>> the latest twister wiped out part of a trailer park in oklahoma. some people are still nursing their injuries. many others, forced to spend the night in the dark. abc's devin dwyer has much more. good morning, devin. >> reporter: good morning, diana. good morning, john. a tornado watch is still in effect for parts of oklahoma, arkansas and missouri, after a dramatic day of dangerous storms. it was a storm chaser's dream. >> it's coming right for us. >> reporter: a parade of powerful tornadoes from kansas to oklahoma. the twisters created massive swirls of debris as they tore across the open plains. ominous funnel clouds dropped from the sky. and supersized hail pelted drivers on the road. >> it was very scary. >> reporter: the storms created a trail of terror. a massive tornado pulverized homes and killed at least one man in a mobile home park southeast of oklahoma city. high winds toppled power lines and tossed tractor-trailers off interstates, spilling their cargo on to the road.

in kansas, a flurry of hail was so strong, it took paint off homes. >> the wind is unbelievable how the hail and everything was just coming straight sideways. >> reporter: at this campground, r.v.s and their owners got badly battered, too. >> the wind came up all of a sudden. and the r.v. started shaking. i'm thankful that we weren't hurt more than we were. >> reporter: the threat for severe storms now marches east, stretching from texas up to wisconsin and illinois. forecasters say eastern oklahoma and central missouri are most at risk for more dangerous tornadoes later today. now, two twisters were also reported in iowa yesterday. ending an all-time record in that state of 359 days without a tornado. diana? >> wow. devin dwyer with that live report for us this morning. thank you. unfortunately, today's forecast offering little in the way of good news for the already-ravaged heartland. that storm system moving eastward, with warnings and advisories, stretching from the great lakes all the way to northern texas. some scattered showers along the east coast.

and possible snow in northern colorado and southern wyoming. >> as for the temperatures, cool 60s in the northwest. muggy 80s in the east. and sizzling 90s in the southwest. the busiest rail line in the country, serving commuters between connecticut and new york city is shut down indefinitely. crews will be working around the clock to try to rebuild 2,000 feet of track seriously damaged during friday's evening rush. a packed commuter train crashed into another train that had derailed. left 72 people injured. it is expected to take several days before the repairs are complete and trains are up and running again. in chicago, an amtrak train from new orleans derailed near union station sunday morning. the accident caused some delays and cancellations. the train stayed upright. no one was injured. service restored later in the day. a 21-year-old student near hofstra university was shot and killed by police aiming at a suspect. a gunman broke into an off-campus house, robbed the students inside and sent one of them to the atm for more money, threatening to kill the others if she didn't come back. the gunman had andrea rebello in a headlock, when police rushed

in. when he pointed his gun at the officers, one of them opened fire, killing the suspect, killing rebello. her sister survived. there's talk on capitol hill this week, including hearings of the irs targeting of tea party groups. there were new revelations over the weekend about who knew what about the targeting and when. treasury department officials were told of an investigation into irs actions about a year ago, as were some republican congressmen. as for what happens next, it depends on your party. >> i think a special council is going to end up being necessary here. >> what we're not going to participate in a partisan fishing expedition to distract from the real issues at hand. >> pfeiffer said there was no communication between the obama administration and the irs about the targeting. all eyes are on a tiny town in florida, waiting for the country's newest multimillionaire to emerge. the sole winning ticket for the biggest powerball jackpot ever was sold near tampa.

the lucky person or group can't remain anonymous for too long. state law requires winners to go public. here's abc's chuck severson. >> we have the biggest jackpot in powerball history. >> reporter: these are the six numbers that add up to $590 million, that is. and lady luck kissed just one ticket, sold in the town of zephyrhills, florida, at this publix supermarket. shoppers there were absorbing the news. >> like, wow, i can't believe it. that's shocking. out of the whole country, this publix in little zephyrhills would be the winner. >> that's crazy. that's so much money. somebody's going to be really happy. >> reporter: who's holding the ticket to easy street? we don't know yet. but one lottery official offered some unorthodox advice. >> i would sign the back of the ticket. if it were me, i'd put that in an envelope and duct tape it to my chest. i'd be known as the powerball millionaire with a nasty rash. >> reporter: more than 230 million tickets were bought. >> it's been nonstop all day.

web giant yahoo! announcing its latest in a series of major deals today in new york. "the wall street journal" reports yahoo! is buying the online content sharing site tumblr, in a purchase worth more than $1 billion. there's reports it's an all-cash deal. this is the biggest transaction since yahoo! hired a new ceo who was working to drive up revenue and web traffic. the popular website pinterest is getting an upgrade. pins from certain brands will display information such as recipe, reviews and prices. now, if you click on a product, it will take you to the original

source. the changes will allow a user to get more detailed information right there on their news feed. senator kirsten gillibrand proposing a new bill that would lighten the load for student borrowers. interest rates for most federal student loans are set at 6% or higher. the new legislation would allow students and graduates to refinance, fixing that rate at about 4%. the dreamliner is taking off today for the first time since january, when the entire fleet was grounded for battery problems. united airlines, the only u.s. operator of the boeing 787, will fly the high-tech jet from houston to chicago. the faa approved boeing's plans to fix the problem last month. your bottle of sunscreen this summer will have a new label. that's because the fda is out with new rules, banning terms like water-proof. it's requiring sunscreen to filter ultraviolet a and b rays. but consumer watchdog groups say many brands carry labeling that's misleading and

morning. plan on rain, howling wind and flooding from the great lakes to north texas today. >> if you're flying, the list of possible airport delays is a long one. dallas, oklahoma city, chicago, minneapolis, boston, new york, philadelphia and washington, d.c. the judge deciding whether or not o.j. simpson should be given another trial says she will release her decision within the next few weeks. and when she does, it will be in writing. simpson testified last week that his former lead attorney botched his defense, leading to his 2008 conviction for kidnapping and armed robbery. simpson's current attorneys believe he will be granted a new trial. dozens of people are recovering from injuries they suffered during a parade in western virginia over the weekend. they were hurt when an elderly man's cadillac careened into the parade. it is believed the man lost control after suffering some sort of medical problem. police say he likely did not intentionally cause the accident. police say witnesses lifted the car and pulled people trapped underneath to safety.

the american embassy employee accused of being a cia spy last week has finally left russia. 29-year-old ryan fogle was seen at the airport five days after he was ordered out. he was seen wearing a blonde wig after being arrested. he had worked as a secretary at the u.s. embassy in moscow. the russians accuse of him trying to recruit one of their counterterrorism officers. the head of the associated press speaking out for the first time since last week's revelation that the justice department seized some of his organization's phone records. gary pruitt says the a.p. has not ruled out legal action against the government. the seizure happened in connection with the government's investigation of a national security leak. >> we don't question their right to conduct these sort of investigations. we just think they went about it the wrong way. so sweeping. so secretively. so abusively and harassingly and overbroad that it constitutes -- that it is an unconstitutional act. >> pruitt also said the seizure

story has had a chilling effect on his association's news gathering. he claims it's made sources less willing to talk to a.p. journalists. lawmakers are raising questions about google's high-tech glasses. eight members of congress have sent a letter to google, demanding that the company address privacy concerns over google glass, which is not yet for sale. the glasses can take photos and videos. so, lawmakers want to avoid unwanted recordings. google insists they have built-in technologies to prevent privacies violations. and the runner who was approaching the finish line when the bombs went off at the boston marathon has done it again. bill mckay ran the entire route of the boston marathon, joined by friends and family. this time, he did it to honor victims of the attack and to raise money for them. he wanted to show children to finish strong and never give up. >> fantastic. time for sports. playoffs and a party spoiled at the friendly confines. you'll see what we mean. here's espn. >> welcome into your "sportscenter" update. i'm dario melendez.

>> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> we have breaking news in the north bay, where firefighters are battles a major house fire. the flamed chased two people from their homes. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard is on the scene. >> three people live in the house. we are told by the fire department all of them got out. that is the good news. this fire put up a lot of smoke. we could see and smell it as far as greenbrae. firefighters arrived on good hill road at 2:00 a.m. parts of the house were fully engulfed in flames. the fire quickly moved to three alarms. tenning encompanies from san rafael, and kent field and found

the garage and parts of the guest house were engulfed. it took 45 minutes to put the fire out. fire investigators are on the scene. the cause is under investigation. firefighters told me it does not appear to be suspicious. the big concern in the neighborhood, it is so wooded, so many old-growth trees. that was the big concern that they would catch fire and move to other homes but quick action by the fire department prevented that from happening. the red cross here on the scene rendering aid to the family now displaced. hope to have more information on the fire at 5:00 a.m. >> thank you. we have breaking news from the oakland hills with another early morning fire. the brushfire broke out near skyline boulevard at 1:45 a.m. near sunset trails in joaquin

miller park. it is under control. traffic in the area will be affected as they watch for hotspots. a crew is headed to the scene with a report at the top of the hour. >> we are following breaking news from dallas where firefighters are battling a six-alarm fire at a condo complex. one firefighter is reporting missing forcing dozens to evacuate. some had to be rescued. no word on the cause. >> we look at the weather forecast. meteorologist, mike nicco is with us. >> we pay have a high fire danger tomorrow but no heat. we will keep an eye on that. live doppler 7 hd shows the radar and sat height is quiet. in the hottest day this week, temperatures from 85 to 92 inland and mid-70's to mid-80's throughout most of the bay and we could get to 87 in san jose. the
