been hit hard this week by twisters. five people killed and another 50 injured. will are in oklahoma with the latest. >> reporter: good morning from el r net. a, north dakota. this city took a direct hit. take a look at the damage. look at the stop sign. it looks like perhaps someone pulled out a shotgun and started firing at it. you can see debris still being there. survey crews will be out over oklahoma today to get a sense how devastating this was. >> the massive storm cells spawned torn nice that turned the tables on storm chasers. >> 40 is not enough. >> it wasn't enough. twister caught up with the storm crew, turning the highway into a horror show of flying debris. >> get down! if we don't stop we're going to die. >> a torn-up barney flew right

into therapy windshield. traffic wags brought to a standstill on major highways in and around oklahoma city. >> the storm hit during rush hour when people were going home after work. >> thousands were stuck on the road, nowhere to go, as twisters tore across the landscape. it feels the worst place to be for mother and her baby. they were found killed in their car on i-40. >> they were traveling on the interstate and their car was sucked up into the tornado and they were sucked out of their vehicle. >> in el reno, oklahoma a tornado leveled a technology center during school hours. >> we have a basement area in the school and we were able to get them down there and thankfully everybody is fine. >> tornado destroyed many homes. there was hail and inches of rain, flooding streets up to four feet. further east a massive storm system ravaged st. louis. just look at the lightning

flashing over the famed st. louis arch. thankfully the storm touched down in a rural part of the state. for a while there was big worry it would hit and create the kind of devastation that that ef-5 create when had it rolled through moore, oklahoma less than two weeks ago. but thankfully that did not happen. rural areas took the greatest impact of the storm. abc news. now back to you. >> thank you. in developing news a four-year-old girl reported missing in richmond has been found safe. the girl disappeared about six last night on the home on wall avenue where she was visiting family. she was found just before mid-night sleeping beneath a bed inside the home. her mother has gratitude for all those who came out to help search for her daughter. >> i'm sorry, everybody. thank you. it means a lot to me. i'm sorry that she was in here.

they had the dogs come in and everything. i'm sorry but i'm so happy she's okay and nothing bad happened to her. >> police say the girl is in good condition. they also say she was surrounded by lots of objects, and that's why she had gone undetected. now this morning police in san jose are investigating a stabbing that left a man dead late last night. it happened in west san jose just before 10:00. officers found the man lying in a carport suffering from multiple stab wounds. he was taken to valley medical center where he died. no attackers are in custody. a man was shot multiple times in san jose yesterday. the latest active violence in a very violent week. the shooting happened about 5:00 p.m. this was near lion elementary school that was placed on lock down for a short time. man was put in the hospital in

serious condition. this week san jose saw 78 shootings. they believe yesterday's shooting was gang real lated. officers will have saturation patrols around the city to try to get a hand on the violence. about 40 more than usual will make their presence known. and s.w.a.t. teams and gang suppression units also will be out targeting certain areas. a fran than is recovering this morning from a terrifying home invasion robbery. it happened in laurel heights neighborhood where crime like this is rare. this is a story you will only see on abc7 news. >> i was laying there watching tv. then i heard a bang, bang, bang and the door came flying open. >> elves stunned when three armed men broke down his back door. they offered his head and hogtied him with duct tape and

extension cords. the bruises on his face are from the beat egg got. >> i started screaming and he started hitting me with a club and told me to shut up or he would kill me. >> they ransacked his apartment in laurel park for two hours. they took his cash and guild coins in the safe, took his wallet and pickup truck. >> they took everything i had, and my guitar. >> they then tossed him into the bathtub and took off. >> i could see his face through the window and he was screaming for help. >> a neighbor found david still tied up. >> the first thing i did was uncut the duct tape and called the police. >> if the suspects did use a credit card and went to an an am machine, we will have video on him. >> kind of a nice neighborhood and i have a family here.

i wasn't expecting this. >> neighbors are keeping precautions, keeping doors and windows locked and so is david, what sales he just feels lucky to be alive. in san francisco, abc7 news. bay area fire crews are on high alert this first weekend of june and is prepared for what is a very early start to fire season. we have more. >> reporter: if he cal fire station at morgan hill this additional fire truck has just been driven on to the lot for preparations made throughout the bay area. >> we are talking about an additional 40, 50 personnel who could be on duty not just throughout the south and east became but the peninsula and north bay. >> the dry winter has left plenty of religiontation. thereof already been a few wildfires in the last few weeks. several departments are taking precautions n the oakland hills teams will be out and about on fire patrols.

>> the wind, and it is kind of breezy right now. as we get into the surrounding hills and so forth, it's fairly windy up there. >> caltran brings in additional trucks for the fire season which usually starts the middle of july. this year seems to be starting early. >> instead of having our traditional staffing where we basically would be covering about half of our stations, we're covering all of our stationers engines basically at the peak levels we normally would see in july. >> the extra staff will likely stay on throughout the rest of the season. abc news. today and tomorrow people will learn how to better protect their homes from wildfires. it's about the defense i believe space stand down effort happening all weekend. firefighters will cover the county and talk to residents about how to make their homes more resistance to embers. the effort kicks off at 8:30

this morning. in southern california firefighters are work to gain ground on the powerhouse wildfire before temperatures shoot up today. the fire burning north of santa clarita has burned 800 acres. they got help from favorable wind conditions yesterday. earlier gusts drove the flames toward a rural community, forcing 200 people from their homes but last night winds pushed the fire back into more than two square miles that had already burned. fire is 15% contained. officials expect to have it fully contained by wednesday. hopefully we won't experience anything like that in the bay area but it will be really hot. >> it is. we are free of clouds and, in fact, of the northerly winds. the upper elevations will certainly reduce the relative humidity. we are looking live right now from the sutro camera. nice and clear. comfortable temperatures at the beach but near 100 inland.

news waze traffic app can help i navigate traffic and it's freel at the app store or on google play. there will be emergency repairs to a local church tower. traffic in the area will being affected as well as the sidewalk in fronts of immaculate heart of mary church. belltower rises more than 60 feet above the church. city officials says it has dry rot and termite damage that needs to be removed. whales in san francisco are getting more protection from commercial ships. starting today ship captains will have to follow narrower rights in and out of the bay. coast guard, the shipping industry and marine scientists collaborated to create the new lanes. whales could benefit from the redirection of the lanes because it will be less likely to be hit by ships. merchant ships used to cross

right through sensitive feeding grounds. now they have to travel in the lanes that are only about three miles wide. there are new changes at all-star bucks locations owned and operated by the company beginning this morning. the coffee giants is banning smoking within 25 feet of its shops, all 7,000 of them. indoor smoking at starbucks is already a no-no. the policy applies to the property and property around its stores. it goes end a step beyond the california law. outdoor smoking is banned only outside government buildings, but some city ordinances are more restrictive. tomorrow is the last day to visit the san francisco museum of modern art before it close it's doors for two and a half years. it's part of a major expansion project. heather ishimaru has more on what it means for the art that's there now and and what to expect

when the renovation is done. >> reporter: the clock is ticking down. rita and mark and others will have to move soon. their home, the san francisco museum of modern art, will close on june 3 for a two and a half year expansion project. a model of the building sits in the atrium. these renderings allow you to see what to expect when it opens in 2016. more open space free to the public. >> we will have incredible new entrances to the museum. to do that we will have a new window, a beautiful open space on howard street for the public to come to. that will be right in keeping with the new transbay terminal. >> behind the museum, demolition of the building has again. this will make room for a multi-story addition. in all the project will add 225,000 square feet of new space. between now and completion much of the art will be in a top secret storage location, but some of it will be on the go at

this is where we have the red flag warning, elevated fire danger for really the entire bay area and especially the hills of the north and east pay where there is northerly winds will really i packet our highs today. 54 union city and 53 los gatos. you can see how pretty it is out there. and the sun will be up in about 30 minutes, less than that. we are looking at hotter temperatures today. elevated fire danger and cooling as soon as tomorrow as southerly winds bring up the fog and spread the cooler ocean air across the bay. there is a red flags warning until 7:00 tonight with gifts 30 miles an hour by the delta. humidity as low as 10%. we are talking about the possibility of fires spreading rapidly. we aren't looking at a red flag warning locally, but look how much warmer we are this morning than yesterday. we are already on our way to a rapid warmup, anybody from two to eight grease warmer with five degrees of warming in mountain view. 68 half moon bay with mid-70s

downtown. look at oakland this afternoon, about 3:00, 85 degrees. antioch could see highs i to 100 degrees. records in the north bay would have to be well over the century mark. we won't hit that but with high pressure building in, it's the warmest day of the weekend. >> the offshore winds away from the coast but the sea breeze, a weak one, at the coast. 89 san jose. a nice day in santa cruz at ninety four. and pacifica and half moon bay up he were 60s. very comfortable with numbers from the upper 60s in daily a city. 76 downtown. east bay, we talked about you in the low to mid-80s. up he were 80s toward castro valley. head inland look at all the nineties. we are talking about mid-nineties for the livermore valley and brentwood about

new this morning a man who survived a jump from the golden gate bridge will lead a walk to prevent suicide today. kevin hinds became a suicide prevention advocate after surviving his jump from the bridge years ago. the walk helps raise funds to provide free mental health area throughout the bay area. it begins today on john f. kennedy drive in golden gate park. >> a few hours from now unique works of art will be up form grabs as san francisco kicks off its union street festival. the festival in its 37th year is a large free event. it features artists from all over the world. jewelry, paintings and photography are just some of the items up for sale. the festival runs from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. love the union street festival. coming up next, you are invited to a party this weekend

>> welcome back. meteorologist lisa argen has a very warm forecast. it feels like a not typical forecast for san francisco this time of year. >> that's right. today we have an absence of the marine layer and we are talking about a big warmup with temperatures well above normal today. but it stops there. in fact which are going to cool down significantly tomorrow. the one-day warmup is upon us. live doppler 7-hd. it is nice and dry. no low clouds to speak of.

here's a look from our exploratorium camera. look how nice that is. ten minutes away from the official sunrise. 54 san francisco, 57 san jose with 45 half moon bay, 50 santa cruz, going for a high in the mid-80s today. a look at san jose. a beautiful shot, nice and clear with mid-50s well up to the north in santa rosa as well as napa. livermore at 57. huge i don't know city checking in at 54 and we are looking at 53 in los gatos. nice and cool out there right now. boy, which are looking at numbers, you know, that have been above normal yesterday. and the trend will be for, once again, hotter than average with elevated fire danger and the light northerly winds north and east bay hills. but the sea breeze will keep us comfortable at our coast and widespread fog will bring down the temperatures tomorrow. red flag warning still in effect until 7:00 tonight for the delta where we could see wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour. that brings the relative

humidity down to legs than 10%. very dangerous conditions here. pretty much all over the bay. bull the southerly surge is going to save us tomorrow. here's a look at the numbers. look for 70s from half moon bay to ocean beech, even point rays. really point of mild with numbers around the upper 780s and nineties. we will have that spread today. we are six degrees warmer than yesterday from concord, the delta, livermore. and about five degrees warmer hayward and mountain view. here's the setup with high pressure as it builds into the pick northwest. we have that offshore flow. it's a light offshore flow in the upper elevations so that's the good news. the weak sea breeze confined in the coast. here's what happens tomorrow as an area of low pressure develops off the coast. we will see a return to the low clouds, the fog. in fact waking up to the gray skies and that sea breeze
