good afternoon, everybody, i'm larry beil. >> i'm carolyn johnson. an air and ground assault helped crews make quick work of a smoky grass fire this afternoon this, is the view. the fire broke out around 1:45. san jose fire helped limit it to just a few acres. there is no word yet on what

caused this fire. >> crews say they're getting a hand on the fire house fire north of los angeles. this started last week. the fire destroyed six homes and damaged six others. threatening a thousand structures. 2800 people have been evacuated some have nothing to return to. >> i lost everything i own. i don't have resources to rebuild over again. the flames were 200 feet high. it was horrible. we couldn't breathe. and flames charred more than 46 square miles, moist air helped crews gain ground on the flames. the fire now 40% contained. >> let's check on weather weather conditions here. >> spencer christian is here with the accu-weather forecast. >> we may get heat coming up but things are nice and cool live doppler 7 shows clouds

some linger in the early morning hours giving way to partly cloudy to mainly sunny skies into afternoon. high temperatures upper 50s at the coast to perhaps 80s into warmest locations but we have realt coming our way later in the week. >> an investigation is underway into why a century-old oak tree came crashing down on a group of 49ers coaches and their wives. they were gathering in a san jose park on saturday. one person suffer aid broken leg and others, cuts and scratches. we're live now in san jose. >> no question about it that. is one big tree. crews have been cutting up that tree since saturday when a gathering turned into a near brush with death. they'd rented the field where members of the law and bowling club were giving them lessons.

had their hands full this morning and had to clear 35 tree that blocked westbound lanes of lom barred street. that tree fell 4:30 a.m. you can see it crushed the back of a parked car and took a few hours to cut and clear that tree. >> the victim of a gang rape and beating is expected to take the snand a trial that started today in martinez. that attack happened during richmond high school home coming. the girl was raped beaten and robbed. the 22-year-old and 20-year-old suspects will be tried together with two jrz. we'll have more coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00. >> an oakland man got the maximum sentence for killing a

perspective google employee. huggins convicted of killing a 45-year-old in 2010 as he exited a dental office. kang shot after giving huggins $17 that he had in his pockets. kang was in the bay area for a interview. huggins identified on surveillance video after that murder and spoke during the sentencing maintaining his innocence. >> if you bought a purse orphansy jewelry from this burlingame store you may want to look closely. the owners are under investigation for selling counterfeit merchandise. there are some of the items police confiscated from nick ease european fashions. police raided the store after investigators purchased the fake fdz. the investigators were hired by companies like gucci, prada and rolex.

hundreds of pink slipz went out today in zynga. the company plans to close several offices. abc 7 news was outside when some workers began leaving for the last time. >> there has been a parade of laid off employees. a lot of hugs and boxes. employees got the word when showing up for work. the men and women behind some of the popular media games like farmville, zynga letting 520 people go from the company. that is 18% of the total work force.

oo want to give you an update on a fire in southern california we've mentioned that crews are gaining ground on what has been called the power house fire north of los angeles. you can see smoldering going on right there. according to one official nearly 3,000 people have been told they can return home now there were shots moments ago before we came back where you can see flames burning. we've got smouldering there. you can see there in the middle of the screen. fire still going but it's making progress. >> top brass announcing plans to address issue of side shows.
