>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> caltran officials are reassuring the public another part the new bay bridge is safe. they say broken bolts on the bicycle path are no longer a concern. that story is. coming up in a moment. good morning, i am eric thomas. >> we will have crime in san jose, officials and law enforcement and neighbors will meet to explore solutions to the increase in violent crime in san jose. >> this meeting follows the murders of three young men in two different shootings. abc7 news reporter is on the

scene of this meeting. >> the meeting will take place at the library in south san jose tonight. this comes after three homicides over the weekend including a double shooting that killed two high school students. a memorial has been set up for where the two high school students were shot and killed on sunday evening in the parking lot on rhinehart drive. police released the names of the victim, if en-year-old, and 16-year-old, both independent high school students. police say they were going through surveillance video from nearby businesses but so far, no suspect has been identified. city council man says that the spike in crime is alarming and is holding the crime prevention meeting to keep san jose residents from becoming the next victim. >> homicide is the tip of the iceburg. you get the attention but we have crime at every level higher than in years, burglaryies, auto break ins, no neighborhood is safe from the increase in crime

>> the association president told abc7 news that the increase in crime in the city is coming as a number officers have dwindled blaming pay cuts and the passage of pension record if the officers leaving the city for other departments. the city and police officers union are in contract negotiations with a binding arbitration ruling expected next month. again, this meeting at the library starts at 6:30 tonight and all san jose residents are invited to attend. >> thank you, matt. >> caltran officials now say they have fixed the problem with the new bicycle lane, the new eastern pan of the bay bridge, the latest problem involving failing bolts. >> abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is at the bridge with the latest. amy? >> caltran says they found the problem, they fixed it and are moving on. let me show you what the issue.

see this gap in the bridge? they do that on purpose. when weather makes it expand or contract, it has wiggle room. see the bolts? they did have caps on them, they were decoration. a welder welded them on there and that cannot happen because they don't have room to move weapon the bridge expands making this protective railing loose which, of course, is a safe hazard. they are on it and they have already fixed them and it wasn't a bolt problem, it was because it was human error and the officials say that is to be expected. >> we do not know who was doing the work but on a regulate of this scope and scale, something this massive, you are going to run into challenges from time to time. the whole point of quality assurance and quality control process is to check the things in the field. it is not light traffic on the bridge but we are watching these

in the issue, during construction, in the field, fixing them, and making sure the bridge is 100 percent safe's it opens to the public. they have removed the cap. they have replaced the bolts. the problem is fixed. it is not related to the bigger bolt problem you have probably heard about on the bridge. they are still working on that repair. that is going to require some time and some testing. so israel told us they will not be able to announce today whether they will open on labor day. that is still to be determineed. >> thank you, amy. 4.6 earthquake has rattled part of the southern california coast. the earthquake hit at 7:38 centered three miles west of santa barbara county with no reports of damage or injuries,

but home to uc santa barbara. residents if lafayette are watching their backyards after two mountain lion sightings in a couple of days include, last night. cornell, fish and wildlife just showed up? >> they did. they are investigating the latest citing here in the lafayette hills of what is being called a very large mountain lion. the cat made an appearance in a backyard last night and a nephew snapped a photo of it and fish and wildlife call it a full grown add dealt maybe the same one spotted in the same area over the week. she will never forget the encounter with the very big cat. >> not going in the backyard anymore at nighttime, that is for sure. we just ran back in the house and shut the windows and the back. >> how large, and you work with

>> break news from southern california. anaheim detectives have arrested ambassador outdoor vendor in connection with the small explosion which happened inside disney land yesterday. police say the suspect put dry ice in a plastic battle and dropped it in a green crash can. it sounded like a gunshot when the bottle exploded. no one was hurt. the device looks similar to others that have exploded in anaheim neighborhoods recently. disney is the parent company of abc7. >> michelle bachmann will not run for re-election in 2014. >> my good friends, after a great deal of thought and deliberation i have decided next year i will not seek a fifth

and coming from the northwest at 20 to 30 knots tomorrow. right now our fastest winds are 15 at sfo and napa administration -- napa at 14 miles per hour. temperatures will respond to the sunshine and brentwood is at 70. the east bay valleys we have mid-to-upper 60's through the san ramon valley from walnut creek at 68 and danville at 64 and dublin is the same and livermore, too. for the rest of us, 70's with the cool spot at bow take -- bodega bay at 63. mount temperature temperature shows it is looking nice, with deep blue sky and clean air mass that will bring us cloudy and slightly breezy day. that will hold our temperatures in check with the winds coming off the ocean. that changes with the mini heat wave this weekend and the temperatures will not stay hot long, they will temper next week but they will be above average,

just not oppressive like a few areas. low-to-mid 70's in the south bay and san jose and cupertino at 73. up the peninsula, 73 at los altos, and 65 at millbrae and the fast spot is 61, and low-to-mid 60's downtown and south san francisco and sausalito, and low-to-mid 70's through the north bay valley and santa rosa will be warmer at 77 degrees and bodega bay is 20 degrees cooler at 59. berkeley is 66 and everyone else is in the upper 60's to low 70's. as you head into the valley, the warmest weather, mid to upper 70's. at at&t park, game throw of the four game set with the bay area rivals, tonight, we are going to 7:15 so it starts ten members later. 60 degrees and dropping to 55 and it will be naturally breezy at at&t park. like always. we are dropping in the upper 40's to low 50's and no lack of
