>> i couldn't leave the other kids. they are all special to me and i couldn't leave them. >> tales of hope and heroism in a community standing strong in a town reduced to rubble. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. tonight people in moore, oklahoma are vowing to rebuild. our coverage begins with andy. >> just in the last few minutes authorities say there were no more unaccounted for children in moore, but it is not clear if that means any missing children have been found dead or alive. so for the moment the death toll remains at 24.

tonight even in all this rubble and in the darkness the search continues. rainy, dreary weather failed to dampen the resolve of moore, oklahoma residents trying to salvage pieces of their shatter ited lives. >> they were under our bed. >> or the tenacity of the search and rescue crews prying through every inch of rubble looking for those still missing. >> we are trying to find any shelters that are covered up or anyone trapped in place. >> businesses and homes flattened and mangled cars amid the piles of rubble and virtually this entire oklahoma city suburb obliterated. the destruction is overwhelmed. >> just moved in two weeks ago. it is a beautiful neighborhood. i don't even know where to begin. >> the national weather service now says monday's massive tornado was an ef5 twister packing winds of 200

miles an hour. everyone at briar wood got out t plaza towers five miles away they did not. at least seven children died and many others are still missing. agonizing moments for parents waiting for word of their loved ones. >> they will not declare the structure clear until they are down to the ground and been through every piece of rubble in the building. >> residents are resilient and rebuilt after a major tornado hit here in 1999 and they say they will do it again. secretary of homeland security janet napal napolitano will be here. abc7 news, in moore, oklahoma. >> some of the most compelling image is of children waiting to reunite with their parents. this was the scene at briar wood elementary you just heard about. they were captured in this video walking away. she is a teacher at the school, her daughter is a student.

>> i knew that if i was taken then all of the little babies underneath me would be gone too. i held on for dear life until the wall fell on top of me and knocked me out. >> i tried to move the bricks off my leg and it hurt so much and i was like -- the tornado had not left yet and i was screaming help, my leg and no one could hear me. >> what a sweet girl. jordan and her mom were okay and so was everyone else at the school. more on the tornado on "nightline" where you will see one block of neighbors and how they made it through the worst case scenario. that's on "nightline" at 12:35. people in the bay area are already pitching in to help the oklahoma tornado victims. take a look at the scene outside the hp pavilion where the sharks foundation selected cash donation from fans on their way into the playoff

morning. you can see why. the winds right now are gusting to 38 miles an hour and 35 novato and 38 half moon bay. the strongest winds near the coast are 56 mile an hour wind gusts whipped sfo a short time ago. if you have a flight you are taking out of sfo in the morning it could be breezy and could see some delays. also on the cool side. make sure you grab a coat or jacket. i'll let you know how high -- how cool the highs are going to get. family members are grieving all over again after learning their loved ones' cremated remains may have been washed away by firefighters putting out a blaze at cream for yum. john alston joins us request the impact on -- join us with the impact on one family. >> carolyn, the hernandez family was set to hold a service tomorrow morning to celebrate the life of a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and would have

turned 98 years old tomorrow. instead tonight they are sad and angry and they are at a loss at how to memorialize her life. the family took us to the place where they believe the ashes of their grandmother washed away. the crematorium. >> breathing all over again. we thought we would have my grandmother's place to rest and we don't know where she is at. >> she died in march and was cremated. her ashes were stored in the cream for yum until the family could hold a service. but last wednesday morning a three-alarm fire broke out as two other bodies were being cremated. yesterday the family got a call from the cemetery saying the ashes of their 97-year-old may tree yark and 15 other people were washed away by fire hoses needed to put out the flames. >> we were prepared to do a ceremony for my mother. right now we are speechless.

>> the plan was to keep her remains near her late husband, edwardo who is buried in mexico and would have been moved to cypress lawn. >> my mother say if i die, i want my husband to be with me. i said i promise. the family was lead to believe the ashes were being stored in a main cemetery building on the other side of el el camino real. the cemetery president said there were no other remains being stored at the crematorium. john alston, abc news. a brushfire in san jose got close to homes before firefighters put it out. sky 7hd shows the fire. a spark from a lawn mower likely touched it off. it spread to more than an acre before firefighters got it under control. and in san jose a chain reaction lead to three fires in one neighborhood. it started when downed power lines set a tree house on

fire. it spread to one home's roof on warner drive. firefighters say an ember then landed on another roof on morris drive sparking a fire there. sky 7hd was overhead. crews put out all of the fires in two hours. the nfl gave the bay area a multimillion-dollar present. >> the super bowl has been awarded to san francisco. >> loud cheers after the official announcement that the niners will host super bowl 50 in 2016. abc news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the impact of the decision. lisa? >> carolyn, this stadium will open in 2014 and now that we know super bowl 50 will be played right here, that means a huge economic boost for the region. to the tune of, get this, $150 to 400 million. the facebook pages are up and the likes are coming in and

santa clara is celebrating its big win as super bowl 50's host city in 2016. in city council chambers, the celebration continued and the planning begins. the super bowl host committee will start organizing this massive event. >> this super bowl is going to see advice torse -- visitors beyond the four-day average and we will plan before the super bowl and after the super bowl. >> part of the bid was the approach to make it a regional event. there will be celebrations all over the bay area. >> every hotel space will be filled. the the shops and the restaurants will be filled and the small businesses will have their cash registers over flowing as people flow in here. >> the idea is to follow in the steps of indianapolis' super bowl committee when they hosted the game last year the celebrations lasted a record nine days, and they were the first host city to create a super bowl village. >> i would encourage your

san jose. cool in half moon bay and 50 degrees. the view from our camera is looking at the trans america pyramid financial district and looking fine. the temperatures are 55 in napa and santa rosa and 53 in union city. check out the view and it is still pretty breezy out there and in someplaces like sfo and the gusts close to 40 miles an hour and we will continue with the gusty winds. sunny, breezy and cool tomorrow with below average temperatures right on through the end of the workweek. check out the high temperatures, just a sampling for tomorrow. compare them to average and we are falling short. 71 and should be 75 and 4 degrees cooler than normal. oakland is 9 degrees below the average of 76 tomorrow. san jose should be 76, but it is going to come in at 70 tomorrow which is 6 degrees below normal for this time of year. there was a reason for all of
