hollyfield joins us with more. >> 69 years later, but he will be honored today here at the presidio's national cemetery in san francisco. dan franklin will receive the french legion of honor medal considered france's highest honor. he was only 17 when he played a key role in d-day. his crew was responsible to delivering soldiers and supplies to omaha beach. after a delivery pulled out the boat hit a mine which killed ten of the 12 crew members on board. he hopes that future generations will always know the significance of that day in history. they should know the sacrifice made by so many and we were successful. >> it has taken several years to prove his involvement so he could be eligible but he will

receive it today part of a memorial day ceremony, the annual event that happens at the national cemetery in san francisco's presidio and is full of flags this morning, crews are all right starting to arrive to get ready for the event starting at 10:30 and the ceremony, at 11:00. >> thank you, the remembrance the presidio is one of many memorial day ceremonies in the area. oakland's mountain view ceremony is at 10:00 this morning, and that has a ten-gun salute. great america is honoring military service men and women with free admission today. we have a link to all memorial day ceremonies on our website at abc7news.com. >> police in san jose are investigating a late night shooting that left a man dead. it happened on hayes avenue in

south san jose gist after 10:00 last night. police say officers found one man shot. he was pronounced dead at the scene. the women has not been identified. miss have not made an arrest. the shooting marks the 19th homicide of the year. >> san jose police were also investigating a shooting that happened a few hours usuallier that left two people dead on rhinehart drive before 6:30. one victim died at the scene and 9 second died at the hospital. police are looking for a "person of interest" in the shooting described as a young hispanic male who was riding a bmx bicycle. the identities of the victims have not been released. it is possible that they were both young teens. >> this morning, pg&e is trying to determine the cause of a power outage that knocked out electricity to 1,000 in oakland after 7:00 p.m. last night and it took several hours to get power restored. in san francisco, 100 pg&e

customers still do nut have power a day after fire damaged transformers and power poles. nine transformers on power lines caught fire all over the city yesterday morning, and a live wire actually dropped on a man's car as he backed out of the car. the fires were caused when drizzle turned dust buildup into mud on the transformers. >> there was a small explosion and i saw a spark coming from the area on the pole and suddenly this wire came down across my car on the hood. >> when there is a mist or drizzle such as today, that can lead to mud and when you have the mud that is a conductor of electricity. >> about 5,000 homes were affected by the outage and pg&e says power should be restored to all customers by 8:30 this morning. >> man, woman and child are safe after the raft sank in the bay. it happened near at&t park at

3:00 p.m. yesterday. a coast guard felt the inflightable ralph and pulled the three people to safety and brought them on to dry land. no one was seriously hurt. >> caltran will reveal if the new eastern span on the bay bridge opens on time as crews fix defects in the system. current plans call for the bridge to open labor day weekend but major questions persist with 2,300 rods that may not be safe. one engineer says it is safer than the new. >> there is a plan to re-do a shopping center tomorrow proposing an overhaul of the north end of the a shopping center that replaces sears and cost-plus with 171,000 square

>> yes run out of the job. >> now, time for a check on the forecast. >> mike nicco is right here with the forecast. >> here we go, looking at live doppler 7 hd, listening to the wonderful story. good morning, everyone, rain to the north so we will talk seriously about that for a second. what we are dealing with today, scattered light showers and a storm system passing to the north. it is a holiday for a lot of folks but it will be choppy and breezy at 1:00 o'clock this afternoon through 9:00 this evening, and west wins at 15 to 25 notes through the delta and gusting to 30 at times. here is a beautiful look at the sky, it is gorgeous, look at that, nice blues out there, we will talk about what will happen. here is the forecast highlights,

scattered light showers are possible, to the north, closer to the coast, the boater you are to get wet. cool highs on wednesday, and then we will make up for the coolness with temperatures in the weekend pushing the mid-90's in some of the inland valleys although it will be 60's at the coast. a driving system to the east of this than the south with the best chance of showers to the north. at 7:00 in the morning you can see the clouds spreading across the bay. by 9:00 we will have a few light showers developing in the north bay and the best chance is through noon, in the north bay, and you can see some of those filtering across the bay and scattered light showers through about action. the best chance as we head in the evening and overnight, santa cruz mountains, south bay, to diabolo range. during that time, those will fade out. we will be mostly dry tomorrow morning. with drizzle. and cooler air moving into our

neighborhoods by balloon and breaks in the clouds and sunshine coming in tuesday afternoon. now, what will happen today as far as the temperatures, it will be cooler-than-average, mid-to-upper 60's in the south bay and low-to-mid 60's on the peninsula, and brisk raw in the coast to downtown and south san francisco at 62. 63 at sausalito, and the beaches we will have mid-to-upper 50's and low-to-mid 60's along the east bay shore and mid to upper 60's for you and as we look at tonight's temperatures most of us in the 50's and warmer than this morning, low-to-mid 40's and drizzle is possible along the coast. the seven-day forecast shows a couple of minutes degrees warmer tomorrow, and we will hold steady through wednesday with temperatures above average thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday. leyla gulen? >> thanks, as we take a check of the drive across the bay area it is looking quiet because it is memorial day, and a lot of people are staying home today,

>> blue are just joining us or headed outdoor, police are investigating two separate shootings that left three people dead in a matter of hours. the latest was killed on hayes avenue after 10:00 p.m., two possibly teens were shot behind the kohl's department store. we will have more on the investigations in a live report at 5:30. >> two, the oakland police department is honoring officers killed in the line of duty with a procession to the grave sites including four officers gunned down in march of 2009. 51 oakland officers have fallen in the line of duty since 1867. >> three, memorial day is marked by a holiday tradition at

we have blue, purple, pink, a lost color. this afternoon, it will be a lot of light and gray mixed with the blue sky so the clouds will get thicker and thicker with scattered showers possible the low to 60's an the bay and mid-to-upper 50's at the coast. how is the traffic, leyla gulen? >> a crash at franklin in san francisco but that is all we have with quiet conditions across the bay area. i have the drive time, though, and it is unchanged on 580 westbound away from tracy to dublin at 23 minutes to get you there and 880 southbound from hayward to the south bay freeway is 17 minutes and 101, if you are headed to sfo, it is 12 minutes. the toll plaza, under a beautiful pink sky with clouds and we have traffic empty into san francisco.

eric? >> shy of 5:31. investigators are looking into the deadly shootings of three people, two victims could be teens. abc7 news reporter is in san jose where an investigation is wrapping up. matt? >> yes, the officer left the scene the past hour. we talked with a witness of the shooting. he told us he heard an argument out here on the sidewalk. then he heard three shots. officers were called here at 10:00 p.m. finding a man with multiple gunshot wounds. he died at the scene. a young man living in the apartment complex ran to help. he said the dying victim was 21 years old. >> i asked, do you believe in god and he said, yes, i said breathe, breathe, breathe, he was gurgling and he was going in and out of consciousness. he woke up and said i have a

daughter, started convulsing and died. five hours earlier another shooting killed two on rhinehart drive and both victims could be 4 or 15 and students at a high school but they have not confirmed identities. police are not saying if there are any arrests. the homicides are the 17th, 18th, and 19th of the year in san jose. >> matt, thank you. developing news in san leandro where thrice are investigating a shooting at a costco off of 880. it happened in the parking lot mere the gas station shortly after 3:00 yesterday afternoon as the store was filled with customers. police got there and the suspected and the victim were gone. anyone who saw what happened should give them a call. >> this morning, police are trying to determine would left a pressure cooker in bushes near a shopping center. someone spotted the pressure

cooker next to apartments near the san antonio shopping center at 6:00 last night. the bomb squad used infrared equipment and determined it was giving off heat. there was concern because pressure cookers were used in the boston marathon bombings. >> it is good they are checking it out. it is cold. it is not fun being outside of our home but we will wait as long as it takes. >> residents were back in their homes at 9:00 p.m. after the experts gave the "all clear." >> we know the name of an international star killed in a crash involving a party bus on highway 101 in burlingame, the 36-year-old sarah clean died when a car driven by her husband was hit head on. the car lost control and spun around to face oncoming traffic and that is when the bus hit it.

presidio and 87-year-old dan franklin will receive the french legion of honor medal the highest military honor. in 1944 when he was 17, he was part of a landing craft crew on d-day delivering supplies to soldiers on omaha beach, a bloody daughter -- day with mines everywhere. the second landing craft was blown to pieces. we unloaded the stretchers and blankets and we backed up and hit a mine. of the ten of us, only two surviveed. >> abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield will have more on the ceremony of the bigger events if san francisco in the next half hour. >> the remembering of the presidio starts at 10:30 one of many ceremonies in the bay area. marin county holds the event at the elk's lodge at 10:00, and at

>> covering santa rosa, berkeley, san jose and all bay area, this is abc7 news. >> investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that left four people homeless. it break identity yesterday morning in a home in the amazon neighborhood. two adults and two children got out as the flames spread through the home. the neighbor called 9-1-1.

it began in the back of a garage that could have been converted to living quarters. they have temporary shelter influence the red cross. >> antioch neighborhoods want answers about the safety of a can will that behind their home after two drownings. a 13-year-old fell into the canal on saturday and drowned. the boys climbed through a hole in the fence. the canal winds through the middle of the certify and is fenced off but people say it is too easy to get in. >> there are holes in the fence that have not been repaired. it would seem to be since they come there to clean out the debris or the brush that is back there they would see the holes, too. >> we have patrols that run the length of the canal to identify any issue like that. >> last monday a man drowned after bumping into the canal. police believe he was under the

influence of drugs or alcohol. >> california lawmakers are about to wrap up their current session with several major bills still awaiting action. one gun control measure bans semi automatic weapons that can rapidly reload. another would ban those convicts of crimes of possessing guns. a measure in the assembly raises the minimum wage to $9.25 by 2016 and a senate bill will ban plastic bags statewide. >> nasa scientists are over the moon this morning after lunar dust samples were found in a laboratory after 40 years. neil armstrong collected the samples. they were sent to 150 different laboratories in the country and thought to have been superintendent back to nasa.

summer warmth is back at us this week, here is what is happening, a front riding on the jet stream and headed to the east so we usually get the tail we end of this and the further north you are, the more likely you are to get wet. through 9:00, a few sprinkles in the north bay with some drizzle along the coast, and by noon, we have our first mush of scattered showers out of the forth bay and into the heart of the bay and as we head to the afternoon hours, any of us could get a scattered shower and best chance of getting wet is along the coast and the higher willation is until 5:00 with energy moving through the heart of the bay and drizzle is possible through tomorrow morning, especially at the coast, but as we head into the mid-morning to noon the clouds are dissipating and the dry air is moving in. you will get less than .1", mostly just a nuisance. tomorrow, a few showers are
