>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> good morning, action, hope you had a great week, thanks for joining us this monday. >> talk about a change in the weather from the heat and now a little bit of rain. mike? >> we are falling. there is just a little bit of rain. maybe enough to cause the accidents that leyla gulen has been talking about but it is barely measurable, only enough to make everything wet. it pulls some of the oil up off the roadways and it is the first sign of wet weather that could cause issues, too. we will talk to leyla gulen in a second. i am tracking the storms with live doppler 7 hd, and we will head to the north, to the north of the north bay where the strongest storms are, 340 lightning strikes if the last hour. it is pulling away from the coast and pulling to to the wes. it is rolling along 580 headed to hayward and across the san mateo bridge and to points north, where you will have sprinkles for the morning commute. be prepared. leyla gulen?

>> we are tracking the accidents and we are finding wet areas but not in all areas where we have the accidents. you can see the areas of green and a little bit of blue to my left here. that is where we are seeing the heaviest portion of the rain affecting our roads. right now we have some slick conditions between hayward, right through oakland, and into berkeley but where we had this accident, it has just cleared westbound 80 at portrero avenue, and all lanes have re-opened and we down to six miles per hour, so into the single digits as you make the drive in the westbound direction, and eastbound is certainly not affected. as we go to pleasanton hill at monument boulevard that is a car that went off the roadway and hit a guardrail. we have emergency crews out there. right now, with a look at san jose commute, 101 headed beyond the san jose airport, it looks clear out there. kristen and eric? >> happening today, to to thousf high-tech developers will look

at the latest developments from apple, day one of the world-wide developers conference in san francisco, and abc7 news reporter matt keller has a review. matt? >> this is apple's first event to more than six months. people are excited. you can see the line outside of the moss -- moscone center. apple is expected to jump into the digital radio service which has itunes, the biggest seller of music in the united states and the new streaming music service is allowing you to play songs at random if free in certain genres. the stock prices has fallen amid concerns another breakthrough product is not expected until the fall. >> what they have innovated is now standard. can committee come up with new things? or continue to evolve the existing products that set them

private personally data from home wi-fi networks and google says this was unintentional and not illegal because wi-fi signals are radio communications that anyone can access. >> we have developing news concerning the whistleblower who realed the n.s.a. telephone surveillance cam. the 29-year-old contractor said he could seek asylum in iceland to avoid prosecution in the united states. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has the latest. >> we are learning more about him saying he leaked top secret documents and he fears for his safety, government officials want him prosecuted. snowden is hold up in a hong kong hotel after revealing him several over the weekend. the high school drop out claims to have, worked foe two spy agencies, first as a c.i.a. technician and then a civilian contractor in hawaii for the n.s.a. three months on the job he became mortified by top secret

>> developing news in san francisco where firefighters have discovered a mayor marijuana grow at the scene of a house fire. in the last 3 minutes, authorities removed a truck full of marijuana plants from the scene. the fire broke out shortly before 1:00 o'clock a.m. at a home on 35th avenue in san francisco's richmond district. firefighters say this was smoke coming from the garage when they arrived. they entered the home and they discovered hundreds of thousands worth of marijuana. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on the scene with an update next half hour. >> investigators will release their findings into the cause of a let seen fire in a walnut creek suburb over the weekend. we were the first to by you the story yesterday happening around 11:30. police state limousine was about to take off to sonoma for a 90th birthday party when the fire broke out. ten passengers and most elderly, all managed to get out, the

owner of the limousine company praised the driver for getting everyone out of the safely. >> my driver was wonderful. got everyone out. no one got hurt. that is the only thing that matters. >> the owner says the fire appears to have started in an electrical system behind the driver and adds the limousine had recently been inspected and he is surprised the fire happened. >> last week, abc7 news learned the cause of the limousine fire that killed five women on the san mateo bridge last month. it began in the rear of the stretch limousine and abc7 news learned that the air springs in the back of the vehicle ruptured setting off a domino affect that led to the fire. >> this morning, pleasanton police are investigating a collision that killed a bicyclist and injured another. investigators say a husband and his wife were riding together north on foothill road and a car hit them around 1:00 o'clock yesterday afternoon. the wife was then from her bicycle and died at the scene. her husband went to the hospital with non-life threatening

gotten more impressive moving across the parkway with yellows in this as it is headed to reliant way and warm springs boulevard on 680. as you head through that area and now as we move through sunol it moved away from the trail, and that is where we had an impressive one and moving across the northern section of dublin to san maroney is -- to san ramon, that is our next impressive one. it will be in san leandro in 25 minutes. the systems look very impressive but not a lot rain falling so there was a threat of fire coming from the dry thunderstorms. as we look across from alameda you can see the parkway through the bayview district and 3rd street, we are talking about toward daly city and all the

areas right now show a few sprinkles and a steady light rain and this is all moving, again, retrograding from east to west as the low sits to our south. the good news, it is weakening and the lightning strikes are becoming pew and far between and that usually means the storms are fading. we will keep a chance of a shower in the forecast at least through the early afternoon hours and it will be cooler-than-average this afternoon. more sunshine, cool tomorrow, and a slow warming trend for the weekend with temperatures back to average and just a few degrees warmer inland. temperatures are very mile out there, in the upper 50's to near 61 in oakland, the swarm spot. today, we will jump united states in the upper 60's around sunnyvale to 70 in santa clara and 72 in san jose, and moving up the peninsula we will have low-to-mid 50's around san mateo and mid-to-upper 50's along the coast and downtown and south san francisco about 63 and through

the north bay we are stuck in the mid-to-upper 60's and the coast is mid-to-upper 50's and the east bay valley upper 60's to mid-70's. here is the seven-day forecast, a few degrees warmer tomorrow, a couple more on when, a couple more on thursday, thursday and friday are the warmest two days in the forecast but nothing obnoxious like over the weekend. >> speaking of obnoxious we have obnoxious traffic with wet conditions if you are traveling loan -- traveling along 580. westbound a 80 at greenville we down to 18 miles per hour at tracy and it picks up to 24 miles per hour and it is stop-and-go. notice all the green and blue, this is possible rain or drizzle affecting your drive so that could be slowing traffic as they make their way into livermore. this crash westbound 80 is cleared at portrero avenue and top speeds from east richmond, a

into sonoma county the strongest thunderstorms where we are seeing them right now. over the last couple of hours, 368 lightning strikes. in fact, there was one just to the north of sea ranch and leyla gulen said it just start add fire, a small fire along the coast. lightning strike started a small fire north of sea ranch for an idea of how strong it is. in pittsburg in the eastern contra costa county if you live if this area the winds were very gusty in the evening and overnight hours and the high winds toppled the tree briefly and knocked out power in discovery bay. the guy who shot this said the gusts were hard and then it was quiet and it starts raining. what happened is the gusts front, the leading edge of cold air hit pittsburg and it got quiet and then it started to rain. that is what you have right this healthy looking tree on the ground and hopefully the power

will come back soon. >> as we head over to the altamont pass, where we are seeing this crash clear, we still have this in pleasanton hill, southbound 680 at monument boulevard, it is a car that went over the side and it rolled over and we have paramedics on the scene and the off-ramp is blocked so the drive is still looking cheer as we make it in the southbound direction northbound not affected. as we take it to the altamont pass, westbound 580 the crash is cleared and we down to 24 miles per hour with bumper to bumper-r traffickive to livermore with a 40-minute commute to make it into dublin. now a look at san jose and the sun is starting to come up and we see cars and six minutes to get from 101 to the julian off-ramp. >> developing news in san francisco where firefighters made a surprising discovery when they put out a house fire in the richmond district. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is on the scene. i imagine your sinuses are

clear. >> they pulled hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of pot out of the home. check out all of the bags of plants they pulled. it was enough to fill the flatbed of a pickup truck. firefighters found this at 35th avenue in san francisco's richmond district at 12:40 with smoke coming from the house. firefighterred had trouble getting in and the people living here did not want anyone to find the plants. >> the structures have been -- walls have been moved around to hiding what going on inside of the building so there are a lot of obstacles and electrical wiring. >> no one was home so no arrests have been made, firefighters say they did find a lost electrical wiring and hookups in the house. at this point police bet this was an electrical fire. they temperature me that pot was

pay off the triads. >> government officials say snowden was wreck misand dangerous and the justice department has launched a criminal investigation. >> jury selection begins today in the trial of the neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed an unarmed teenager in florida. george zimmerman killed 17-year-old trayvon martin in february of 2012 and is charged with second-degree murder. the question of self-defense or murder will be answered by the people selected from the 500 member jury pool. george zimmerman could testify at the trial claims that martin attacked him. george zimmerman face as life sentence if convicted. >> the supreme court could hand down the decision today on prop 8, the ban on same-sex marriage, and today it is another opportunity for the high court to issue a ruling on the controversial issue before its term ends at the end of the month. the decision on this and several other big issues could come any time in june. the court heard arguments in manner and justices poised to

rule on the fell defense of marriage act and if a ruling comes down today, we will bring you the rule and reaction when it happens. >> public safety takes center stage? san jose tonight when budget talks for the upcoming year are underway. the city council homed as hague -- hold as hearing tonight. they are calling for $16 million to restore police officers pay and $8 million for fire department staffing paid for by hiring or expiring federal grants. the total propose budget stands at $2.6 billion and covers basic services and fire. the general fund of $934 million also covers parks and recreation, transportation, libraries and reserves. $748 million is allocated for capital improvements that include the airport, roadways and water treatment. >> this morning, sunnyvale

police are getting ready to look at surveillance video to determine what led to the city's first homicide of the year. police found a man shot to death in the parking lost the peacock lounge yesterday. he was a security guard for the sports bar. another person was injured in a sooting which happened during a party at the bar. the person has since been released from the hospital. police will review video from cameras to find out what happened. >> oakland police headquarters is set to re-open after a plumbing issue. it started with everflowing toy lit on the third floor on tuesday and the building re-opened the next morning but closed again when the "fix" was more complicated than thought. the drying out process left a lingering chemical smell and it should be back to normal today. >> a natural form of moisture out there this morning? >> how about that, june

surprise, maybe because we do not get were rain this time of the year. if you are watching over the weekend you knew this would happen. from fremont to union city and hayward we have our best radar return and yellow showing up that pulled away from third street and fremont headed up to 38 toward union city and you can see right here moving to the east of fairway street across arrowhead way we will find our best radar runs and as you head out hayward boulevard to the east beyond the country club we had a little bit of wet weather and at north canyon and crow canyon that is where we had light rain. we are not getting downpours but you can see the yellows and reds but we are getting light rain because the air mass is so dry. we still have a chance of showers, and the threat of thunder is tapering rapidly as we head to 7:00, and there is still a chance of rain through

noon and the low pulls away. we are stuck in the 60's and 50's from noon all the way until 7:00. >> good morning, everyone, at 5:39 we have an accident in sausalito and we will take a trip in the moment but, first, northbound 101 at spencer we have an accident that is blocking a lane and we are seeing wet conditions in some areas of the bay. right now, we will go to the toll plaza as we come out of oakland in san francisco we are starting to see traffic loading up but, still, accident free in san francisco and here is the golden gate bridge, coming from sausalito and into san francisco, we do have a lie wind advisory and the cartinez and richmond san rafael bridges and here is the san mateo bridge making the drive from hayward to foster city. again, we are not seeing any accidents but we have clouds out there. we are hoping to bring more sunshine to your commute. we are giving away some gift cards so there will be a lot of relief from drivers with the gas

>> covering daily news in the bay area. >> another victim of a shooting rampage in son california has died. santa monica police say 26-year-old marcela franco died from the incident after she and her father were picking up textbooks and shot by 23 -year-old. her gather died immediately. a short time later the suspect

shot and killed his father and brother and then four others at college. >> the central valley can expect cooler weather today but not after soaring temperatures claimed the life of a baby in fresno. police say a family was taking groceries in from the car on saturday and forgot about the 15-month-old. an hour later the family realized the child was not in the house and they found the boy inside the car. they took him to the hospital but he died there. temperatures outside topped 100 degrees. investigators are calling the incident a tragic accident and the parents will not face charges. >> legislative leaders at the statement california toll hope to finalize a proposal an a new california budget meeting with governor brown over the weekend and for the first time in years the talks were not about spending cuts. the san francisco chronicle reports they were focused on how were tax revenue will come to the state coffers next year projected $100 billion.
