francisco. c.h.p. has been busy with rain-related crashes. >> yes, with wet weather yesterday and today and calling for help to c.h.p. have increased by 4 percent. this is nothing new. when it rains in the bay area there are more crashes and more need for their assistance. >> when it rains we have an increase in crashes and some are very serious. >> a deadly start on highway 880 in fremont a big rig and car collide killing the driver of the car before 5:00 a.m. three lanes were blocked for hours and the california highway patrol continues to investigate the cause but the rainy conditions made if a slick and dangerous commute this morning. >> unfortunately, a lot of people will slow down for a heavy downpour but not for a light rain. >> to the north at 7:00, the heavy rain likely contributed to a jackknifed big rig in the sonoma county after the driver

lost control and ran off the road crash into the guardrail. the truck fuel tank ruptured sending fuel into the road and forcing one-way traffic control as haz-mat responded to the single vehicle wreck. >> we see a lot of solo spinouts that is because of the loss of traction. >> that loss of traction is most common in on-ramps and off-ramps and roundabouts. also, c.h.p. asked me to remind drivers when there is a reduction in visibility when it is raining and your windshield wipers are on you must turn on your headlights. >> thank you. some parts of the bay area had steady rain this morning and here is video from lombard street in san francisco.

the windshield wipers were working hard with the rain coming down in the marina district. >> in north bahrain fell for the morning and this is video from highway 101 in san rafael the hadder hit area. look at these clouds. sky 7 captured the gray cloud cover dropping rain and mist. >> today the supreme court will headache a decision on two key issues concerning same-sex marriage. california's proposition 8 the ban on bay marriage and the federal defense of marriage act. we go to san francisco city hall. >> the countdown is on. tomorrow, the fate of prop 8 is known. battle for marriage equality began here nine years ago and will likely end here. many couples will gather to hear of the supreme court ruling.

network comcast channel 195 and 715. >> new this morning, president obama says he is deeply disappointed with the supreme court decision to strike down a key part of the voting rights act. this morning in 5-4 vote the justices put an end to provision which passed congress in 1965 during the civil rights movement. the goal of the law was to stop voting discrimination. the supreme court says the current law does not reflect racial progress and changes in united states society. the court decision means the government can no longer use the same formula to determine which states require extra scrutiny. >> happening today, bart labour unions are holding a vote on whether to authorize a strike. the vote comes as the unions and the transit agency failed to reach an agreement in negotiations over pay and benefits. the contracts between bart and the unions expires on sunday and if a new contract is not in place, a strike is possible. some commuters remain surprised to hear a strike could be on the

detectives at a police substation. >> we brought you pictures this morning when the story first broke and right now, 25 blocks of the mid-city area are locked down and they could stay that way until at least noon. police have three "person of interest" in custody but they do not know if one of them is the shooter. and the officers who are shot are trying to figure that out. look at this video. you can see an unmarked white car at the entrance of the police station. two undercover officers were inside the car returning from their shift at 4:30 this morning when someone ambushed them, opening fire on the car from behind. an lapd commander says that one officer received a head wound and was grazed or hit by flying fragments from the car. the other officer received an injury to his hand. both officers are okay and back on the job. >> both officers have been treated and released. they are back at the command pest. they helping to try and identify

>> covering daly city, dublin, los gatos and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> new this morning the housing market continues to pickup steam with the biggest annual jump in home prices in ten years. according to the indeb, prices jumped 12.percent in april compared to last year measuring prices in the top 20 real estate markets across the nation. here in the bay area san francisco home prices rose 24 percent from a year ago. economists say strong deplan and tight supply are behind that spike. from march to april prices climbed 2.5 percent the biggest one month rise in the 12 year history of the index. >> meteorologist mike nicco is

back. we happy to have you back. please, tell us you didn't cut your vacation short to be part of this strange late june storm. >> i find it interesting and i would have brought the warmth back for those that want it. we will do egg, from highs in the 50's to 60's to possible 90's. maybe we will not reach triple digits but it will be warm in some areas on thursday and all way through the weekend and into early next week the we will try to balance out the cool wet weather with dry hot weather. the fire danger will stay tempered for a while. on mount tamalpais, it looks rather impressive, right, with the rain which has been constant. the records to beat, in oakland and san rafael we have beaten it, san francisco is close, and live more just needed something measurable if a record and only

.02" in san jose would be a record. san francisco pulled up short for a record at .1" and oakland was .09", and san rafael set a record and three quarters of an inch in santa rosa and half moon bay a third an inch and concord .1" and fremont, the same, and livermore, nothing. the most impressive according to mount tamalpais zooming in on that, 4.09", more than 4" of rain in 12 hours from the side. the bulk of the rain is moving from sonoma toward napa and you can see it headed up 29 to the central valley. through the central part of the bay in the south bay it is quiet radar wise with a few scattered showers east of 17 that will head to south san jose, possibly, even morgan hill if they hold together. they will just be more of a

nuisance and the bulk of the wet weather if we see much in the form of scattered showers 8 be up to the north and also along the coast and the western facing slopes where the southwest winds will be lifted and create rain. if you live near the coast, expect drizzle and the further inland in walnut creek and to the south, you can see the sunshine breaking out in your neighborhood. we will go with scattered showers the afternoon and drizzle at the coast and best chance of a steady rain is in the higher elevations near the coast and in 9 north bay mountain. dry and clearing by tomorrow for all of us and warm to hot this weekend. here is what is happening, warm front rolling how bringing a steady rain and now the cold front could kickoff a scattered show or two, the last day if our showers. as we move through the morning hours, most of the rain moved off into the north bay and there you go, by the afternoon hours, the best chance of rain is going to be up had and drizzle is likely anywhere, scattered

drizzle and a few slicks are state because of the moisture but you will not be driving through ponds as you did this morning. the clouds fade away open wednesday afternoon. now, the seven-day outlook shows five- to ten-degrees warmer tomorrow, and same if thursday. look at 90's inland from thursday through monday, the low-to-mid 80's around the bay and if you want the cool weather, head to the coast, it looks like the hottest of the weather is going to stay away once again. we are going from 30 or 40 degree swing in a couple of a couple of days. >> nice to have you back, mike. you will want to take extra change with you if you are headed to starbucks because they are raising the prices 1 percent on the most popular drinks including coffees, espressos and lattes and teas. prices are the same for the brewed coffees.
