and breaking news in oakland. dozens of police on the scene. an officer shot a suspect, police have made three arrests and recovered at least two weapons. good afternoon, everybody. i'm larry beil. >> i'm carolyn johnson. several streets are closed in that area. abc 7 news is there live with the latest. nick? we're just minutes from a press conference, oakland police will let us know exactly how things i played

thought afternoon. we can tell you is that just before 2:00, they were in purse yuft a suspect. we know shots were fired here at the intersection. i'm in the 2400 block of ritchie. police public information officer tells us one person was killed in that gunfire, we understand two weapons may have been recovered. again, we're still working to confirm this information now. i'm going to let you see what we're seeing now. we have a homicide and other investigative teams here on the scene. we have more than two dozen officers here. again, we know police plan to fill us in on how events played out. witnesses told us when we got to the scene they heard six shots fired and they believe the suspect may have been shot in the back. again, we're looking to learn

tonight 7:00 p.m. still patchy low clouds around. into morning. temperatures start to rise for thursday. but numbers will soar inland fry. the wind starts to switch directions. the wind blowing from the warmer land towards the coast and that will allow temperatures into 90s inland. so those of you who do not want the heat don't worry there. is a place for you here in the bay area. livermore is going to see numbers rising into mid-90s saturday. low 90s sunday. then, starting to cool off around tuesday, wednesday of next week. temperatures upper 40s to mid-50s. you might need an extra layer as you head outside of the door.

with stabbing his little sister to death appeared in a courtroom today to enter a plea. >> the victim, 8-year-old laila fowler was found dead in her home april 27th. laura anthony joins us live from the court hou.s laura? >> the hearing lasted about three minutes but for today, the attorneys indicated they might ask for his release to his family that. did not happen. but we did hear a plea. >> we believe our client sin sent that. is what we believe. >> in a brief hearing, the attorneys for 12-year-old boy accused of murdering his sister denied two felony charges. the juvenile equivalent of a not guilty plea. the parents were in court sitting behind their son. >> the family is still doing remarkably well under very difficult circumstances. and they appreciate the support they've gotten. they hope to continue to

a tv news crew reporting a story of a missing man got a surprise. >> the 73-year-old went missing monday night. they followed search crews, combed through woods, they were looking for mcdonea. he has dementia. >> hours went by, and then, take a look at who walked into the shot. it's bob mcdonis, safe and sound. the crew called authorities. >> been looking for you for a whi. are you hurt or anything? >> he was kind of what is the concern about? didn't recognize the fact that we have been searching for him. so real fortunate for us he was able to come out. >> he was fine aside from blood on the hand and shirt.

checking healthy living news there is growing concern about the spraefd a deadly new respiratoriy virus. most cases have had a direct or indirect connection to the middle east. the latest deaths in france and saudi arabia. the virus is a corona virus. this is not being defined as sars but middle east symptom corona virus. the symptoms include fever and cough which could lead to pneumonia. >> gusty ocean winds kept boats at the docks this week but there was a lull this morning that allowed them to heat out to sea. they came back with 30,000 pounds of fresh-caught wild salmon.
