>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> we experienced one of the most horrific storms and disaster in this state ever. >> oklahoma governor spoke moments ago of the death and destruction around oklahoma city from one of the most deadly tornadoes in u.s. history. good morning, i am kristen sze. >> teams are digging through the rubble sending for survivors. this is a picture in the suburb of moore. the deadly tornado dealt a direct blow to two elementary schools. here are the latest numbers, 24 killed, nine were children, 250

people injured. dozens are still hospitalized. residents are dealing with rain and hail. now more on this story. >> good morning, this what it looks like across much of moore, oklahoma, absolute devastation. everyone who lived in the homes fived but elsewhere, others were not so lucky. the monster twister tore a path of destruction 12 miles long flattening entire neighborhoods, destroying homes and leaving at least two dozen people dead. >> my god. >> the national weather service said an ef4 twister with winds up to 200 miles per hour touched down in moore, oklahoma. >> my god! >> it was dismissal time for the elementary zoom with students preparing to meet parents,

clinging to each other for support in closets and bathrooms. >> when it passed, the elementary was wiped to the foundation but everyone there survived. >> we were using precautions and we moved to the boys and girls bathroom. >> elsewhere, children were dug from the rubble and carrying them to safety. moore resident rushed the family into a storm cellar as he videotaped the tornado that destroyed the home. the kids were terrified. but they are safe. >> they had tears streaming and trying to keep it together. >> despite the death and devastation the governor vows the state will bounce back. >> oklahoma has gone through this a couple of times and we are resilient and strong and courageous people.

>> 24 people were killed, more than 240 others were injured. many of those who were able to walk away from the tornado came back today to try to sal acknowledge a little they could from the rubble that used to be their home. back to you. >> marcy, thank you, president obama addressed the nation this morning saying oklahoma must get the resources it needs right away. in fact. the head of fema arrived in oklahoma and the president also marks the loss of young lives. >> among the victims were young children trying to take shelter in the safest place they knew, their school. our prayers are with the people of oklahoma today. >> amid the death and devastation, emotional moments from survivors, parents and children finding each other and crews hard at work not giving up home. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo has more on that. katie? >> the fire chief says crews

will search the entire community at least two more times to make sure no survivors or victims have been overlooked. plenty of families are counting their blessings. par. s -- parents and teachers trying to account for all the children in moore, oklahoma. >> i have now do god helped the teacher lift the wall east kids. >> they scoured the other school hit by the massive twister, plaza towers. >> some of the walls physical -- fell over the children. children from the school are among the dead. >> it is very solemn. everyone is just doing their best to continue the recovery effort. >> the efforts include search dogs. they are climbing through what is let of a bowling alley, hundreds of building and homes are destroyed and people who

last everything know it is not what is important. >> i was asking god to spare me and he did. he saw fit to see me through another day. >> before the sun came up on this, the day after, hundreds of oklahoma national guard troops searched for survivors in the dark of night. >> this allows us to see holes, warm bodies, people in the dark, night vision equipment, too. >> and navy reservists raised an american flag from the rubble a sign of hope that more survivors might be found. >> we are seeing signs of generosity. oklahoma city thunder star is pledging $1 million for tornado relief and home depot foundation has created a $1 million weather impact fund. >> thank you, our meteorologist mike nicco has tracked the path of the tornado and more weather today. >> that hard hit town is getting pounded by rain and hail on top of everything else. mike? >> we have- the live doppler 7d

out of oklahoma city and it is updating as we speak but it is showing that around moore and to newcastle they are dealing with thunderstorms again. you can see the areas shaded in pink a severe thunderstorm watch so conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms that have damaging straight line winds and large hail. to the south, from the red river valley to baylor or waco, texas, we have a tornado watch and we have the best chance of seeing not a repeat but seeing some tornadoes. i don't think we will get a repeat of yesterday that is once in a generation type things. you can see one more chunk of energy riding across the front as it stalled and you know how close they are to the gulf. the moisture is feeding the storms. heavy flooding, and hail, and up to golfball sized and winds up to 70 miles per hour, and a small chance of a tornado, too, they are not out of the woods yet. >> thank you. if you want to help victims in oklahoma, the best way is to donate to the red cross from

yesterday and i don't quite know why but i woke up very emotional. >> the two dozen people searching today faced strong, cold winds that whipped up the sand and made it tough to see. his step mother is relieved to hope and determination. he has two little brothers, five and nine, living in portland and they just found out this morning he is missing. they are just waiting to hear news. the step mother is hoping maybe he is disoriented and begging everyone to keep an eye out for him and get a good look at his picture or look at your bay do breakers pictures and maybe you have something in your images that can put together what happened. i will get an e-mail from the family right now that you can send the pictures to if you think you have something, so if you think you can help check out

to santa clara are waiting for the big announcement coming shortly on whether the bay area will host super bowl 50. nfl owners are meeting right now just finished listening to the 49ers presentation on whether to hole it at new 49ers stadium built in santa clara. this is new video from this morning. it shows the construction is well underway, so, abc7 news reporter is outside santa clara city hall. is there excitement or nervousness in the air? >> a little bit of both. the mayor is here for a viewing party and so are a few dozen fans at the santa clara city hall. the mayor is optimistic he -- they are going to get it but he is superstitious. we will find out from the nfl owners soon in the hour. they are taking part in the voting process choosing between miami and the 49ers new stadium to host super bowl 50. many believe the bay area has the advantage because miami did

not get the funding to re-do the stadium and the nfl network is reporting that miami and san francisco wrapped up the presentation and it sounds like houston is still presenting. the losing city between miami and santa clara for super bowl 50 will go up against houston for the right to host super bowl 51. no matter which gets it, it is big bucks. the santa clara mayor said it could bring up to $500 million to the bay area college and prestige. >> we are talking about the 50th super bowl so we are talking about a super bowl but it is the golden jubilee. our city image it not completed and we are competing for the biggest prize in the nfl. it is a great vindication for the dream and vision and the people that voted to support us on this venture. the construction is four months ahead schedule and almost done and right now workers are putting in the fiber optics infrastructure to be the most

here is the red one, yesterday, look how similar they started out together and they diverged a little bit as they went through the heart of moore but, still, a couple hundred of feet from each other and it was two miles wide to get an idea of how devastating the folks are feeling now if they lived through both of those. at home, we do not have to worry about that but we have live doppler 7 hd if anything develops and it is showing just dry air. we will talk about the winds, fastest at sfo at 32 miles per hour, or 20 at san carlos and around 15 miles per hour range in oakland and hayward and up to the same thing in concord and napa and santa rosa, so these are the sustained wins with gusts up to 35 or 45 near the bay shoreline and the coastline and the other big story, look at these temperatures, we are double digit coolers, 12 at san jose, and 13 degrees colder at

can cord, and 18 at santa rosa. we are stuck in the 60's but around los gatos and inland in the 70's and we are still only 57 at half moon bay. as we look at downtown, oakland, this morning from the emeryville camera, high definition figure, by the afternoon hours we will be 14 to 18 degrees cooler-than-average and we are on track headed through 11:00 and downtown san jose there is beautiful sunshine over your neighborhoods and we will have that, sunshine today, and the cool wimbledons, in fact the cool breezes hang out through at least thursday and when we get calmer weather we will see a slow warming trend as we head through the weekend. look how quickly that front blew which and then the jet stream is coming straight down from alaska and flow appear the pressure and notice the difference in the pressure between the two. these are lines of constant pressure as we measure them between the high pressure and the low pressure the tighter they are, the more they are, the faster the winds blow and that is why who are getting such a

refreshing push of cool air that will keep us in the upper 60's to low 70's, and mid-to-upper 60's on the peninsula and 60 at half moon bay and everyone else is in the upper 60's. low-to-mid 50's downtown, and south sausalito and low-to-mid 70's through the north bay and most of the east bay shore, union city, fremont, getting a little bit further inland and you will get near 70 and we will have mid-70's for most the east bay valley. it is always breezy at at&t park and it will be more is, tone, and it will be cooler with 59 dropping down to 54 degrees for the nationals and the giants. temperatures keep dropping but it will not be so dramatic, three or four degrees tomorrow, a couple more degrees on thursday, and we will plain out with below average temperatures on sunday and a slight warming trend starts on monday. >> big excitement over "dancing with the stars" finale and the bay area contestant who could
