wanted to find a neutral spot and both sides are meeting across the street at caltrans headquarters. both bart and the unions want to avoid a strike that could start early tomorrow morning. >> negotiations between bart and its unions began at 3:30 p.m. there are just hours before a potential strike could strand some 400,000 bart passengers. a bart points says bart is prepared to bargain in good faith. >> we are prepared to be here all night. that's what the public expects. we want this to go down to the wire if it has to. we're hoping these conversations can continue through the evening. we don't want to drag the passengers into this. reporter: union negotiator isn't very confident the deal can be reached before the midnight deadline. >> we're very far apart. we're coming to meet because we've never given up. the district gave up on us. we were at the table for a day

and a half. a day and a half. the district never showed up during that day and a half. we're still vary for apart. >> the distance has been significant. bart workers asking for 5% pie hike each ear, and parts kolles of link increase. the union will pay a half percent toward the pension. this member says bart's offer was insulting. >> the cull offer is 1%, 1%, 1%. the additional 1% each year is based on conditions that are not only preposterous, but penalizing our members. >> talks have been stalled since thursday. this is the first formal meeting between the sides except for ten haunts of saturday. the governor reject a 60-day cooling off period, saying he wants the two sides to settle before monday morning. >> abc7 news reporter lillian kim continues team coverage and is live from the alameda ferry

terminal with a look at how the morning commute will be affected in case of a strike. reporter: added transit services like san francisco bay ferries plan to expand tomorrow but it's not nearly going to be enough. nevertheless, ferries plans to do what it can to shoulder the burden in the event of a bart strike. 20,000 seats are typically available on one of the ferries going to and from the east bay and south san francisco. tomorrow the number of seats available will double to 50,000. 11 vessels will be in operation instead of eight, and expanded hours from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. the transportation commission expects most commuters will get in the car tomorrow if there is a strike, and those people are being asked to help out. >> if you're going to be driving, please take somebody with you. please leave a little bit earlier. or perhaps leave a little bit later so we stretch the peak of the commute out.

>> breaking news out of santa cruz county. two women are dead after they and two men were swept out to sea by a wave. the men managed to grab on to rocks until the coast guard could rescue them. the victims were in their 30s. >> for the second time in two days a man died from a violent attack in antioch. at 3:00 this morning antioch police found the 54-year-old man stabbed to death inside a home on rodeo circle. the victim's name has not been released. his death is being treated as a homicide. on saturday, 42-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his head. he later died in the hospital. >> police are on the lookout for a man suspected of stabbing a woman. here's a picture of victor

dramatic cell phone video caught a hot air balloon squeezing through two overpasses on a southern california freeway. it hand last night in san diego. authorities are trying to figure out why the balloon went off course and deflated. the balloon driver put their crt between the freeway lanes just like threading a needle.no.

97, fremont. livermore, 95. san jose, blue sky. our forecast highlights, continuing to be hot through mid-week, and experience those warm evening with inland temperatures in 70s overnight. we'll get a weather pattern change on fourth of july, which is thursday, friday, and next weekend things will cool down. until then, high pressure, a bubble of hot air over the bay area. dangerous heat will stay with us, especially inland, through mid-week, and that excessive heat advisory still in effect until 7:00 tuesday evening with highs 98 to 106. the warm inning and the -- warm evening and the recollection of heat-relate evidence illness, might extend through wednesday and thursday. this is what we're talking about. tomorrow, livermore, 105. this is the trend still over 100 for tuesday and wednesday.

then it will it. this heat wave will start to ease. overnight temperatures, warm tomorrow, inland. 70s and upper 60s, fogger in the coast, and here's a look at the highs for tomorrow. we won't have as strong of an onshore wind components so temperatures will go up. mid-90s near san jose, peninsula, know 90s there. san francisco, 78. the north bay, you're 100 degrees for santa rosa, calistoga, napa, 100. and east bay, 104 to 106-degree range. it is going to be a hot one, even hotter on tuesday inland. and wednesday, and then we'll start to trend things down by the fourth of july on thursday. a little cooler. friday, saturday, sunday. temperatures get back down to where they should be this time of year. >> love it. thank you, leigh.
