river. when the bridge went down last night after the evening commute, two cars and three people were plunlged into the water. all three survived. dan sly is one of them. he was with his wife. listen as he describes what happened before they were rescued. >> shoulder was dislocated at that point. my truck top was caved in. couldn't see my wife in the passenger's seat. i asked her if she was okay. she wasn't responding. popped my shoulder back in so i could get over to her. unbuckled her and pulled her into my side, which had less water. >> scary stuff. dan has that dislocated shoulder and cuts. his wife suffered internal bleeding, everyone's going to be all right. all three victims were treated for hypothermia. the washington department of transportation has not determined the official cause, but officials are looking into

whether an oversized box caused it. washington's governor spoke overnight. he says he is fairly confident money will be, will not be problem, that they will find a way to replace this bridge as quickly as possible. >> thank you. the bridge runs two lanes in each of the northbound and southbound directions. 70,000 cars travel across this every day. it was built in 1955. it was designated functionally obsolete and that means the bridge design is outdated. more developing news from northern california. when the sun comes up, officials will be able to determine if a magnitude 5.7 earthquake caused any damage. it hit near the town of greenville. matt keller is live at usgs

headquarters in menlo park with more. >> scientists here in menlo park had a busy night and morning. they were tracking several aftershocks, including a 4.9 that hit just after 1:00 this morning. i checked the website and it shows there was another aftershock in just a past 20 minutes. a 2.8 that hit in that same area. let's check out some surveillance video. the earthquake hit before 9:00 last night. this is the grocery store where the quake was centered. more than 25 aftershocks have followeded. >> first, i heard the noise, then my house, it's a one-level house, it shook unbelievably. it shook and pictures started falling. things in my china cabinet, my

scout leaders took the vote yesterday. the debate began in the east bay where -- was denied the eagle scout rank. not all parents support the change. sky johnson says he'll pull his 8 and 10-year-old sons out of scouting. >> first time kids are given discussion to talking about these topics. some parents object to that. >> our mission is to serve every kid. we want every kid to have a place where they belong and can learn and grow and feel protected. >> the question about whether to allow gay adults and leaders, that was not considered. gay rights groups plan to keep pressuring the organization to allow gay members of all ages. park directors have voted to allow bikes aboard all trains for the next few months. the board backed away from a

recommendation to make the policy permanent. for now, bikes will be allowed on all but the first three hours. the new trial period starts in july. some board members say they need more time to evaluate. this morning, a united airlines baggage handler at sfo faces charges of stealinging valuables from passengers checked luggage. 45-year-old george reyes was caught in a sting. investigators attached gps devices on valuables placed in luggage. some disappeared and were later traced to his home. he victimized 50 people dating back to march, when passengers started reporting missing electroni electronics. caltran says it's confident its plan to work around defective bolts on the bridge will be a success.

hundreds of steel wires will eventually fill those holes. those wires will anchor steel saddles like the one shown here. the saddles will compensate for 32 broken steel bolts. this system is designed to keep the bridge safe in a major earthquake. if you haven't booked a camp site at a california state park, you may be out of luck. nearly 27,000 nights have been booked for this weekend. an all time high. more campers are staying longer than before. if you're scrambling to score a camp site, you may want to look inland and north. beach and coastal campgrounds fill up first and are likely full for the three-day weekend. speaking of which, this three-day weekend, a look at the weather. >> it's going to be a cool one, mike. >> absolutely. look at the forest hill neighborhood. 44 degrees.

welcome back. a new showdown between google and the u.s. government. bloomberg is reporting the federal trade commission may launch an anti trust prove into whether the tech giant is illegally curving competition. the question is whether google is using its dominance unfairly. canada is gettinging ready to start a formal investigation into google's search practice. an international man hunt is focused on a california man accused of four murders of people in the czech republicic. it happened southeast of prague. we have more on the 21-year-old suspect who only left for the czech republic a short time ago. >> chuck, authorities say kevin dahlgren brutally killed four relatives. a neighbor in burno says they

were really decent, social, honest and happy and about the man who lived with them, i don't know much, but people say he was related. police say he cut the throats of his aunt, aung l and two cousins and then set the house on fire. according to dahlgren's facebook page, he changed his current city to burno on may 6th. he also liked this band. ♪ ukulele orchestra. the band confirmed two of its members were killed wednesday night. now, all scheduled shows have been canceled and fans are posting notes of sorrow on the band's facebook page. >> he knows that his family was just murdered and he's scared to death that he's next. he doesn't know why all of this happened. >> the suspect's friends in granite bay insist kevin is innocent. they say he's a kind man who wanted to live a simple life in europe.

>> there are breaking developments in that man hunt for dahlgren. according to sky news, he was detained overnight by police in washington, d.c. as he came back to the u.s. working to gather more information and we'll bring you new details when they become available. final preparations are underway for this weekend's carnival parade in san francisco. san francisco's hard at work nd mission high school, one of the dozens of colorful groups that will parade through the mission. this year's event was in limbo until recently. it has grown so large, organizers couldn't come up with the $1 million needed to finance the two-day party, but after a round of phone calls, they managed to drum up enough support. >> we're going to have our event this year and it's amazing you know, because they pulled things together and made things occur and it's going to be a great event. it's going to be a great event. >> the carnival festival kicks

off tomorrow. the grandpa raid is on sunday morning. the theme is harlem shake. >> the concerns about money problems came up earlier this year at a meet ng the mission. if your group would like to team up with abc 7 to host our next meeting, just go to our community page. it's 4:45 now, but the company that operates the country's biggest ariel firefighters is moving out of california. ten tank er air carriers operating two dc 10 inverted passenger planes modified to drop 11,000 gallons of fire retardant. they're moving to wyoming. that means the air tankers will be a two hour flight from california. the company decided to make the move after they ended an exclusive contract for the planes. cal fire is reminding us to

30 knots out of the northwest. that is in effect through saturday evening, so that has been extended all the way through the daylight hours saturday. beautiful picture once again, the nearly full moon, sunny today, still breezy in a few spots, but not as widespread as it has been. cooler this holiday weekend with a chance of rain monday into tuesday. that area of low pressure still up to our north, but we're going to focus on the storms out to our west. there it is. out just south of the aleutian islands. you can see it bringing that chance of rain monday and increasing as we head into the afternoon hours. thankfully, it will come in to the back half. 62 today in san francisco. mid to upper 60s around the bay.

over towards fremont between south mission and north mission boulevard, that's going to be at least until 6:00 a.m. this morning as well. want to remind you for the memorial day weekend, the great highway is shut down. here's your drive on 280 coming away from 17. it's a brisk drive into cupertino. a new video shows the moments after two terror suspects allegedly hacked a bridge soldier to death in the streets of london. wednesday's attack happened in broad daylight. the suspect seen yielding a bloody cleaver is a muslim of nigerian decent. he runs towards police as they arrive and gets within two feet of the driver. an officer in the backseat fired his weapon, hitting the suspect. another officer shoots the another suspect who was aiming a handgun at him. two other people have been arrested in connection with this

attack. cybersecurity officials say somebody's been hacking into the computer networks running u.s. energy companies. they believe the hackers are backed by the iranian government. the hackers have been able to break into networks and potentially take over oil and gas pipelines. china based hackers targeted intellectual property and spy agencies. officials say targeting the oil and gas infrastructure could cause more damage. coming up, the trendy new drink that isn't really a new drink. why doctors say you should just stay away from it. an

d disney parks will be open 24 hours straight starting this morning. disneyland here in california will open at 6:00 this morning through 6:00 tomorrow morning. many people camped out overnight. guests will get to take part in some special movie events and get their hands on limited merchandise. disney is the parent company of nbc 7. one bay area man has a new way to has a new way to show his sweetheart. he created a special engagement ring for his fiancee that lights up when he's around. the 36-year-old spent five months perfecting the ring before giving it to his fiancee. hidden inside are tiny l.e.d.s which light up when coax is nearby. he says the transmitter on the band that makes the ring light

palo alto damaging the walgreens drugstore and sandwich shop. 51-year-old donald ray williams was caught on camera climbing up the side of the building just before the fire started. a judge ordered her to pay $28 million in restitution. an arrest has been made in connection with this fire that threatened some homes in san jose on tuesday. it was originally blamed on a spark from a lawn moor, but now, the fire department says a juvenile is in custody with conduction of the fire. you've heard of the dangers associat associated with binge drinking. the new trend, bartenders mix alcohol with try ice and they inhale. do doctors say this is dangerous
