>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone, 5:00 a.m. on tuesday. we thank you for joining us at this early hour. >> an endless night for emergency workers and search team combing the rubble of homes, schools, and a hospital in oklahoma city suburb looking for more survivors of the devastating tornado. the official death toll is 51 but a spokesman for the oklahoma city medical examiner says that in uncould -- that number could climb to 91. president obama will address the nation at 7:00 our time and now money will flow to the victims

after being called a disaster zone. >> rescue workers are searching through the rubble as we speak. three search-and-rescue teams have been activateed. from moore, oklahoma, this is the scene with the sun up this morning, a community of 41,000 people outside of oklahoma city. this is one example, entire neighborhoods have been flattened. two elementary schools were also destroyed. a plaza towers elementary school, workers are still searching through the debris. we have not confirmed that the children who died attended that school. the other school, all students there are accounted for so that is great news. you can see parents and kids searching for each other and many emotional reunions like this caught on tape. another mom says that her son's teacher saved his life. >> i have now doubt that god was

there. they lifted a wall off several kids. he only has a scratch. >> look at this cell phone video a man captured this in newcastle, 20 miles south of oklahoma city, the national weather service confirms it was an ef4 tornado with winds up to 200 miles per hour. the number of dead and injured is changing and survivors are being treated and released and transferred to other hospital and some have died. we do expect updated numbers from the medical examiner in another hour. that area is known as tornado alley and has taken a pounding. what is in store today? >> hopefully not the same weather conditions? >> when you get a system like that it is hard to repeat it a second day in a row after you have had so much energy in the atmosphere getting the tornadoes to that side.

newcastle, behind my name, and here is and the radar for oklahoma city. you can see it is quieting considerably. down to the south and east we expect severe weather today and the squall line is slowly marching forward and you can see yesterday's storm system moving across northern arkansas with a bow echo and probably straight line winds in the mountains of arkansas this morning headed to memphis. this is going to slide to the south and as you can see coming up the oklahoma turnpike could be another round of severe weather but the back side of the squall line it gets choked from the system down to the south of it and that takes the energy so i don't think we will see a repeat, mainly hail today and gusty winds. eric in. >> the tragedy comes as we approach the anniversary of one of the deadliest tornadoes in recent years, tomorrow is two years since the twist are wiped

out joplin, missouri, may 22, 2011 an f5 tornado hit the town claiming 158 lives, 64 years before that there was a deadlier tornado in 1947, again in oklahoma, and in 1936, back-to-back tornadoes hit georgia and mississippi and each claimed more than 200 lives. the deadliest on record, 1925 tri-state tornado that want through missouri, illinois, and indiana killing almost 700 people. this twister lasted 3 1/2 hours. >> the salvation army and red cross have set up disaster relief centers and volunteers in the bay area have been told to be on stand by to fly out when they get the call. >> in the bay area we have 4,000 volume -- volunteers in different areas including

the cold front and transition to the cooler weather in the afternoon, most of us in the low-to-mid 70's with a few 40's in the north bay valley and breezes kick in, at noon, and we will see increasing sunshine. by 4:00 we are only in the low 70's inland well into the 90's at 4:00 yesterday, though. 66 around bait and 56 at the coast. by 7:00, clouds gone and the temperatures are dropping rapidly into the 50's to mid-60's and you will need a coat. it look like it will last through the traditional work week with temperatures at or below average, breezy wednesday and thursday and the breezes taper on friday and we will see warming trend that moves into the weekend. but, first, are this hotspots? >> we have a brand new one in san jose southbound along 101 on blossom hill road a car slammed

into the back of the big rig and spun out. we are looking at a delay southbound, and northbound traffic is not affected and we will look outside at walnut creek commute headed southbound along 680 you are in good shape, northbound, also, does not appear to be affected and the crash we had northbound along 680 approaching highway 24, that now has been cleared it appears. >> in a few hours searchers will comb the ocean beach area of san francisco for signs of a plan who want missing after the sunday bay to breakers race with abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield on the search. >> friends are not giving up and meeting to look for him at 9:00. the 27-year-old disappeared on sunday during the bay to breakers race where the belongings found along ocean believe, his clothes, hat, cell

phone, and passport. lifeguards and the coast guard and his friends have looked. his co-workers have stopped working so they could put up flyers and search hoping for a miracle. it is hope. i want to be able to yell at bo. i hope he makes it. >> rasmussen lives in emeryville and last seen around noon on sunday. his friends say he was probably drinking during the race by they will not say that was a factor in the disappearance. rasmussen's family is expected to join in the search today that is scheduled for later this morning. reporting live in san francisco for abc7 news. >> a lot of people are keeping their fingers crossed this and nfl team owners vote today on which city will host the 2015

saying his plan costs apple more money but the company would be happy to pay. >> east bay school district has place add principal and teacher of an elementary school on leave while they investigate allegations of student abuse. the alleged incident happened on a playground of the elementary in brentwood. the principal and an unidentified special ed teacher were placed on leave after a parent claimed the teacher kicked a special needs student down a slide. the police say they investigated it and found no basis for the claim but the officials state move to place the pair on leave is standard procedure and is not indication of any wrongdoing by the principal or the teacher. >> the berkeley popular services will get more expensive with the city council raising fees even doubling some, dog adoption fees go up from $100 to $125, registration fees for tattoo artists double to $85. annual fees for permits, registration and inspection

ef4. >> that is 166 miles per hour to 200 miles per hour, the second strongest tornado can you have, up to ef5 there is nothing left of houses and even the concrete can be sucked from the ground. that is why the walls are caved in. when we do a tornado drill you go to the hall way because you thought you would be safe but it was not safe in that case. >> it was huge, right, a lot of area? >> two miles wide and that is unheard of to have that kind of a spin in that wide area. you think of a figure skater they bring their arms in so the center of gravity is smaller and they can spin faster but the bigger it is, the harder to spit. that was very impressive. also, in oak," they sit on rock and do not have basements to hair -- their homes. >> a look at what is going on here, we have made everyone

hopefully understand what is going on for the people and why they have to deal with the issues they have, we will talk about what is going on here. live doppler 7 hd and it is quiet out there and we will keep it rolling but i don't think the cold front will give us any form of precipitation. what it is doing, the forest hill neighborhood is 48 degrees in san francisco and we have around 50 to 52 degrees everywhere else from the ferry building downtown to mission district and same thing in richmond and palo alto and pleasanton and walnut creek at 54 along with union city, and some of the warm spots, the further east, tracy at 60, and pittsburg at 63 and half moon bay at 52 and petaluma is 48. now, what is happening today, as we look at a beautiful picture from san francisco exploritorium, increasing sunshine, and breezes today on the back side of the cold front that is moving through with the cloud cover, you can see cool breezes, not only today, tomorrow, but thursday so it will be around for a good 72

hours and calmer weather and slow warming trend through the weekend but i don't think it will be so warm as i thought yesterday. i will show you that in a second but first, the cold front came right down to our neighborhood and we are funneling a straight shot right between the high and the low coming straight from the arctic circle to our neighborhood and that is why temperatures will be below average. how far? today, a couple of degrees, 71 in san jose and upper 60's in milpitas and sunnyvale and mid-to-upper 60's on the peninsula and headed to the coast, upper 50's to sick, and low-to-mid 60's in downtown and south seas latte and low-to-mid 70's through the north bay. it would not be so bad if not for the breeze feeling more cooler. we will have mid-to-upper 60's along the east bay shore and low-to-mid 70's in the east bay valley. seven-day forecast shows temperatures dropping a couple more degrees tomorrow, thursday, we will rebound a little bit on friday and drop on saturday, and sunday and monday you will

notice the warming trend as it hits our neighbor. have a great day. >> starting in vallejo we have a report of rocks in the roadway and several vehicles have pull over to the shoulder with not tires, westbound 80 at columbus parkway we do not see delays and everyone is off to the shoulder and not blocking lanes but there are rocks and it is causing damage to people's car. so at 5:20 you could 51 -- you could run into a delay. and sand is on the road in this area and it will be shut down until further notice. in san jose the crash is still in place on the shoulder southbound 101 at blossom hill road, a look at the golden gate bridge and you have early construction in the northbound lane and all the cones have been picked up. southbound side is looking clear. >> time is 5:20. five things to know as you start your day. >> a big day for video game

>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news, good morning, thanks for joining us. >> the sun is up. oklahoma is getting a better view of the devastation in the wake of the powerful tornado that leveled parts of suburban oklahoma city more than 50 people dead. the death toll is expected to rise. katiekatie marzullo is here with more. >> it is believed up to 91 are dead including 20 children. more than 200 people were taken to the hospitals but the nones are expected to change this morning. maybe in the hour. from moore oak oh, entire neighborhoods flattened and two schools, rescue workers are still searching through the rubble and three urban search-and-rescue teams have been activated to help.

>> if you want to hear more they are on "good morning america" at 7:00 right here on abc7 news. >> vallejo firefighter is recovering from burns to his hands this morning but he may feel better knowing that a man's life was saved. a disoriented man in his 60's was trapped on a balcony as flames tore through the one-bedroom apartment. neighbors and firefighters sprang into action and put up a ladder and the firefighter climbed into the billowing smoke and flames. >> he was grabbing on to something and i got his hand free but i needed help with someone on the ladder to pass him off to. >> three neighbors steadied a leader so firefighters could carry the victim down. he is treated for second- and third-degree burns and 20 residents are out of their homes because of the fire which still is under investigation. >> governor brown says he is no longer certain the new eastern span of the bay bridge will open on labor day weekend as scheduled. the governor says the bridge will not open unless it is ready.

the governor previously dismissed concerns of the structural integrity. in addition to safety questions regarding cracking bolts used to build the span the sacramento bee reports that thousands of steel tendons to strengthen the bridge were exposed to rainfall. caltran says there is no significant corrosion but outside engineers tell the paper that the tests caltran did were "inadequate." >> the sharks take on the defending stanley cup champions, the kings, tonight in game four of the playoff series right here. the sharks won game three but trail the best of seven series 2-1, and yesterday they held practice. the mercury news reports that the sharks consider this a must-win because only 9 percent of the nhl teams that fall behind 3-1 come back to win and game time is 7:30 at home at the shark tank. today is warrior day in san francisco and this morning at 11 :30, the san francisco mayor will give a key to the city to
