francisco with what drivers faced. >> we start with abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield in oakland with the repairs. amy? >> the repairs are somewhat finished at least they can use both tracks. there is no backup at west oakland. it is running smooth. running normal. this is not a good illustration of what it looked like this morning. look at what commuters had to go through. the crowd surprised even seasoned bart riders. >> crazy. hasn't been this crowded in a long-term. just trying to get to work. >> getting to work was an obstacle course because of a problem with transbay with a problem at transfer station with no room left on the platform at 8:30 this morning. >> been here for an hour and ten

minutes. >> officials were well aware they needed to act quickly. look how many workers they sent. overnight, two maintenance vehicles crashed into each other on the tracks damaging the third rail. they had to single track through the transbay 2 until 9:00. bart advised skipping bart if possible. but some did not get the word in time. >> i didn't think of a plan "b". i heard 30 minutes before i had to be at work so it was now or never. >> but another knew of the problem and planned for it and got to richmond bart station early at 7:00, to be in san francisco at 9:00, and when we met her at 8:45 she only made it to oakland. >> trying to get to san francisco to work, and i don't know if i will get there today. honestly. it is a nightmare. >> she felt frustrated but, still thought it was better than driving. >> driving in the city is

impossible plus the cost of parking, no way. no way. no way. >> i just checked with her and she made it. she got to her office at 9:45. she started at 7:00. brutal morning. i will bring in a spokesman for bart. can you tell us the latest on the repairs. >> what we will do is hold off on the final repairs until after service ends tomorrow morning and that mean we will use both tracks for transbay for the day. however, they will be going slower through that section. we don't think that will create a big on way home. >> you think it is safe and the repair us done or thorough enough to get through? >> absolutely safe to run at a slower speed. we would newt open up for passengers if it were not safe but it is not the maximum efficiency we would like but we want to make sure our passengers are able to get home. >> thank you. better than this morning.

it looks like the afternoon will be good. happy week, everyone, after a rough friday morning. >> that is better news, thank you. at the other end of the transbay tube in san francisco thousands took bart despite warnings. some bart riders at the embarcardero station shared stories of how the meltdown altered their commute routine. >> i decided to get ready as soon as possible and not dry my hair to get on bart. >> i was trying to get home after getting off work, and been up, since, like, 10:00 so it is affecting my sleep schedule. >> it is what it is. i cannot change it. so...better than driving. for me. >> you can see how trains switch from the eastbound track to the westbound traffic before they entered the embarcardero station so they could reach the open side of the transbay tube.

>> bart advised those who could work from home to telecommute and everyone else had to find a way to get across the pay. matt? >> buses were were dropping people off all morning long here and people were trying to get into san francisco anyway except open bart. driving it to the city with strangers was more attractive as bart delayed pushed people to find alternatives to get to work. casual car poolers met in oakland and dropped off here in san francisco at fremont. >> i heard board was not going very fast, through the tunnel so i decided to casual car pool because i have an 8:30 meeting. >> timing was good? >> great, great. >> and the extra traffic on the bay bridge incentivized single drivers to fill the car. >> the bridge was fantastic.

faster than me sitting in traffic. or i would still be there. >> no traffic on the water this morning but many had the same idea to use the ferry to get to work to avoid the bart delay. two more boats were put in service to help with the extra passengers. >> it was way more crowded than usual especially i am not used to seeing that many from oakland. >> this is the second time they is bail me out when bart is messed up and they have always stepped up. >> they added extra buses in oakland to help bart commuters get to san francisco and many had the same thought, with the goal being like any other morning, get to work. >> found the bus, found people waiting for me, smooth sailing into the city. good thing to have backup plan. >> i spoke with transit workers and they said there are no plan for extra buses for the evening commute. however, there is one extra ferry boat tonight for the alameda and oakland line.

with our abc7 news waze traffic app which is free on apple app and google play. >> we are paying close attention to high fire danger in outlying parts of the bay area. >> for most of us, temperatures will soar. we will get the latest from meteorologist mike nicco. >> live doppler 7 hd showing no radar runs with the air getting more dry bit moment. the radar and satellite show no clouds, either, so we have plenty of sunshine that will heat us to levels we have not seen in a while in the 90's in many areas but it is right outside the bay area, to the delta communities just to the east of contra costa county, that is where the redding in warning is and the highest fire danger will be from now through 7:00 tomorrow evening. so if anything develops because of the winds it could get out of hand. i will show you the heat wave that is coming for the weekend forecast in a few minutes. kristen and eric?

>> in southern california, cool morning weather helped crews make progress on a wildfire burning in the mountains north of los angeles and this is live pictures where it seems to have theired, with scattered flames climbing the hillsides in the national forest. the fire is at 1,400 acres with 15 percent containment, and this morning, a flare one prompt add brief evacuation of homes along a canyon road and crews want do make more progress before hot and dry weather sets in. >> investigators are looking for a cause of an early morning fire that gutted a popular san francisco restaurant, chez spencer at 14th. investigators state building was burning for a while before they got the call at 1:30. the restaurant was empty but the fire did spread to the two buildings on either side. fire estimates estimate the damage to all three buildings at $1.5 million. >> developing news in oakland, a few weeks after a massive raid at the acorn housing project,

officers were back again this morning in an ongoing effort to reduce violence. katie marzullo is in emeryville. this was a big scene. what happened? >> eric, it was a massive show of law enforcement and you can see for yourself, sky seven was over the scene and the f.b.i. on the scene saying this was a joint multiagency operation, agencies including the f.b.i., the oakland police department, and u.s. marshals and secret service and alameda county sheriff, and that is not a complete list. they were checking on people who are on parole or probation seeing to they are complying with the terms of their prohibition or parole and convassing the neighborhood as eric said in an effort to reduce violent crime in an area that see as lot of violent crime. what was the outcome of the event? here is a spokeswoman. >> we don't have any arrests so we did reach out to the neighborhood and hopefully it

>> we have breaking news from houston, texas, where firefighters battling a huge fire at a hotel in the southwestern part of thety and you are looking at pictures of the smoke it is generating, a very smoky fire. our sister station in houston reports that people could see the smoke for miles. it is making it difficult for drivers to see on a freeway. there is no word on whether anyone has been hurt and officials have not said what sparked the fire. if you look closely you can see the flames. >> happening now, people in the midwest are bracing for more extreme weather after reports of 15 tornadoes in oakland oakland, arkansas, and bringing more flooding and tornadoes and the national weather service says

the greatest risk is oklahoma city where people are still recovering after a deadly storm last week. >> two people have been rushed to the hospital after a small plane slammed into the living room of an apartment building in washington, dc, a crane pulled the cessna off the roof of the three-story apartment building in herndon, virginia, after the plane ran out of fuel. two were hurt including one in the plane and one in the apartment. they both went to the hospital but the injuries are minor. >> relief after missing cupertino man considered "at risk" was found. the 53-year-old man was found safe sitting by the tracks behind kennedy middle school. he was reported missing yesterday. his family was really worried because he has multiple disabilities, including dementia, als and trouble communicating but he has been found safe. >> meteorologist mike nicco has the forecast. >> scorcher for some of us and an area to get relief could be

>> breaking news from phoenix, arizona, two small planes have collided midair and crashed in the desert. three were killed. two were injured this happened an hour ago. one caught fire after the crash. investigators are looking for the cause of the one of the planes is registered in massachusetts. >> new this morning, an american mother of seven arrested in mexico on drug smuggling charges is out of jail. she is back home in arizona. the 42-year-old walked out of a mexican jail overnight after a week behind bars. soldiers found 12 pounds of marijuana under moldonado's seat on a bus she took back to arizona after attending a funeral. the surveillance video showed she only carried a purse and two

sunday with a southern search from the south that moves with a left-hand turn and it would be going through the golden gate bridge and cooling the rest us. today, look at that, they got a soccer tournament going on down in santa cruz on the beach, four to ten degrees warmer today and this is just the beginning of the warming trend. the high in santa cruz is about 80 with water temperature about 55 and as you go into the santa clara valley we are looking at mid-to-upper 80's, and those are the temperatures we will find on the peninsula, mid-to-upper 70's and mid-70's along the coast and low-to-mid 70's around downtown and sausalito and north bay, headed up to the wine country mid-to-upper 80's and that will have an effect on what you drink. as far as the beaches, breezy and mid-60's and mid to upper 60's for the east bay shore and

low-to-mid 90's in the east bay valley. usually the thing or third day the house getting unbearable and you may have to turn the air condition on. a game at 7:05 it will be 70 dropping to 60 by the end of the game. if you head up toward the sierra, i will show you this forecast quickly, it looks gorgeous. temperatures are running in the mid-to-upper 70's. here is the seven-day forecast, we will be warmest tomorrow, notice the temperatures are dropping around our coast on sunday, and that moves inland at 5 to 10 degree drop and we will drop more on tuesday but, still, away from the coast with the drop, we will be warmer-than-average next week. >> your work isn't done, right? we will talk animal adoption coming up. >> the friend of the alameda animal shelter and cindy has a couple of her friends.
