>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> sky 7 shows the seen of a bizarre horrifying deadly accident on international state 580 between tracy and livermore. the c.h.p. says the driver was killed after a metal rod smashed through his windshield and impaled him in the driver's seat this morning on the highway between tracy and livermore. >> good morning, we will get right to abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield near the scene. >> c.h.p. is calling this a freak accident. an officer who is very close to

retirement told me he has never seen anything like this during his entire career. here is the view from above from sky 7 of 580. a 33-year-old man from the sacramento area was westbound on 580 before grant line road at the tracy and livermore border at 8:11 and a 2' 3' long rod went through his windshield and impaled him and killed him. >> we believe it came off of a big rig. it appears to be the type of bar used to tie down the loads and came loose and went through the windshield of the vehicle. i don't believe we will ever be able to find the vehicle that was associated with this. they are not marked with anything, no names of companies on them. >> right now, the c.h.p. officers do not have any witnesses so they are asking if anyone saw this happen to please

stop and call it in. this disrupted the busy corridor through the altamont pass for a couple of hours. they had to shut down one lane for two hours. they just opened it and traffic is starting to open back up. no one else was hurt in the accident. officers say this highlights the importance of securing the truckloads. >> thank you. strong wents blasted the bay area overnight causing minor damage and closing some roads. in san francisco, city officials had to should down the great highway from lincoln boulevard after beach sand clogged the roadway. in millbrae, huge winds sent a huge branch on a car last night and the branch shattered the window but fortunately no one was hurt. in mill valley, crews worked to remove fallen trees from power lines here highway one, a high wind advisory was in effect on

bay and carquinez bridge this morning but they have been canceled. >> still gusty out there. >> we will compare how fast the winds are. >> we have potential for 30 to 40 knot-mile-per-hour wind at sfo and you multiply that by 1.15 and you get miles per hour. the airport weather warning has just been reissued for sfo because of the fastest wins shoot through the gap and nail sfo. you are gusting to 8 and 20 around oakland and hayward and novato and 28 in santa rosa at the fastest. now, this morning, i am doing this where most of usually, we had faster gusts on mount diabolo and half moon bay at 32 and treasure island 32 for the mariners. and 25 degrees or faster is the wind speed this afternoon. we will have that again this

afternoon. >> president obama plans to visit oklahoma this coming sunday to see the damage from the monster tornado that tore through a town with 24 people killed and the number of children who died has been adjusted to ten, including two infants. the preliminary dam could be more than $2 billion. homeland security secretary than attend is meeting with state and local officials. our news reporter brings us the latest. >> what a difference 48 hours makes. crews are now putting up telephone poles around the neighborhood and they are starting to clean out the devastated hospital and all around it feel like thing are starting to spring back to life. a sure sign of the recovery, a family comes home this morning to their dallased home and finds their cat in the rubble. >> this as volunteers spread out over oklahoma delivering food and comfort to resident would lost everything in the devastating tornado. hundreds of state and federal

officials are on the ground setting up disaster recovery centers that will provide aid to victims as they assess their losses. >> in furniture, nothing left. we are saving a few pictures here and there. >> rescue dogs are searching every house up to three times to make sure that no one is buried under the rubble or trapped in a storm shelter. amid the debris, stories of survival like kim who ran in the hospital when the huge cloud came forward. >> we huddled. i was over a little girl. the roof started coming in and i grabbed the roof and put it over the gill and i laid on her. all the windows exploded. >> the hospital took a direct hit and so did two schools. the buildings were devastated with different outcomes. at briarwood, everyone survived. some believe the school's construct played a role in the miracle ending. each grade is organized into

pods and in the middle of each pod an opening to the outdoors that serves at the escape route when the walls chanced but seven children died at the other school, plaza towers, a more traditional building. when the roof collapsed there were though open spaces to crawl to safety. >> officials have canceled classes for the school year but graduation will go on. back to you. >> thank you. a vice inspection at san francisco international airport this morning, the c.h.p. and other agencies joined together to ensure passenger safety in the wake of the deadly limousine fire on the san mateo bridge this month. we show you how serious an operation this is. matt? >> you can see how big it, with a big line of all types of passenger vehicles, with vans, limousines, buses, shuttles, and town cars. c.h.p. says this inspection is necessary because of the

horrific consequences when businesses and drivers do not make safety their top priority. >> drivers of passenger vehicles had an up expected stop today at fog, many weres cored by police from the terminal to the parking lot for inspection. >> taking too much time out of the day? >> we must work. you cannot stop working. you know? if you stop working you lose money. >> the surprise inspection comes after the limousine fire on the san mateo bridge that killed five people. c.h.p. said they are not releasing any new details on the investigation. although many were thinking of the tragedy today be the c.h.p. says these inspections are not uncommon. >> there is always an importance as it relates to passenger transportation so this isn't anything unusual but being close to the incident i can understand where it could have the perception. this is something that we do on

a consistent basis throughout the year. >> the multiagency strike force was checking for vehicle defects, drivers with too many hours behind the wheel and the proper permits and licenses. some drivers say it takes too much time while others understood the need for the inspections. >> it is good. they making sure everything right. >> i am pissed off because i am over here stopped and i have another pickup and now i am stuck over here. >> i was given latest numbers from this morning, the san francisco police department and c.h.p. have issued 14 citations, and there have been a couple of misdemeanors for license violations and 20 written add modishment. >> sheriff deputies were at the power station in south san jose after getting reports of a man wandering in that area, the same power station that was vandalized last month by someone who fired a high powered rifle at transformers.

>> we have breaking news from london where an official says a violent attack is investigating as a possible terrorist act. it happened this morning near a military training barracks in london and one person has died and two others are injured. prime minister cameron says the killing is "truly shocking." they called an emergency meeting in response. >> happening now, the f.b.i. is investigating a deadly confrontation between agents and a florida man being questioned about his connection to boston marathon bombings suspect tamerlan tsarnaev. the 27-year-old suspect was about to confess to an unsolved triple murder in massachusetts when he pulled out a knife and stabbed an f.b.i. agent several times. it happened early this morning at a complex in orlando. the suspect was shot and killed. the agent is expected to be okay. sources say three was about to sign a statement implicating himself and tan -- tamerlan

tsarnaev in a 2007 triple murder. >> supervisors are considering a proposal to add an extra fee for sporting and entertainment events, added on to the regular price of tickets and would be between $1 and $3 and apply to giants games and events at a waterfront arena and large festivals such as outside land. supervisors say the revenue from the fee would go to maintaining the muni system. >> the wind, not so comfortable? >> hopefully it will relax and that will be the trend for the weekend. from sutro tower at the presidio and to point reyes the wind has calmed down but coming back and the cooling trend will hack around for a long-term and could culminate with light train in the seven-day forecast. >> just a casual stroll through a southern california neighborhood, no big deal, but the wanderer is a bear.

>> in southern california, a young bear startled folks running around a neighborhood for quite a while before it was caught. look at this, katie marzullo has been follow this story and joins from the newsroom. >> he got in and out a lot of tight places. someone said, better than a car chase. you will have to decide. the bear covered a lot of ground and had closen counters with domestic animals along the way. >> it is wandering, again. >> a view of a bear and play-by-play from the helicopter pilot. >> pretty far south. >> this is sun valley, where homes have swimming pools, refreshing, properties have horses, and backyards are full of all kinds of places for a curious bay. >> down in the cellar. >> through fences and over walls the bear is unstoppable, but when he decides to stop in the

bushes, now watch the sliding door at the top your screen. >> this is someone coming out. my goodness. did they know there was a bear in the bushes? we don't know but they ran back in the house quickly. at one point, a giant dog is chased pushing the bear to the police officers but he slipped through and continued on. >> i don't want to play with him. >> upstairs and through wide open spaces this bear could cruise forever but officers have other ideas, and they brought the bear's adventure to an end with a tranquilizer dart and dragged his drugged body from beyond the potted palms and loaded him into a truck. >> fish and wildlife will release the bear about again months into the national forest and a spokesman for the department says that the bear would likely was lured into the neighborhood by the smell of food. >> katie, thank you. >> we have breaking sports news.

hike, 51 degrees as you get up there in elevation and everyone else in the san ramon valley, mid-60's and danville, and 68, and in dublin 62, and pittsburgh and antioch, and redwood city a warm spot and pleasant hill, at 68 and richmond district is 53 and novato is only 58 and same in san mateo so we are cooler right now than we were this time yesterday. yesterday, it was the big dramatic drop but we will continue to drop temperatures today under the sunny conditions, the cool breeze will undercut the sunshine and a beautiful picture downtown, cooler-than-average temperatures and probably most of the week and we will see a slow warming trend but it is looking like wednesday, thursday, maybe friday of next week, the gusts will be close enough that light rain is possible, a week away and it is may so don't hold your breath but it is something we will watch. here is the big story besides the wind. the temperatures are two to eight degrees

cooler-than-average this afternoon, here is the reason why we are in the depth of the cold air mass that came yesterday and you can see the low and the high pressure close enough to each other they funneling a stray shot cooler air down from canada and this pattern will persist through probably tomorrow and to a lesser extent into friday and friday the breeze is back up and the temperatures will stay in this range upper 60's or low 70's and los gatos and morgan hill and gilroy the deeper in the santa clara valley, low-to-mid 70's, and drop through the upper 60's to the mid-60's northbound toward san mateo and millbrae and a raw day at the coast with the sunshine and only mid-to-upper 50's with the low 60's around downtown and south san francisco and sausalito and upper 60's in the north pay and valleys but mid to upper 50's at the beaches and only mid-to-upper 60's along the east bay shoreline and try to get near 70 at hercules and castro valley and treatment and more likely 70's in the east bay valley where you get the wind

coming up through crow canyon and through the canyon and it keeps you cooler than everyone else. a day game at at&t park and people tailgating, possibly, and nationals and giants last game of the set and it will be breezy and sunny and 58 to start, about 62 at the end of the game. we will talk temperatures phone, and we will be in the 50's around richmond and oak, just about everyone else in the 40's so another cool night and maybe great sleeping weather and it was probably hard to get up because it was so refreshingly cool in the house they didn't want to get out from under the covers and it will be that way tomorrow. thursday and friday, temperatures into saturday and sunday, all about normal if not below and the slow warming trend on monday and tuesday with no wild temperature swings in the pattern until a week and a half or two weeks. >> layers are good. want to hear about a free and fun event? warriors can celebrate the winning season and playoff run, a fan rally will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. at oracle arena with, paing
