more are threatened. it forced the evacuation of 9,000 residents. million dollar homes exploded into flames this afternoon in the black forest northeast of colorado springs. that fire has charred 48 square miles of land and brush. fire officials say they do not have the man power to mount an effective counter attack. and a ferocious round of severe weather struck the midwest. two tornadoes struck northern iowa. you can see them both in this photo. the twisters damaged buildings and knocked out power. no one was hurt though. one flight to oakland and three flights to sfo were canceled as a result of the storms. with more on that severe weather as well as our own let's check in now with abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel and a look at live doppler 7hd. sand yaw? >> carolyn, we want to show you the radar and show you what it looks like. you will see we have strong thunderstorms moving across the midwest. as they are ripping across the midwest they will be shifting to the mid-atlantic states. if you are traveling for business tomorrow keep that in mind.

hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. he leaves behind a five-year-old son. more than a hundred stage technicians technicians who put on last month's the bottle rock festival are getting stiffed out of their wages. that's one of the difficulties facing organizers. they are also in a dispute with the catering company. they promised to donate a million dollars to charities has not been fulfilled. are owed $630,000 of wages and benefits. organizers say they are going to make sure everyone gets paid. and hundreds of bats -- yes bats have found a home in downtown sacramento. this is happening right on 10th street. that is a busy thoroughfare. the nest is between two buildings, a spot they say is warm and reminds the bats of a cave when the sun goes down. the bats stream into the night hunting for inis secretaries. for insects. they are coming out of a narrow crack, but they rarely attack humans.

injuries. detectives consider his death suspicious. and a 21-year-old man died after he was shot on d street in downtown antioch just before 12:30 this morning. this latest violence comes as antioch is facing a critical shortage of police officers. today the city's police chief used social media to reassure residents that police are doing everything possible to is is abc7 news reporter alan wang. >> antioch police admit they are outnumbered on the streets. >> they bashed in this window. >> andrea who just got her car broken into says crime in antioch is out of control and there aren't enough police officers. >> if i called 9-1-1 and say this is what is going on, okay, we will be there and i say what is going. >> on the facebook page the chief says he is trying to hire 25 officers to meet the city's authorized force of 102. >> we can't do it alone. we look upon our neighborhood watch groups and in this case

in pennsylvania following a controversial double lung transplant. sara suffers from cystic fibrosis. she got a new pair of lungs from an adult donor. the judge ruled that sara was eligible. they were considered too small for adult lungs and some were concerned that other parents may not try to sue their way to the top of an organ recipient list. facebook changed its policy on mastectomy photos. the menlo park company says they will no longer remove the photos. the company says it will never ban the photos of mastectomies, buts they were removed when they were reported offensive. >> a sad situation in new york city. it could have been much worse if not for the quick thinking of a young mother. the 17-year-old mom was pushing her eight-month-old daughter in a stroller when a towncar jumped the sidewalk and plowed into them and pining the stroller underneath. the dazed mother quickly got to her feet and was able to pull the child to safety. incredibly both suffered only
