we are here in union city to stay in touch with officers throughout the morning. fire department reports that a pit bull or a pit bull mix mauled a six-year-old boy on elizabeth way in union city. neighbors say the boy lives here at the home with his grandparents and several cousins. >> nice family. always real nice and played outside and having good time. really good kids. just really sad this had happened. >> neighbors say at least two pit bulls live there at home and animal control took one of dogs away. the police department has said they will be telling us more today. stay with abc7 news as we continue to follow this story. san jose police are asking for the public's help in fighting a

hit-and-run driver who killed a bicyclist. they found the victim near his bike yesterday afternoon on the taylor street overpass and highway 87, very close to downtown san jose. police believe a small section of bumper came off the car and analyzing for clues and investigators are looking to talk to witnesses and hope someone with information comes forward. we'll have more on the story with a live report from matt keller at the top of the hour. >> police in walnut creek are investigating an armed robbery at a motel. two people entered the facility and demanded money from the front desk. they are described as black men in their early 20s, both about six feet with thin builds. one was wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and black and white gloves. for the third time in five weeks someone has been

attacked at a lookout in the east bay. it's the same area of grizzly peak boulevard where a man was shot and killed last month. two men robbed the couple saturday morning. they pistol whipped the man before taking off. robbers are still on the loose. on june 3rd a group of people attacked two people. a naked man accused of harassing bart passengers is expected to make a court appearance. the video shows the man terrorizing customers. they released him because of lack of evidence but these reinvestigated with the help of immigration officials. immigration officials say he is the u.s. on expired

visa. >> there has been a video released attacking a woman on a metro train. abc news got the video that happened on tuesday. they attacked the 67-year-old passenger and stole two purses she was carrying. this happened on the t-third street line in the bay view. suspects are believed to be 13-14 years old. >> developing news in vallejo where police are investigating a deadly drive-by shooting and a city's second fatal shooting in two days. it left a woman dead and three people wounded. shots were fired from the vehicle into a home on santa clara street just before 6:00 last night. sky 7 was over the scene as police investigated. witnesses say they heard several gunshots. investigators say all of the victims are adults who appear to have been targeted. they are trying to determine if the shooting was gang-related. >> the marin county board of supervisors is expected

on the need to stop the violence and securing chemical weapons in that country. putin has negotiated for peace talks the russian president is only one that backs the assad regime. >> developing news, more evacuations have been ordered near yosemite national park where a wildfire is burning out of control. it has burned at least 1600 acres and still growing because of gusty winds and dry brush. fire is only 15% contained. so far no structures have burned and there is no word on a cause. fire officials expected full containment next week. >> hope the weather will be conducive to fire fighting. >> today it will be a little more agreeable as far as fire conditions are concerned. it will be the coolest day of the week and seeing temperatures topping out in the mid-70s across the bay area, mostly in the 60s and 50s. we take a look at live

doppler 7-hd. radar and sat light. we are seeing coastal drizzle and in the east bay but most of fog and low lying clouds making their way into the bay area. here look from the mount tam cam. you can see the light in the distance and clear skies as we look toward san francisco. current conditions we are looking at 54 degrees in san francisco. 57 in oakland. upper 50s for south bay. as we plan for a day planner for the next 12 hours this morning, we will see patchy low clouds coming in and temperatures going to be 58 degrees inland as we head into noon, those clouds will burn off and temperatures will increase and then we'll see a cool off on wednesday. right now, let's go to traffic where we have a serious accident. this will along 4 in the eastbound direction.

it's involving, on railroad avenue. the thing is all of our traffic moving in westbound direction so that is decent news as you make your drive to work. this is an accident and we have an excavation slowing, blocking a couple of lanes but looks like traffic is moving smoothly in castro valley that is shot of the oakland maze and no accidents. things are moving along at top speeds. an accused serial killer goes on trial in the bay area. next, his opening defense and the evidence preparation say that proves his he is guilty. >> another worker is attacked at napa state hospital. >> and nasa's newest

4:41. testimony is expected to begin in a trial accused serial killer joseph naso. he is acting as his own attorney. he says he is not guilty of killing four women in the '70s and '90s. he told the jury, quote, i'm not the monster who killed these women. i didn't do that. i dated and dance and i don't kill people. he didn't sway some court observers. >> it's very far to get away with murder. they found dna and belongings in the house. it's not looking good. >> the prosecution put on a dlis display of evidence found in his home during a probation search that included photos of some of the victims who appear to be conscious or dead. the judge says the trial could last up to five months. meantime, the i-team has uncovered a possible fifth

victim. you can find the story at abc7news.com. yet another worker has been attacked at napa state hospital. this time a safety device because of past attacks may be the reason she is all right. here is more from napa. >> reporter: when medical workers arrive at napa state hospital the signs of first thing they see, pbs stands for personal distress alarm system. it's the same thing when she activated last night when she was attacked by a patient. the alarms sounded. >> other staff members responded immediately to the alarm. patient was arrested by hospital police without further incident. the nurse went to a hospital on her own. she was treated and released. >> it happens. >> the staffer who doesn't want his face on camera she

may have been saved by the pds device. >> you can call the police department. >> the alarms were launched last year after a nurse was strangled by a patient in 2010. since then in have been other attacks by violent patients. they demanded more improvements and more police officers have been hired. in napa, cornell bernard, "abc 7 news." >> new out of colorado, a tornado. a small tornado touched down last night about two hours southeast of colorado springs. winds of up to 50 miles an hour slashed through the area leaving downed power poles in that part of the town. these photos just into the newsroom this morning are from one of the local fire departments. there were no injuries but

this morning the town is facing some minor flooding. northwest of there, the massive black forest fire has destroyed 500 homes. investigators think the fire was caused by a person either accidentally or intentionally. the fire is nearing full containment and some evacuees are being allowed back into their homes. two people were killed in the worst fire in colorado spate history. >> it was a long night for the san francisco giants and fans at soldout at&t park. giants lost to the san diego padres in a game that didn't end until nearly midnight. it was tied at 3 when a bunt put them ahead at 4-3. they walked in another run with the bases loaded made it 5-3.

next year. the lab is tried to avoid involuntary layoffs. they are trying to cut 200 employees. they are offering a week's pay for every year worked up to 26 weeks. >> a new report suggests that america needs smaller numbers of better trained teachers. national council on teacher quality surveyed more than a thousand education programs at u.s. colleges and universities and issued a scathing review. they found that the programs graduate almost three times more education majors than needed and fewer of them are prepared to handle a classroom. as the summer travel sciences begins, u.s. travelers are a little more happier with the airlines. satisfaction index went from 66 to 69% and second straight year of improvement. overall satisfaction with the industry is still
