friday. thanks for joini ining us. >> first up, a check on the weather forecast. mike? >> we're looking at pretty quiet weather. picking up a little bit of cloud cover, but no rain right now. that's still in the forecast for monday. so, let's talk about what's going to happen today as we look at emoryville this morning, where it's pretty clear. we're watching sunshine and breezes that won't be as fast as they were yesterday. our warmest weather inland and this is the one area where we could see an uptick in temperatures. 60 in san francisco to about 66 in oakland. about 70 in san jose and our coolest conditions along the coast. that's where it will be breezy. let's talk about traffic. >> so far, it looks like we are accident free across the bay area. if you're traveling northbound along 680 between south mission boulevard, north mission

boulevard, three lanes remap closed. until 6:00 a.m. this morning. the great highway now for the memorial day weekend, going to be shut dpoown until further notice. we have this construction project that's clearing up. this is bridge work even though the bridge is farther to the north. we will see that closure until 6:00 a.m. your walnut creek is looking nice and clear. that's also a beautiful shot. southbound 680, not too shabby. >> the usgs is tracking dozens of aftershocks after a 5.8 earthquake struck a rural community in northern california. the quake hit just before 9:00 last night. pretty intense shaking. there's the grocery store in greenville where the quake was centered. dozen of aftershocks continued

this morning. >> the house started gently shifting, rocking back and forth for about five or ten seconds. the lamp shade started rocking. nothing major, nothing fell off, but it was a good five or ten seconds of the house shifting gently back and forth. >> matt keller is at a usgs headquarters in menlo park and will have a live update for us. this quake is a good reminder for us to be prepared for a major disaster. we have posted guidelines for stocking your emergency kit and developing an emergency plan for your family at abc7 news.com. we'll continue to follow the quake and aftershock throughout the morning and updates on twitter. another eric arthquake to t you about. an 8.2 hit between the coast of japan and russia.

there's word the quake could be felt for five minutes and many people in the region ran into the streets. it hit along the ring of fire. more now on developing news in washington state where federal transportation officials are on route to help state engineers figure out what caused a bridge to collapse tossing vehicles and drivers into the chil chilly waters north of seattle. >> the washington department of traps has not determined the official cause of the crash. but they're looking into whether or not whether a box truck might have hit the structure. a state trooper says they have found the truck they think might have hit the bridge and that driver is cooperating with investigators. so, take a look at the scene around 7:00 last night. when the bridge went down, two cars and three people were plunged into the water. one man has a dislocated shoultder and some cuts. his wife suffered internal bleeding, but none of the

injuries were life threatening. washington's governor spoke overnight say iing the bridge wl be rebuilt. >> this is for the economy in washington. it's job number one for all of us. i would assume we'll have good bipartisan work to make sure this bridge the restored as quickly as possible. >> the bridge is old. it was built in 1955. state officials inspected it last november and found it to be safe, but it is listed as functionally obsolete. it means the design is outdated to handle modern traffic. the team should arrive on scene in washington later today. > . heavy rains, hail and flooding continue to hamper recovery efforts from the devastating tornado in oklahoma. flash floods have blocked streets in oklahoma city yesterday.

it appears debris from the tornado clogged storm trains. people in oklahoma city and more face a huge task rebuilding the many homes, schools and businesses damaged or destroyed by the tornado. fixing that damage will cost an estimated $2 billion. the medical examiner has officially set the death toll at 24. this morning, san francisco police continue to investigate a deadly collision between a garbage truck and bicyclist. both the truck and male biker were traveling in the mission district yesterday morning. the garbage truck made a right turn and the cyclist collided with its bike tires. he was pronounced dead on the scene. he wasn't wearing a helmet. the truck driver is cooperating. alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the accident. under a state order, the city of oakland has returned more than $43 million from the sale of the -- other properties. oakland sold the properties including the kaiser convention

center to a street development agency in 2011 to match the city budget deficit. proceeds from the sale were then move from the redevelopment agency to city coffers. the contra costa times reports state regulators rejected a multi-million dollar accounting gimmick. new this morning, a jury decided to decide today if a silicon valley software engineer was insane when he killed three managers. the same jury convicted -- in march of three counts of first degree murder. they say he killed the company's ceo, vice president of operations and the human resources manager. the firm then laid him off as a test product engineer. black hoodies and sunglas s sunglasses. those are the disguises used by three bank robbers this week.

santa rosa police just released these photos. the trio got away in two different cars after ditching a van was stolen. a $25,000 reward is being offered in the case. we posted the picture ons our website. a san jose city college student has cashed in on power ball mania. he won $2.3 million in last week's $590 million record drawing as one of nine kids raised by a single mother, garcia says this will end their family's struggles. >> thank you. appreciate -- press conference, without any delay. >> you need to come over here.

been recorded. the latest, a 2.8 just before 5:00. a 3.8 hit at 4:40. less than an hour ago. the biggest, a 4.9 just after 1:00 this morning. what sparked all these aftershocks, the grocery store in greenville is the 5.7 earthquake hit, scientists say they'll update their aftershock probability around 9:00 this morning. they're also watching to see if this is just a sign of a bigger quake to come. >> it is possible this could be a fore shock and sometimes, we see protection of the break and it loads the next section slightly and the next section breaks and a similar size earthquake or bigger or smaller, so we just have to watch. >> scientists here at the usgs told us there are no signs the earthquakes are related to volcanic activity. we'll bring yu updates on our

cooperating with investigators. you can see the twisted steal submerged in that icy river when the bridge went down last night, two cars and three people were plunged into the water. al three survived. dan sly and his wife were on their way to a camping trip. he describes what it felt like as the bridge beneath them collapsed. >> momentum just carried us right over and as you saw the water approaching, just one of those you hold on as tight as you can and just white flash and cold water. it was definitely cold this time of the year. >> some of the victims were treated for hypothermia. dan also has a dislocated shoulder and some cuts. his wife suffered internal bleeding. the state transportation secretary is telling people to avoid interstate 5 and for the next several days. washington's governor says they're working on detours.

the nt srsb should arrive on sc later today to continue the investigation. live in the news room. just about 5:35 now. breaking news involving the capture of a bay area man wanted for a quadruple murder in the czech republic. 21-year-old kevin dahlgren has been detained at the airport in washington, d.c. as he came back into the u.s. overnight. he's wanted for killing four people in burno, the second largest city in the czech republic. the victims are said to be musicians and a teacher and related to dahlgren. police say czech authorities will seek dahlgren's extradition to bring him back to stand trial. this morning, there are groups celebrating and -- the boy scouts. scout leaders took the historic votes yesterday. the debate began in the east bay where openly gay scouts was denied the eagle scout rank even though he had done the work.

july. board members say they need more time to evaluate the change before deciding to make it permanent. >> this morning, a united airlines -- facing charges of stealing valuables. 45-year-old george reyes was caught in a police sting. some of those items disappeared and were traced to reyes' home. he victimized 50 people dating back to march when passengers started reporting missing electronics after claiming their luggage. caltran says it's confident its plan to work around defe defective bolts will work. workers are using special platforms to stand on while they drill deep into concrete containing the bolts. hundreds of steel wires will eventually fill those holes.

welcome back. a new showdown between google and the u.s. government. bloomberg is reporting the federal trade commission may launch an antitrust probe into whether they are i guess legally curbing competition. the question, whether google is using its dominance unfairly. meantime, canada is getting ready to start an investigation into google's search practices. no comment from google or the government. the company that operates the company's biggest fire fighting ariel tankers is moving out of california. a departure that could affect response time for fighting big fires. ten carrier air company operates two planes that drop 11,000 gallons of fire retardant. they are moving to casper, wyoming. that means the air tankers will be a two-hour flight from california. the company decided to move

after the state ended a contract for use of the planes. with the memorial day weekend here, cal fire is reminding us to be caution if you plan to barbecue or use fire. there have been 1600 fires this year. most of them small, but that's double the number of average fires for this time of year. if you plan on camping, check for local fire restrictions and clear a ten-foot perimeter. final preparations are underway for this weekend's carnival parade in san francisco. they are hard at work inside mission high school, one of the dozens of colorful groups that will parade through the mission. this year's event was in limbo until recently. carnival has grown so large organizers couldn't come up with the 1 million needed, but after some calls, they managed to drum up support. >> we're going to have our event this year and it's amazing. because you know, they pulled things together and made things occur. and it's going to be a great

but there's a few developing along the east bay shoreline. let's talk about the winds. they're developing over the bay waters. if you're taking off early, at 1:00 through 9:00, that's when we'll have our fastest winds. these winds will be 50 to 25 knots, gusting up to 30 knots. out at the coast, it's there and they'll continue to 11:00 tomorrow night. here's a beautiful picture. look at the colors. the morning pastels as we look back towards -- sunny today. the breezes will be out there, but won't be as widespread as they have been earlier in the week. cooler weather all the way through the weekend and that chance of rain monday and it will spill into tuesday. i'll be here both of those morngs to let you know what's going on and we'll track it with live doppler 7 hd. to the west, this one coming in, but look how long it takes.

saturday, we're fine. sunday, we start to get an onshore flow that cools us, and then monday, you see the increasing clouds and rain possible at 8:00 in the morning through the afternoon and probably more likely the afternoon into the evening hours where we have a better chance of seeing it accumulate up to a tenth of an inch. it's not a lot. it's going to be a nuisance more than anything this time of the year. we don't get beneficial rain. it's just more of a pain. 58 in the bay. 62 in san francisco. mid to upper 60s throughout the bay. 70 today san jose and san rafael and look at the mid-70s from santa rosa towards concord, livermore and antioch. for the game tonight, dress like you normally would. chilly, breezy, but clear out there. you'll get so see sunshine, then a lot of stars. as far as temperatures tonight, mid-0s to who 50s but notice the increase of clouds along the coast and into the bay. that's why we're going to start to see ta cooling trend tomorrow around the coast and the bay. then you can see the warmer

weather move inland and by monday, we've got that chance of rain and temperatures in the 50s and 60s. let's find out about your traffic. we have an update? >> we have some good news. both of the crashes we've been talking about have been cleared. we had one in bodega bay and that was involving a possible overturned vehicle. it appears all lanes have reopened and we don't see anybody out there any longer. looks like westbound traffic starting to build, but the crash eastbound just before you reach the tunnel, that has moved out of lanes and we'll be getting clear conditions as you make the drive. let's take a live look outside now and taking a peak at our golden gate bridge wharks a gorgeous site. if you're coming into san francisco, you're looking at clear conditions. we had earlier construction northbound side, that wrapped up at 5:00, so you should be out.

new video this morning shows the moments after two terror suspects allegedly hacked a bridge soldier to death in the streets of london. wednesday's attack happened in broad daylight. the suspect seen wielding a bloody cleaver is o muslim of nigerian decent. an officer in the backseat fires his weapon, hitting the suspect. another officer shoots the other suspect, who is aiming a handgun at them. the two remain under heavy guard at the hospital. two others have been arrested in connection with the asack. cybersecurity officials say somebody's been hacking into the computer networks of american energy companies. "the wall street journal" reports the hackers have been able to break over networks that could potentially take control of oil and gas pipelines. while chinese have targeted spy actsies, officials say targeting the oil and gas infrastructure
