commuters trying to head home this friday afternoon. hi, heather. >> it means a continuation of the nightmare. we've been asking what led to the commute nightmare this morning. it turns out it was just a rear ender. workers swarmed the rails just outside of the east entrance to the trance bay tube, they had to repair insulation damage atd 2:30 this morning when bart says two heavy maintenance vehicles collided. the equivalent of a freight train rail career ended a truck. the two scraped across the track. >> there is a vehicle used for welding on the tracks that is like a flat rail car. it was approaching from west oakland. it deegs yebded and rear ended a high railer which is a pickup truck modified to run

on the rails. >> the tube is the only route for bart cars to get back and forth across the bay. instead two of tracks, trains ran on a single track until repairs were done at 9:00 a.m. when service was restored. commuters were delayed for hours trying to get to work. >> been here an hour, 10 minutes now. trying to get into san francisco. >> bart will continue repairs overnight when it's normally closed. >> hopefully getting it up to full speed into overnight hours, open fully everybody will be able to get to where they want to go this weekend. >> so whether it was error or mechanical failure these are among questions bart is still sorting out. >> thank you. >> this mess forced commuters to scramble to find a way to cross the bay.

afternoon, what we're dealing with are different things. we have folks that drive into san francisco leaving town, also get away friday travelers then, those take bart trying to leave the city who came in on their cars so right now we're taking a look outside right now this, is the skyway. take a look at the traffic. if you're head tgt bay bridge you're looking at a 26-minute commute. taking a look at the bay bridge from the roof you can see here that traffic out there is moving well. but we're looking at a 21 minute drive heading out of san francisco into oakland. moving to oakland and peeking at maze it's packed out there. traffic heading along away from 580. and that is about a 15 minute drive heading into albany. westbound traffic is a 21 minute drive heading into the

we begin with severe weather in the mid west. you're looking at a live picture right now from el reno, oklahoma. >> the tornado we're told touched down at six miles outside of el reno, oklahoma. this area has been under what seem like a constant boreage well. saw what happened a couple weeks ago in the town of moore, oklahoma there have been reports of hail in the el reno area.

i just looked online, one woman say sheg was heading to underground cover to just be safe because you know, at this point it is happening all the rhyme them just want to get someplace where they're not in danger. >> take a look at this damage. one tornado touched down last night, you can see on the ground no reports of fatalities here but winds and more tornadoes forecast for areas that have been battered. >> and flooding in kansas city made for dangerous driving. you can see people making their way through high water on city streets. some stranded drivers pushing the stalled vehicles to safety. dozens of homes and businesses in this area had to be evacuated because of the flash floods. >> and people honoring the memory of a sheriff swept away by flood waters.

he was in a boat trying to rescue residents when he disappeared. scott county has just been inundated by flood waters. >> latest situation in the mid west. sandhya? >> looking at our live doppler 7 radar you can see radar indicating severe thunderstorms across oklahoma. thunderstorms rolling across kansas heading into missouri. take a look at the violent let purpose yelz here that is indicating severe thunderstorms. radar indicating the reds here. two possible tornadoes here. as you look here just near el reno here, near 40 and these yellows indicating rotations so there could be another possible development of tornadoes and are expecting damaging winds to continue. right on throughout the evening hours they're in the
