>> 2 major breaking news stories tonight. 5.7 quake has hit northern california just east of redding. there are no injuries reported so far. >> and in washington state you are looking at live pictures where a bridge on i-5 collapsed taking several cars with it. right into the water. immediately frantic search to get people out of the water. >> the skagit bridge located about 60 miles north of seattle near mount vernon. we are in the newsroom with the latest for us amma. >> let's go back to the live pictures from the scene. you can see where the bridge collapsed into the water. there are workers on the part of the bridge that is still

standing. see the flashing lights of rescue crew off to the right. fortunately authorities say no if a utility or suspected fatality from the bridge collapse in washington but major highway bridge that came crashing down during the evening commute. dive team rescuers on boats race against the setting sun and swift kurpts on the skagit river to bring survivors to shore. 150 yards of the bridge inmribing bring gave way plunging vehicle and people inside them 120 feet that the water below. some drivers who survived the drop climbed out of the cars and sat on the roof of the vehicle awaiting rescue. authorities say at least 3 people were brought to shore and taken to area hospitals. at least 2 cars and travel trailer fell into the river. reporter on scene spoke with a witness about the amount of traffic likely open the bridge when it collapsed. >> busy lake a lot of people working commute, you know, through here. a lot. and it's always busy travelers. from

meaning the design is outdated. >> now to our other breaking story. after shock keep rocking northern california after moderate earthquake shook the northeast part of the state tonight. it was felt as far south as napa. magnitude 5.7 quake hit just before 9 this evening near greenville in the sierra east of redding about 250 miles northeast of san francisco. take a look at the survillains video as the quake hit. this is a grocery store in greenville. more than a dozen after shocks have followed ranging from 3.5 to 2.5 and she describes how it felt at the epi-center. >> first one, i thought a plane was coming. so you knowed like maybe a plane was crashing. we live in very rural area. we have a gas station here and we built a home here and i felt like a plane was coming down so all of a sudden i went to, first i heard the noise then husband is a one level house.

you. >> we are following breaking news from:) metal of what was once the skagit bridge which collapsed into the water way below at around 7:00 o'clock tonight. right now the search effort on the river have ended for the night. we are told there are no fatalityment 3 cars plummeted into the water and emergency officials rescued 3 people got them all out. apparently all taken to the hospital for their injuries. they are in stable condition again no fatalities that is the good news. there are witness reports that maybe a truck hit part of the bridge and that is perhaps what caused it.
