut where 60 people have now been taken to the hospital following a collision between two commuter trains. a train bound for morning derailed during rush hour and hit another train on the opposite track. the side of one train was shredded. >> all of a sudden heard

boom and then we saw smoke everywhere . i was just focusing on my kids, hugging them and embracing them. >> i have seen people flew all over the place. i almost flew over the seat, but i held on. >> the crash happened near fairfield about 60 miles outside new york. the track sustained major damage. in fact, all rail traffic between new york and connecticut has been suspended and amtrak has stopped service between new york and boston indefinitely. an explosion rocked the neighborhood in san jose earlier this evening. sky 7hd was overhead as the bomb squad blew up a grenade. there it goes just before 6:00. a woman told police she found it in her garage on clover crest drive. officers evacuated a few nearby homes as a precaution. bomb experts were not certain if the grenade was actually live, but they didn't want to take any chances. they destroyed it just in case. flames raced through the mountains near los angeles this afternoon.

firefighters battled the wildfire from the water and the air after it broke out along was stay -- castaic lake. it burned hundreds of acres and it came within 100 yards of the school, but the school was not in danger because dry brush was cleared to create a defensible space there. and sky heavy hd was above park boulevard and eerie boulevard to clear a huge tree that had fallen. this was right in the middle of rush hour. traffic was stopped as the tree was cut into manageable pieces and hauled away. no injuries were reported. tens of thousands of trees are on the chopping block in the east bay, but they have one final chance to speak out about the project that will eliminate about 80,000 trees from the east bay hills. alan wang has this story. >> reporter: in one year this young eucalyptus tree can grow four to six feet. they have taken over the east bay hills and now uc berkeley, oakland and the east bay regional park have a plan to

remove about 80,000 nonnative trees. >> the you eucalyptus can -- the eucalyptus has a compound in their leaves and their bark is known as candle bark because it ignites. >> oakland and the east bay regional parks want to thin out the trees. >> the fire risk program removes the under story. that to us is ideal. >> but uc berkeley wants to remove most of its 22,000 eucalyptus trees and restore native species like they did in the clairemont canyon. >> these are lower trees. they don't have the same bark characteristics. they put far less litter out per acre per year in terms of ground fuels. >> but opponents believe the native species are a greater fire threat. >> and because all of these trees have foliage at ground level, they are ideal for

propogating a fire. >> reporter: they are providing the money to cut down the trees and a final public meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at clairemont middle school in oakland at 10:00 a.m. in the east bay, alan wang, abc7 news. tonight the port of oakland suspended operations for 24 hours to investigate the death of a longshoreman there. the unidentified employee died when his white pick up truck plunged into the san francisco bay this afternoon. the man who worked at the port for 50 years was helping direct the placement of containers when this accident happened. a southern california woman has been charged with bill -- bilking an 85-year-old man us out of his life savings. gina mitchell was arrested at a sting operation at a san jose hotel. they call her a sweetheart scammer. she tricked him into marying her and pretended to need money to renovate two hotels. turns out the hotels did not exist. a record powerball jackpot

there has been a huge spike in home burglaries and other property crimes around the bay area. why? police say it is largely because so many inmates are being released into our communities because of overcroweded state prisons. abc7 news reporter vic lee has the story. >> in the bay area there is

one property crime every four minutes. cell phone robberies are becoming an epidemic even on muni. this security camera video may be old, but police say the mo is still the same and just as quick. the most troubling of all, the big spike in home burglaries. this security camera captured a woman with an infant knocking on the door. when no one answered two other burglars tried to pry open the sliding glass door. the san mateo police chief is president of the peninsula police chiefs and sheriffs association. >> all five of the bay area peninsula county and san francisco and santa clara and alameda and marin county contributed to a 23% jump in the last quarter alone in burglaries. that's huge. >> my sense is why that's why many of you are here to hear about burglaries. >> reporter: community meetings are sprodding up all over. this one held in san carlos

was packed with homeowners. many in-law enforcement believe reuh mine meant may be a likely cause. in october of 2011, the state tried to reduce over crowding in state prisons and thousands of nonviolent and low risk felons were released to county jails. a move that ultimately resulted and many being released early. yesterday the state released its own report that showed a slight decrease in arrests among prisoners who have been released. but the report only tracked them for the first six months of the program that started a year and a half ago. >> let's get some data so we know what we are talking about. >> reporter: no studies have been made on the impact alignment on the crime. there are a lot of troubling connections. san mateo county district attorney steve wagstaff says during the first three months during realignment started property crimes began increasing. the county task forces like this one are monitoring how realignment is going.

the state prisoners who were transferred to counties are supposed to be nonviolent and low risk. he says that's not true. >> i am only speaking to san mateo county now. there is a 50 to 75% that are higher risk offenders. >> she describes the discrepancy. >> they are released based on their last conviction offense. if you go back there will be some sort of violence or somebody that got caught dealing drugs with a weapon and they plea away the weapons charge. >> antioch police are tracking some 80 realignment prisoners who got early releases to their city. they say some were responsible for murders and officer involved shootings. here are some other examples of low risk realignment transferses. this one has carjacking, assault on an officer and a gun charge on his rap sheet. he was previously arrested for robbery, carjacking and has a

gun charge. on his record attempted murder, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon. san mateo police routinely ask why realignment prisoners prisoners are committing property crimes. >> they have all realized that there is much less of a punishment and much lighter sentence for property crimes. >> like home burglaries. lee, a. >> here is the tip from san mateo police. let people know if you are home if people come knocking on the doors. they look for and are -- and prefer unoccupied homes. some young foxes have taken up residents at facebook headquarters in menlo park. here is a look at some cell phone video of the kids sunning themselves and playing a game of tag. since they are at facebook, the foxes have their own facebook page. the company's facilities team contacted wildlife services to make sure these adorable foxes are protected. >> and they are tacking on
