improve the situation and negotiators walked away at 8:30 saying they were at an impasse over the same issues from the beginning. the wages, medical, pension and consumer safety commission is the top issue for the union workers. ken is a strike captain out here. >> a couple of years ago in south hayward a guy was beat to a bloody pull be with blood all over the inside and they had to have a crime scene team clean up the booth. they have done nothing and they don't feel safer. >> are you advised? what are your thoughts? >> there was a high probability so i am not surprised. >> when you saw the pickets, what happened? >> disappointed but i have to make adjustments.

opening, look behind me. the bus is waiting to fill up, there is not a line of people. there are several buses standing by at walnut creek ready to go. they are empty. i don't know if people know of the objection our maybe they decided to take the day off or work from home but if you need to get to the city there are free shuttles at walnut creek, ready to go. this is not an option, video of the last bart train from over night, this is right after the strike was announced and the trains were parked. commuters say they were feeling anxious when they realized this would be a strike wondering how they would get to work and some decided to grab the shuttles. this got here in the middle of the night they were so worried to get a seat the. >> i have to commute to san francisco and will change buses in downtown san francisco. it was great to have the free

shuttle. i am not sure but i hope my boss will see i am on my way. >> the stations where you can grab a shuttle: el cerrito, walnut creek, we dublin/pleasanton, and fremont. they will be available from 5:00 to 9:00 this morning and each because holds 56 people but in walnut creek there are several ready to go and empty and ready to take you to the city if you need a ride. they estimate they will be able to shultz 2,000 to 4,000 people and it depends on people and how quickly the buss can get around. >> interestingly our vice president of programming at abc7 news was one of the many people would waited for the shuttle so he will be happy to get in. casual carpooling is an alternative to cross the bay with 20 casual carpool in the east bay.

passengers are dropped off in downtown san francisco at fremont with extra stops beginning at 3:30 this afternoon. the bart strike promises to make the bay bridge toll plaze a parking lot. and now from oakland. cornell? >> we are seeing that, the commuter crush is on, bay bridge toll plaza is backing up into the maze mostly in the cash-paying lanes but we have fast track lanes, paing up, too, and folks are angry with all the lanes open including car pool lanes. i talked to caltran a short time ago and it is all hands on deck and extra toll takers have been brought in early to prepare for the crush of cars expected to come through today.

that is exactly what we are seeing because bart trains are not running. if you do not usually drive to work the doll is $6 until 10:00 a.m. and it is back to $4 until the afternoon and carpool lanes are the best option. the metering lights are on. they came on 30 minutes early and traffic reporter leyla gulen tells me this kind of backup is very unusual to had 6:00 hour. a lot of drivers are honking and expressing their anger. a driver had to get at 3:15 to make the commute from antioch. a lot stressed out drivers and drivers who are saying they have in option but to get in the car.

tracy. the drive along 580 on the westbound push is an hour. already at this hour, the top speed is 20 miles per hour over the amount pass and slightly inches up to 39 miles per hour through livermore. it is going to be an hour's drive from tracy. this accident has turned into a sig-alert. westbound 80 an injury accident slowing coming across the cartinez and that is going to be bumper to bumper and westbound 80 at willow avenue is in the clearing stages and the damage is done and now 40 minutes to head away from crockett to berkeley. first a look at walnut creek it is starting to slow down away from highway four to highway 24. now our weather and mike nicco. >> money -- i know at least we

people are gathering for the next bus. many commuters woke up an hour early to catch a bus in downtown oakland because of the bart strike. the first bus in san francisco after 5:30 and you can see it was packed with 20 more people boarding at 20th and broadway. a woman told me she prepared for the strike. >> we picked up a hotel downtown because we have one car for two of us going different direction and both rely on bart. we are working it out. ange transit is not striking allowing riders an alternative. a.c. transit will run a shuttle to the transbay terminal. we have seen people show up at the bart station not realize there was a strike and they walked over to the bus station. the next bus leaves at 6:33.

a.m. this morning which had 198 passengers on board off to the city of san francisco and when it left there were more passengers waits -- waiting. this is for south san francisco and another line on the left is all the people waiting for new ferry boat number two but ferry boat three or four. the service says they have an extra 50,000 seats available, 25,000 in each direction leaving every 45 minutes. as we said it will be an ordeal. rather be going any other way than here this morning. >> thanks, wayne. we will turn it over to leyla gulen in the traffic center. you have been checking the bay

area roads. >> we have sky 7 over this didn't a few moments ago and it is a sig-alert westbound 80 at cummings skyway so we have plenty of traffic with lanes blocked and some lanes are re-opening at this time but they are living up with 30 minutes from vallejo into el cerrito so at the hoffman split we have heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic and at willow avenue the accident is cleared. it has left the damage. if you are coming across the cartinez expect plenty of traffic. the bridge is moving along fine but if you are trying to make the drive from vallejo into crockett and toward hercules it is a mess and not what we needed. we will see what is happening from sky 7 h.d., that is a picture of berkeley toward the

maze. it looks like the drive between albany to the maze is 20 minutes and we are starting to see a huge backup along the bay bridge toll plaza and for now, we will see some good news for mike nicco. >> it will be excessively hot again and live doppler 7 hd showing a week ago we were dealing with rain and highs in the 50's and 60's where our temperatures are now in the south bay and 58 in los altos hills and everyone sells in the throw mid 60's. in the morning, 63 in the lower elevations around los gatos but the hills it is already 77 so the air, the warmer air is lurking around 500 to a thousand feet waiting for the sun to remain what the ground and it will warm rapidly today. 55 in novato and 56 in richmond

quiet. we are look at the quiet conditions, thankfully, because if it was raining like it was this time last month, we will not even go there. let's talk about emeryville, beautiful sunrise this morning. we are going to be eight to 20 degrees warmer-than-average so the excessive heat advisory continues for the coast and the bayshore lines and the north bay and interior bay and it has been extended until at least 7:00 on wednesday. from mount tamalpais this morning you can see thin haze with high clouds roaming in today and low cloud along the coast and 54 to 63 are commuting temperatures. the next 12 hours we warm to 64 at the coast by noon and 92 inland and as we head toward 4:00, 66 to 100 degrees. moving on i will show you the

making the drive in the westbound direction and bumper-to-bumper traffic because of several vehicles. closer to the hoffman split in el cerrito westbound we have an accident blocking a lane and further to the south as you continue in the east bay, southbound 880 the car pool lane is not good news on a day like today with the carpool lane blocked out at top speed at nine miles per hour. a wide view of san jose everything is grown but 101 in the northbound direction headed away from 880. from tracy to the amount pass bumper-to-bumper traffic more than an hour to get you out of tracy. at the tolls, it appears the center lanes are starting to move so we are going do find out if the metering lights are on and the cash-paying lanes are bumper-to-bumper traffic.
