good afternoon, i'm larry beil. >> happening now a massive wildfire is racing through colorado and threatening a small tourist town. this time lapse video shows a fire burning 240 miles southwest of denver, which is consumed 47 square miles of brush and forest. >> cruise say the tourist town will be soon overrun by flames. the 400 residents have been evacuated. the fire is two separate blazes, both started by

lightning and combined over the weekend. there is hot, dry and windy weather that is trance formed the state in a tinder box. a small grass fire burned a hillside around noon near the exit. it spread up some steep terrain there. >> we're talking about colorado but fire danger is high in the bay area as well this, forecast offers kind of a mixed bag. >> that is right. spencer christian joins us with a look at the forecast. >> let's take a look at current conditions, highs so far, warm in areas but not hot. we have high temperatures up to 88 so far in fairfield. and relative humidity in the average range but breezy in spots. not anything like what we saw

the u.s. has asked hong kong to detain snowden, he's been there since last month. snowden worked in hawaii for a firm that does contract work for the nsa. he revealed many details to a reporter in hong kong. the program collected data about phone calls and internet traffic. >> san jose has seen an increase in gang violence. wednesday, gang members shot a 6-year-old boy to death. >> abc 7 news joins us live in san jose with more on this plan. >> we're on round table drive in edenvale. one of the target areas is starting tonight. the problem so serious, police can no longer use the exuse of having 300 fewer officers than

>> a four-hour standoff is over after a burglary suspect surrendered peace fly. police say the man stole lap tops from an office in west oakland at 10:45 this morning. police officers chased him into an apartment near 7th where he refused to give up. >> jobless numbers out today show unemployment fell in half of the 50 states last month including california. that marks first time it's dipped below 9% since november, 2008, however, california still has the sixth highest jobless rate. that is down 364,000 compared to may, last year. >> stocks ended up today, only

slightly. on wednesday and thursday, the dow shed 550 points after the federal reserve said it's going to end the bond buying program. today, dow up 41 points. s and p 500 rose four points, nasdaq fell seven points. all three stocks gained between 11% and 13% since january. a judge deciding whether to block a controversial caltrans project. that would build a bypass for highway 101 in a small town. caltrans director is defending the plan.

a judge has to decide if opponents have made the case for stopping it. highway 101 runs through the center of little willis, south of town it's a four-lane freeway. coming into town turning into main street with five traffic lights. this town does have a traffic problem. there is broad agreement that a bypass around town is a good idea the question, where? and how big? caltrans says traffic and population growth justify a four-lane bypass through a sensitive part of the valley. opponents say numbers are off. >> we've gone back because there have been questions q skd about the bypass and looked at when we've looked at skpaift operations throughout the city and believe that that

an autopsy on james gandolfini showed he died of a heart attack. he passed away wednesday while on vacation with his family in itally. the funeral for the 51-year-old will be held next week in new york. the exact date will depend on when the body is returned to the u.s.. photos believed to be the last pictures taken of gandolfini showed him dining in roevm, relaxing and enjoying company of others in a table. those pictures snapped by an american tourist. >> the food network will not be renewing celebrity chef paula dean's contract after she admitted she used racial slurs in the past. the decision came after dean's tear afl polling. >> taking this opportunity now

investigators may be closing in in on new england plyer aaron hernandez for obstruction of justice in a had many side near his home. hernandez, a tight end for the patriots has not yet been taken into custody of in the death investigation of his friend but has become the focus of a criminal investigation. police were inside of the home of aaron earn yez -- hernandez continuing into the shooting death of 27-year-old odin lloyd. neighborhood surveillance shows the men together around 2:00 a.m. hours after lloyd was shot in the head but the surveillance video from learn -- hernandez's house was intentionally destroyed and the cell phone he turned over, smashed. >> i believe it's telling he has knowledge, if not involve nmt this particular homicide. >> investigators want to know why a team of housekeepers were hired to skrub the
