survivors. among the dead at least seven children from an elementary school hit hard by the storm. 100 people, in fact 65 of them, children, being treatsed at several hospitals in the oklahoma city area. many of them suffered major injuries. five of the children brought from a local elementary school. the heaviest damage is in the community of moore on the southeastern edge of oklahoma city, not far from downtown. we have remarkable video just moments before it touched down. authorities say the impact from the tornado appears to be more severe than the one in 1999 what devastated the university, killing 36 people. the president... >> we're doing everything as

we can to get as much emergency personnel, state agencies and different charities out doing search and rescue efforts trying to make sure we've looked under every piece of debris and building and to find anyone that might be injured or lost from the storm. >> the president just called oklahoma governor to express his concerns. the white house directed fema to send emergency resources to help out with recovery effort autos now, state and local officials are holding a news conference to discuss the situation there. we want to let you listen in for just a moment to see these officials are saying. >> at this time we do not need mutual aid response. we do appreciate everything received so far but we have plenty of help on the scene.

i want to thank the red cross, everyone involved so far and citizens for being so understanding with us. and we're doing everything we can to help citizens in this community. thank you. >> i'm the chief of police here in moore. our thoughts and prayers were those individuals who have been affected by this storm and as far as police department is concerned we have a perimeter set up and we'd ask the if people nrt areas to vacate as quickly as possible, if possible there are safety issues and gas lines and power lines. things of that nature that we have to search and rescue

efforts will continue throughout night or as lng as they need be. so... there is another site for parents of children at plasent towers elementary. if you need to make contact there, you can do that. as well as st. andrews church. other students and schools who have been held over, parents need to go to moore high school and contact officials there. so again, we want to thank everybody for their help and other agencies involved. we couldn't do this alone. we do appreciate all of the help. thank you.

and resources are at the disposal of the effort. i'm going to bring in the city manager. >> i'm the city manager for oklahoma city. comments on behalf of the city of oklahoma city, thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been injured and that lost loved ones. i want to high lie a lit bit about water. water treatment plant was spare frtd tornado but we did lose power to the facility. it could be several hours before that happens. we have generators coming in to power up the water treatment plan. however, i do want to highlight a couple things. water is sa. it's tok drink water going forward but use it

sparingly over the next day or so. and so, we should have the power back up but there will be areas of low pressure. and please use your water wisely over the next day or so. i want to introduce the oklahoma city police chief. thank you. >> obviously, area moore has been hit harder than oklahoma city. we're deal wang area just about three square miles, we're having to secure homes that receive smd damage if not total loss. i know what we're dealing with is less there. is a great deal of tragedy there. a long list of what moore is dealing with. i have to echo what everybody says, i pleesh yait efforts of the state. all agencies red cross and volunteers coming together to do what they do in situations like this, going through before, sadly in 1999.

we do appreciate it. and will work through this day by day. one of the important things the governor said is be patient. we're not going allow citizens back into those areas. officers and fire departments are working closely together to make sure we get areas searched. we'll receive text messages and phone calls from people trapped in homes and shelters inside of their house. we're still trying to search areas out as well as people that can't make contact. so that is going to take time. so you have to have patients getting back into the areas and homes for the next couple days making sure we do everything we can do to make sure everybody is in there that will be found. so... again, i want to thank everybody in the city and

vallejo, one person suffered critical burns in an apartment fire this afternoon. allen? >> there is a 60-plus year old man in the hospital that would likely be dead had it not been for heoics this afternoon. let's take a look. witnesses say the man's apartment was fully engulfed. he was disoriented and wandered back into the burning apartment, firefighters scampered up the ladder and ran into the fire and he says the man passed out on the floor and also on fire. the firefighter picked him up and tried to kaert man but he woke up and started grabbing things as the firefighter tried to drag him out. the frlt tells me he got him to the balcony handing him off to the battalion chief. who kraid yeld him like a baby, carrying him down the ladder.

a san francisco man died after falling from the roof of a building yesterday, at a beta breakers house party near golden gate park. abc 7 news has the story. >> beta breakers was over but the party was still going on. sue noticed some guys on the roof of a four-story building on the block where her daughter lives. >> i'm thinking this isn't safe. someone is going to fall.

within seconds of saying that, really, i saw him fall and i screamed. and -- it's horrible. >> the 28-year-old landed on the pavement, critically injured and later died at the hospital. henry hutchinson lives in the building next door. >> what i noticed is that there are 17 police, two fire engines and his friends have been seated and distraught. >> he says the party was not rowdy, though police say drinking was involved. he worked here in demand force in san francisco. his colleagues don't want to talk. >> this is a tragic event. you know? which is why we don't want and encourage people to this these events but it's a private building. >> and there is no police investigation.
