>> abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> work at the new 49ers stadium in santa clara comes to a stop after a worker is killed in a tragic construction accident. thanks for joining us. >> this is the first serious accident at the 49ers new $1 billion stadium project. abc7 news matt keller is there. how did this happen, matt? >> they don't know. we were told the coroner is wrapping up the investigation. more than a thousand workers would be here but the death led to them being sent home for the

day. the 9-1-1 call came at 6:50. supervisors say a worker for the elevator was in a permanent elevator shaft on the ground floor when he was killed. >> we have released all of our workers do be with their families. we will have an investigation which frees site up and people can handle the grief open their own. >> no one is saying what exactly killed the worker but police, fire, and osha are all here. the supervisors say this is the first serious accident at the 49ers stadium construction site. in fact, safety awards were handed out last week to the companies with zero accidents. supervisors say in timeline has been given to when construction will begin again. when it does, they will convene everyone in the bowl of the stadium before they start work to go over safety procedures.

coverage of the deadly construction accident at the new 49ers stadium. you can also get updates on twitter@abcnews. >> haz-mat is investigating a suspicious package delivered to a medical malpractice insurance company. everyone in the company in napa have been evacuateed. authorities say the call came in shortly before 8:00 a.m. it is still unclear what was in the pack only if it is contaminated. right new, officials taking extra precaution until they necessity for sure. >> vallejo police are looking for a suspect in the shooting that sent a 38-year-old man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. officers responding to 9-1-1 calls found the victim lying in the intersection of grand and magazine streets around 7:30 with multiple gun shot wounds. this video provided by the vallejo police department. at the same time, police say officers spotted a small black nissan speeding away.

they chased it and reaped speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour through city streets before the driver got away. >> happening now in the south bay the santa clara county district attorney is discussing a huge gang safety with a 21-year-old and 440-year-old man, a 20-year old man, and 22-year-old charged with murdering a man last august while members of the gang that include 77 indictments against 38 men and ten women defendants for various crimes including murder, attempted murder, and at least five bank robberies. we will bring you new detail on the news conference coming up later news. >> san francisco firefighter was hurt in a house fire in the bayview district this morning. the tire was report the at 2:30, so sleeping families had to make

she could not movie it was happening to her again. >> i didn't know what to do. i just wasn't moving. i was numb. i can't do this again. >> there were six people asleep in the home when it caught fire, including a five-year-old boy. his mother woke up, realized what was happening and got everyone out. >> he was crying. he was worried about his grandmother. >> the family got out okay. they spent the morning just looking in disbelief at burned home that has been in the family if -- for 50 years. >> we all grew up in the house. >> they cannot believe this is now happened twice. >> i lost a lot at first. to go through something like this again...devastating. >> the red cross has found a place for the family to stay for

now. the family says they will rebuild. a firefighter hurt his ankle and was treated at the hospital and has been released. >> police in san jose state university are telling students to watch out for a man russia slashed a female student on campus last night. the man asked the student on a date and then, supposed himself to her. she threatened to call application and he took off. he is hispanic, 5' 7", between 20 and 25 years old, with a sharks hat and blue jeans. >> police have released sketches of a man who robbed a market in scotts valley at a store on victor square on thursday. he is described as his pang man in his early 30's with a band-aid on the left cheek and a tattoo on his neck and last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt, baseball hat, and jeans. >> still ahead, he could be the

>> firefighters rushed to a fire in the hat of downtown berkeley at a 40 unit n ash hotel. people were hanging on the

window calling for help at 7:40 and many were rescued from fire escapes in the frontñç and the back. the hotel hasships on the ground floor. firefighters were able to put out the place quickly. no word of injuries. some lanes are still closed on university avenue as the crews are mopping up. >> happening now in new jersey, princeton university is under evacuation after someone called in a bomb net to several buildings. right now the university is telling all students and most employees to leave and not return to the campus until further notice. princeton says local state and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating the unspecified threat and they are going to each and every building. some summer sessions are in progress. >> international hunt is on to find the man would admits to leaking top secret documents about the u.s. government phone and internet surveillance programs. there is a growing number of people who say snowden should be

tomorrow. >> president obama says the moment is now to act to overhaul the broken immigration laws. the president made a case for the legislation at the white house this morning. he was flanked by members of both parties, clergy, law enforcement and oakland police consultant william bratton. the push comes hours before the full senate holds the first vote on the landmark bill. he says the legislation isn't perfect but needs to become law. >> this is a bill that's largely consistent with the principles that i and the people on this stage have laid out for common sense reform. >> that legislation would create a path to citizenship for many of the 11 million people in this country who are here illegally, the supporters say it would be a massive investment in border security and give employers a way to check if they are here legally. >> new study find as heart
