the bay bridge, top speeds out there, no crashes, katie? >> leyla, thank you. coming up on 6:02. developing news. no, we have breaking news from richmond right now. police are investigating a shooting that left a 30-year-old man dead. it happened around midnight on pullman avenue. police actually called out the s.w.a.t. team to search for the gunman and as a result, officers had to eadvantage wait an apartment complex. police did not find the gunman though yet and the search is ongoing. a reminder, get breaking news updates any time on twitter, follow us at abc7 news bay area. new details on the possible labor strike looming ahead for b.a.r.t. commuters. abc7 news reporter matter ask live at the fremont b.a.r.t. station with the new step workers are taking next week. matt? >> reporter: yeah, a strike authorization vote is scheduled for this tuesday. the people we spoke with here at the fremont b.a.r.t. station are split on whether or not they think a strike will really happen. now, b.a.r.t. union workers were handing out leaflets to riders

at stations warning of a possible strike on july 1st if they don't receive pay increase and better protection. the current contract expires june 30th. unions representing 945 train operators, station agents and workers will hold their strike aught lizization votes tuesday. one passenger is certain a strike will happen. >> i guess i have to drive. >> that costs a lot more for you, right? >> yeah. >> a how much more? >> a lot more. >> reporter: they are asking workers pay into their pensions and pay more for medical insurance a mediator was brought in this week to help with negotiations. unions have to give management 72 hours before they strike. b.a.r.t. hasn't seen a strike since 1997. reporting live in fremont, matt keller, abc7 news. >> matt, thank you. we have developing news this morning. investigators are trying to determine the cause of a muni bus crash in san francisco. the bus pushed the car nearly a

block. a muni spokesman says the driver of a car made an illegal u-turn right in front of the 43 masonic bus. witnesses say the bus kept going. police say a passenger on the bus actually to run to the front, help the driver stop the bus. it's just not clear why the passenger had to help. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield will have a live report in the next half hour. developing news out of massachusetts. abc news has learned this morning an arrest warrant has been issued for new england patriots player aaron hernandez. the 23-year-old patriots tight end has not been arrested yet, wanted on an obstruction of justice charge in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old semipro football player. sources tell abc news that police plan to go back to hernandez's home today with a new warrant on claims that he destroyed his home security system. they say the player turned his cell phone over to investigators after breaking it into pieces first.

surveillance video reportedly shows hernandez this week with the victim just hours before he was killed. giants pitcher, barry zito is mourning you the loss of his father. the giant announced yesterday that joseph zito died at his home on wednesday in van nuys. he was 84 years old. barry zito often cited his father's influence in his life and his baseball career. barry zito has issued this statement. he says, "through his unprecedented dedication as a father, he instilled in me the faculties which have named me to handle all of life's challenges in a positive way. he will forever be in my heart. god bless my father and i know that one day, i will be reunited with he and my mother, roberta." zito is still scheduled to pitch tomorrow against the marlins. oakland video hopes brazen theft will lead them to the suspects. someone rammed into a gas station on park boulevard and stole an atm. this is surveillance video from the gas station.

you can see the truck back into a bulletproof window three times before it was able to crash all the way through. then a man attached a chain to the machine to pull it off the wall. two men then lifted the heavy atm into the back of the trunk and drove off. this all took less than two minutes. the front of the store was destroyed. >> now they have to get the money out of a machine. federal agents need your help catching an accused mail fraud suspect who may be looking for a tech job in the bay area. u.s. marshals service says 38-year-old bruce lee marshall is wanted for mail fraud charges after he scammed $100,000 from a san francisco tech startup where he once worked. agents believe he is still in the bays area and is looking for work as a software engineer. a bay area search is under way for a 20-year-old man suspected in a rash of knock knock burglaries in the peninsula a judge issued an arrest warrant for melvin bell regard in san francisco. bell regard is suspected in recent break-ins in san mateo,

hillsborough. in door knock burglaries, the thief knocks on the door to see if anyone is home. if someone answers, he makes up an excuse and leave. pg&e executive says utility customers may not see any notable change in their monthly bill, depending on how state regulators penalize the company over the deadly san bruno pipeline fire. the california public utilities commission is considering a proposal to fine pg&e with $2.25 billion for the 2010 blast and fire. the san francisco chronicle reports early says the utility wants some of the money it already spent on natural gas improvements to count toward that penalty. pleasanton-based ross stores has agreed to pay almost $4 million in fines for knowingly selling defective children's clothing. the consumer products safety commission says ross sold the clothes even after the agency warned the company that

thousands of sweatshirts and jackets with drawstrings at the waist could strangle the child. the agency says there were no reported injuries or deaths from the ross clothing sales. customers felt pressured to sign petitions or buy products. some were followed to their cars. rail his and other stores are part of this. after several yearser of cuts, san francisco is looking to add jobs and increase spending on new programs. among the proposal, whether the city should spend millions on hiv and aids treatment programs. 6:08 now.

a peninsula girl will be dining at the white house next month with first lady michelle obama. 12-year-old rose scott of menlo park was one of 754 winners in a nationwide recipe challenge to promote healthy lunches as part of the first lady's let's move initiative. rose and a guest will be attending the event on july 9th. this is video of the inaugural state luncheon last year. more than 1300 8- to 12-year-olds entered the contest, each submitting a recipe for a healthy entree, recipe or dessert. rose's entry was pork and tofu lettuce cups. >> making my stomach growl. bring them by. a taste test. >> great idea. first day of summer. >> a beautiful day for a picnic, you want to take that delicious meal outside. for today, as we wear on through the afternoon hours, going to be seeing temperatures warming up just a bit, still looking at patchy clouds along the coast making its way inland.

the 60 degrees along the coast, 70 around the bay. 80, seeing upper 80 degrees in the inland areas. right now though, as we take a look at what's happening, it is all due to this, a trough of low pressure pushing its way to the east with this jetstream, being replaced by this ridge of high pressure coming in and bringing warmer conditions, but just behind it is this other low bringing in cooler temperatures, although we are going to be warmer today and tomorrow, sunday, a possible chance of some showers and rain on monday and tuesday as well. here's a live look from our roof, there it is, bay bridge, beautiful sight indeed. next few days what we will be seeing, 88 inland for tomorrow, a chance of rain on sunday, cooling off and cooling off again on monday. 68 degrees only in the inland areas, 66 around the bay, 56 along the coast. start to change t will start to warm up a little bit. all right, now as we head back over to our roadways, traffic is looking pretty decent. seeing a lot of green on this map. we have had a few accidents.

anti-government demonstration. this video into our newsroom overnight shows some of the clashes between protesters and police just hours ago. you can see the police using tear gas. brazil's president is holding emergency cabinet meetings today. not all the demonstrations are violent though. thousands of people peacefully marched last night as well. this all comes one week after a smaller demonstration about an increase in bus and subway fares. happening today, trading will get under way on wall street in just about 15 minutes. this is one day after the dow's worst day of the year. it sent 401(k) accounts plunging. investors getting rid of stocks and bonds sent the dow falling nearly 354 points. abc's devon da wiper join us live from washington, d.c. to explain what's behind this wall street shakeup. good morning, devon. >> reporter: hey, good morning, katie. after that huge selloff yesterday, u.s. stock futures rose overnight. experts are telling us to get used to these ups and downs. it's shaping up to be a volatile

summer on wall street. it's been a turbulent week for american 401(k)s and it's not over yet. overnight, markets in europe and asia bounced back from heavy losses, one day after wall street saw its worst day all year. >> it's like a perfect storm out there this week. >> reporter: investors say the storm is, in part, because of some good news about the economy. last month, employers added 175,000 new jobs with unemployment expected to fall below 7% next year. existing home sales are also picking up, posting their best month in 3 1/2 years. but recovery from recession mean he is the federal reserve could pull back on its stimulus pro, which has pumped billions into the system to help drive growth. >> our economy is getting better and now it's time for us to see how we can do it on our own. >> reporter: potential shift by the fed has shaken some investors who feared the economy is not as strong as it seems. some also worry record low interest rates could disappear.

for the second straight year, the nba champions are the miami heat. of course, led by lebron james. lebron led the heat over the spurs in game seven of the nba finals. he scored 37 points. he grabbed 12 rebounds. this game was tight until the final minutes when miami pulled away. tim duncan missed two opportunities to triallate in the fourth. here and the heat beat the spurs, 95-88. lebron was named mvp for the second consecutive finals. it's the heat's third championship in franchise history. and heat fans celebrated in the streets of miami after the game. some chanted and banged pots and pans into the early morning hours. the celebrations remained peaceful. the heat's victory parade will be held monday morning in downtown miami.

a bay area man pulled off the ultimate marriage proposal after a popular airline agreed to play along. adam from san francisco asked jetblue to play a proposal video for his girlfriend, taron, during a flight from san francisco to long beach two days ago. the airline agreed and played a video on all 150 tvs. once the video ended, as you see, adam got down on a knee and proposed. then came the tears of joy. and a yes. you hear the cheering there from passengers and flight attendants. and they even handed out cake pops to celebrate. and the surprise continued once they landed. police say the car tried to cut in front of the bus and ended up under it. police are saying it was an illegal u-turn by that car right in front of that 43 masonic bus that caused this. witnesses say the driver of that black car, that volkswagen, was not hurt. >> halfway through the crash, i was thinking, oh, my god, it's not going to stop. we quickly ran away. it was a narrow miss at that point. >> i felt bad for some of the bicyclists who had their bikes pinned between the cars and the bus on there. they got them back and didn't seem that much worse for wear. a 16-year-old is dead following a shooting in broad daylight. happened on wednesday on virginia avenue. our media part earthquake in the mercury news, reports the 16-year-old victim died yesterday after noon. he has been identified as manuel

erz put. a of san jose. he is now the city's 25th homicide victim of 2013. after more than a year, the search headquarters for missing morgan hill teenager, sierra lamar is relocated. the volunteer search center is set up at central high school in morgan hill two miles from its original location at burnett elementary. volunteers have searched more than 1500 square miles since the 15-year-old disappeared in march of last year. 22-year-old an tall lean garcia torres is in custody on murder charges but has not entered a plea. he is due back in court next thursday. a union city family is struggling to come to terms with the loss of 56-year-old child. he died monday when the family dog attacked him. the family wanted to tell abc7 news reporter vic lee about what happened to 6-year-old nephi selu. he just graduated from kindergarten last week. monday, he was playing in the backyard with his cousins.

they say nephi had been riding the dog like a horse when it suddenly threw him down and bit him on the head. relatives say it is especially hard to understand since the boy and the pitbull were best friends. the boy's uncle, a san mateo police officer, says he bought the dog two years ago. >> brought the dog into our home as a pet to help protect life and to help watch over. by no means did we know it was going to take life. >> vic lee says the family wants to send a message that their child was precious and no matter how much a pet becomes a member of the family, they are still animals and they can be unpredictable. the movie "fruitvale station" about oscar grant's last day opens in the bay area in a few weeks. last night, a special screening was held at the grand lake theater in oakland. the movie focuses on grant's life leading up to his fatal shooting. the 22-year-old was killed by a b.a.r.t. police officer on new year's day four years ago. 27-year-old ryan cooler wrote and directed the movie.

he says it is based on public records and interviews with grant's family and friends. input from the police was never considered. >> platform and the officer is a very small part of the project. you know, the majority of the film is about this man's life. >> cooler insists the movie does not glorify oscar grant, just tries to humanize him. "fruitville station" opens in the bay area, new york and los angeles july 12th and nationwide two weeks later. the autopsy star for "sopranos" star james gandolfini took place overnight. official cause of his death could take a month. those results are expected to confirm the 51-year-old actor died of a heart attack. he passed away wednesday while on vacation with his family in italy. photos taken the day before he died were released and snapped by an american tourist, show him enjoying dinner and company. they were taken less than 24 hours before he died.
